The Living Room on Dumbarton Road is an absolutely beautiful shop! Even if you don't have the space…read moreor the funds for new furniture, it's worth paying a visit just to browse. A lot of shops like this get a bit funny if you're just having a look - but the lady in The Living Room was lovely and didn't mind at all. All the furniture is arranged into little "rooms", which makes the whole place feel really homely. As well as all sorts of furniture - you'll also find smaller furnishings such as vases, candles and lamps. There are some really nice gifty bits and pieces that would make great presents, and I even spied some gorgeous wooden Christmas decorations on the counter. Prices range from £10 or £20 for small furnishings and lampshades to £2000 for a sofa. Although quite a bit pricier for furniture than a certain unnamed Scandinavian superstore, the furniture in The Living Room is infinitely more individual and stylish and much, much better quality. Worth a trip - even if it's just to dream.

I agree with Katie A. in that this really is a shop to visit, even if just for a wee wander. My…read moreguy and I stopped in here a few weekends ago after a lunch date in the west end. Neither of us had ever been in before, but my guy reminded me that Jack and Victor of Still Game shot some scenes in this shop way back. Even though this shop is called The Living Room, it really caters to the whole home and depending on your style, there really is something for every room. We were in looking at bedroom sets and found one that we really liked, and put it on our list of contenders. The staff in this shop are helpful and polite, but be warned, they don't take kindly to shoplifters. Since it seems there were only two people on staff, in a pretty large shop, they have cameras and notices everywhere that CCTV is in operation. No bother, I'm sure that helps in feeling safe. Towards the back of the shop were bits and bobs of sale items, ranging from discontinued furniture to outdated candles and pillows. Everything still in really great shape, the discounted price just makes them that much sweeter. We left happy with ideas of how we want to furnish our house and even stopped by their larger store in Merchant City (which wasn't as nice as this shop) and fully plan on coming back for other decorating needs.

After traipsing around what seemed like hundreds of furniture stores trying to find a sofa we…read moreactually liked and could some how afford, Sofology (which used to be called Sofaworks) was a breath of fresh air. It's pretty big, and is quite sensibly arranged. In some stores I wasn't sure whether I'd seen everything by the time I'd left but Sofology is in no way confusing. It's just across one floor and, although the sofas are arranged in groups and in living room-style scenes, it's relatively open-plan. Wonderfully, every sofa collection is accompanied by an iPad which gives you all the details on the customisation available. So they might be displaying a two-seater in blue but you can use the iPad to see that three-seaters are available and to look at the range of fabric and hardware options. They also display all the sizing information and other helpful stuff. It took me a while to realise how helpful this was so we ended up doubling back a bit and looking at some options again. If you're shopping for a sofa then I recommend making use of the iPads right from the start. It's the most convenient way of displaying all the relevant information that I've seen. Of course, the do also have fabric books out - no tablet screen is going to be as good as a swatch. It wasn't long before we'd found something that fit all our requirements. At this point we quickly found a salesperson (apart from a "hello" at the door we'd been left to our own devices until now) who very efficiently told us everything we needed to know about the sofa. He processed our order in no time, making sure we were totally happy with everything we ere getting and now we can't wait for it to arrive. If we'd found this place first we probably wouldn't have needed to visit anywhere else.

All furniture arrived damaged and when I…read morecomplained the lady on complaints desk told me that SCS don't deal with customer complaints and told me to contact the manufacturer, and then hung up on me. It took several weeks and help from a legal team to resolve this issue. I would not recommend shopping with the SCS group.

However, I didn't feel like on the occasion we visited, I could have been confident in buying anything here. Maybe this isn't always true, but the pricing was really confusing. I think this is partly because they were in the middle of the sale. So you'd see something you'd like, it would have a huge price on it but that wouldn't be the actual price of the item - it would be a promotional price that only applied as a "multibuy" offer. It was unclear what other item you'd have to purchase to get that lower price. So, that was pretty disappointing. You don't want to see something you like and think it' in budget only to be find out that it's actually 50% more expensive than it appears to be. Furniture shopping is stressful enough without this nonsense. Then, it took us ages to get hold of a member of staff when we wanted to ask a question. To be fair, when we did they were very helpful, so I guess they get points for that. As I say, it might be better outside of sale season, but given that this branch is based on a huge complex with several other stores that all sell very similar things, it's really hard to recommend this as an option.
