This place asks for 5 dollar cover charge to just walk in the door. I would avoid it at all costs.

It is spacious with lots of natural light (if you eat during the day). We ended up being one of two tables because we came at an odd time. There was only one person working front of house, Melissa, and it looked like she was bartender, hostess and server while we were there. Despite that she did a great job. She was gracious, attentive and even pulled out my chair for me. She knew about the building's history and seemed to take genuine pride. So if that is an indication of what the service is like all the time then A++. Food was decent, not mind-blowing. But I thought the quality was there. Ingredients were fresh. Prices were high end for the area but reasonable for the preparation and presentation. Food was well prepared. My only real complaint is my fried okra kept sliding out of its batter. See photos for more food info.

When we went, only the bar area was open, but there were tables in that section and we were able to sit comfortably as a family of four. Our waitress was really sweet and personable, which always makes a difference--especially when you're traveling with kids. The food was delicious. I ordered the smash burger, my husband had the salmon, and both were excellent. The kids ordered from the kids' menu--chicken tenders and a burger--and everything came with fries. We also ordered the sweet potato fries and those were a standout--definitely recommend them. Overall, it was a great stop during our trip with good food, friendly service, and a relaxed atmosphere. We really enjoyed our experience at Shirley's.

My potato smell smells burnt. The inside is so hard. I couldn't chunk it up to eat it plus, it was a very small potato compared to the last one I had from there the steak was good. The mushrooms, which were amazing the first time this time somebody added it to the seasoning and it was so hot I couldn't eat them. I don't know what it is about colonial Heights, but most of the places I have been in this town adds such a spice to their food that you can't even eat it! We're not in some foreign country where they eat nothing but spicy food!

The lady (white lady,…read moreblue shirt, blonde ponytail full figured) walked up to the hostess stand and asked how many? I told her 5 and a baby. She said ok it'll be a 20-25 minute wait. Asked me my name and phone number. She said we'll text you when your table is ready. We sit down to wait. While we are waiting a few other groups come in 2 sets of 3 and 2 sets of 5 or more. I noticed the last set of 5 got seated as well as the first set. So I went to ask her. How long is the wait. She said I told you your party had to be here before you get seated. Uh, no ma'am you did not. You asked me for my phone number and name. She then got louder and said I did tell you your party had to be here. I again repeat what I was told. My question is. If you asked me for my phone number to text when my table was ready and you have outside seating for waiting parties. Why didn't she say it and is it Longhorn policy for everyone to be inside to be seated? While i was talking to my sister still in waiting area she yelled from the hostess stand. I did tell you, you need the whole party here. My sister said you do not talk to my sister like that she wasn't talking to you. She said you can leave. We left. Mind you it was families outside waiting to be seated. I believe the lady said her party was 7 sitting outside. She was very unprofessional. Lognhorn needs to do better. It was embarrassing and made us look like Iike we were the problem i never got loud with her.

We have been bragging to some friends about this place for some time now and they wanted to give it a try. For me and the wifey I think this might have been our 4th here. Because Keystone Grill sits inside the Truck and Tractor museum there is plenty of parking. The restaurant itself is just inside the museum on the left. Go straight to the Bob's Big Boy, then turn left. :) The vibes inside are great and you can look right into the museum from the restaurant. It's a great set-up. Booths line the windows and there is a long counter/bar for seating as well. When I put Keystone Grill into my GPS it said "Closing Soon" and that I'd arrive about 10 minutes before they closed (3:00pm). So I called ahead and got my hot dog and a side salad to go. I arrived at 2:47pm and was glad I had called. My order was hot and ready to go. I took it back outside to enjoy in the car. The hot dog was BIG and definitely loaded up with chili and cheese. Chili had really good flavor too. The side salad was a nice size and had fresh ingredients. This is a fun stop and I'd recommend it to others.
