I was really impressed with Benny's Tavern. Looks like a dive bar and kinda is but its a clean dive bar. Looks to have a good group of regular customers with various poker and music nights. Seems like a terrific place for locals and a great little sportsbar if in the area. Has pool tables as well. I recommend. read more

We did a stop over in Colonial Heights and this was the only place open at 8:30 pm. We were a little bit apprehensive walking in the tavern. We ended up having a very good meal. Debbie is implausibly rude and seemingly racist. She told my friend that he didn't have any money and that he was drunk. He was trying to get change to play pool. I have always found Bennys to pleasant place. I have been going there on and off since 2017. There's been some iffy times but, My last visit 2/2022 wasn't pleasant at all. I rated it 2 stars because it depends who's bartending rather or not you're going to have a good time. And that puts the place on the bottom of the list to choose from. I don't know the lady's name; unfortunately the only way I can describe her is that she was a Caucasian female, had to be 60 plus, she seemed elderly. I sat at the bar, card in hand, waiting for 20mins plus for my order to be taken. (She kept serving the people to the left and right of me) When I did ask her can I have my order taken. (Even though I was irritated, I said it calmly) She said "I'm coming." in a nasty way like I was irritating her and turned her face up in disgust. I felt indifferent after that. She then came over and asked my sister and I for ID and my sister didn't have her ID. Now, my sister got upset and told the bartender she being a racist "B" and she will take her money elsewhere. The bartender's response was disrespectful, she called my sister all kinds of names; from her gutt; with a passion, as she was walking away and I was just astonished. Like, Tell her how you really feel. I know she called her a "B" but you're the bartender, you should know how to ignore things like that when you've done no wrong. But she obvious was holding some HATE in and waited to release it when she could. Now if my sister had got upset and turned around it would've been a bigger scene. read more

I've been a resident of Colonial Heights, Va for about 11 yrs. Benny's has definitely been a staple in my life! They are like my extended family! I love Benny and his awesome staff! We moved to the area last year and have been looking for a cool spot to get our trivia fix where people don't literally just Google all the answers (so annoying). We got that and much more at Benny's! Ok, yes, the place is smoky inside -- c'est la vie, so let's put that aside for a sec. We're the kinda worst "regulars" ever... we show up once a week for trivia with their awesome hosts, have a couple of drinks, and then peace out due to early morning work... but still these guys remember us every week, and we've only been coming for a month or so. Laid-back spot with on-point music and friendly real humans inside. The owner hangs out and makes a point to know you if you show up on any mildly regular basis. If you're not a stuffy/unfriendly person, you should check it out. Have fun and wash your clothes when you get home, it's really not that bad! (We're non-smokers - we really don't mind it.) Also - Benny's will get you a free ride home if you're too toasted, so no need to worry if there are or aren't cops hanging out on the Boulevard. Don't drink and drive ever! read more

Benny's is one of those rock bars that treats customers fair....when I run a tab I never have to worry about being charged "a little extra" like many other bars.
