This restaurant reminds me of the types of places I used to go to with my parents and grandparents. It just brought back a sense of nostalgia. We got here right when they opened on a Sunday morning and were one of the first tables there. When we told the servers that we were visiting from the US and that Chalet came highly recommended, they took pity on us (rightfully so) and then gave us a 5 star experience. We got the chicken special that came with fries, baked potato, Cole slaw and chicken soup and you cannot forget about the gravy! I'm not a Cole slaw conossieur but it was some of the Cole slaw I've ever had. Very finely shredded and the perfect combo of tangy and sweet. The chicken was perfectly roasted and I was so sad that I was getting full off of all the homestyle sides that I couldn't eat all the chicken. But the gravy? Good god that gravy, it's been weeks and I'm still thinking about it. I'm not even a big gravy person but this was savory heavy with a kick at the end. We were very satisfied with our experience, and we received great service. They have a nice beer and cocktail variety, and several in our group enjoyed their sangria. The food was well prepared and everything came out at the same time, always a plus for a larger party. As far as the fried chicken, I found the crust to be extremely crispy but otherwise tasty. The bourbon BBQ sauce (one of the ones that contains gluten) was really strong. I do have one beef - their "side" of cole slaw came in the world's smallest dish; I got maybe 2 small forkfuls of slaw out of it, and it was gone. Bird Bar is a little off the beaten path (translation: a bit of a walk to the Metro), but I'd definitely come back on future visits to Montreal.

It's a very casual vibe and it's evident that they have been in business for a long time. Contrary to the name, there are no pool tables in the place. I had a hot dog toasté (hot dog with toasted bun and all the fixings) and we split a grande classique poutine. The fries were crispy and delicious, the cheese curds were melty, and the gravy was flavorful. And the hot dog was quite delicious too. Note that they only accept cash.
