Not a great experience. The am since is OK. The food however was served Luke warm except for the…read morecroquette which had obviously been deep fried briefly before being served (it had a twice fried look and taste). The serving staff didn't really know what was being served from the menu. Not once was I asked how my meal was nor did any of the staff really seem to care. Probably won't return based on this experience as the food was not only below par BUT it was expensive. The saving grace was that the Chancellor picked up half of the tab :-)

The food here is fantastic. We had the okra fries, tempura baby squid, homemade bread with truffle…read morebutter and Pickwick Pie. All were great even though neither of us like root vegetables much. The Brussels sprouts side and creamy mashed potatoes were delicious. Sauce was a little salty but went great with the pie which needed salt (probably by design). Cocktails were well made and delicious. Overall not too pricey either. We did not stay at the hotel but it looked lovely. The reason for the missing star was that our server was painfully slow and inattentive. This is not just by our American level of impatience (not proud of that but it's of course true), the locals at tables around us also complained. Bless her heart I'm not sure this is the right business for her to be in. But the eatery is a great place to stop for a bite and a drink after an Abbey Gardens stroll.

Fantastic experience. Food was perfect, but service was outstanding. it takes both to make a nice…read moreevening, and 1921 nailed. fresh menu, locally sourced included an actual Chef with actual recommendations without being asked! great food, expertly prepared and presented by staff that actually strives for top - notch customer experience. a can't miss. thank you TripAdvisor for the recommendation. shame on yelp for not even having it.

having received a kind invitation from a client for a pre Christmas meal and recommendation from my…read moreson who is a chef I contacted 1921 because of dietary requirements , I have coeliac disease and cannot have gluten, Despite spending twenty minutes on the phone with a very helpful member of staff I struggled to come up with three suitable courses, the first course I had asked for was rabbit with onions and tomatoes what arrived was a strip of what I can only describe as pate that did not taste anything like rabbit being laced with so many herbs the flavour of rabbit was lost, and for some reason the onions were pickled which I cannot have due to gluten in the vinegar ,the tomatoes were almost non existent with only half of one cherry tomato being visible. mains, ooh dear what arrived was a huge plate with food that would have fitted on a saucer,a miniscule piece of chicken. mashed potato that had the consistency of smooth peanut butter and was virtually tasteless. The brussel sprouts and bacon were nothing more than a dessert spoon sized dollop of liquidised mush, not the brussel sprouts and bacon that I had asked for, the only dessert I could have was sorbet, which consisted of three teaspoon sized portions two of which were tasteless and one having intense fruit flavour and was very pleasant . the drink I had ordered was Aspall cyder ,a favorite of mine , when I tried it I found it to be extremely dry and sharp certainly not the Aspall cyder I was used to,But this was all they had so I had to put up with it, I believe it is called harry sparrow! well what can I say not the best culinary experience . I felt quite embarrassed for the kind person paying the extremely large bill...
