I've had some great experiences at Bennett in the past, but my most recent visits have been beyond disappointing. I place my orders online and pick them up for dinner. Bennett opens at 5:00 for dinner and the earliest time you can select for pickup is 5:30. You even receive a confirmation email confirming when your order will be ready after the restaurant opens - usually it says just a few minutes after 5:30. My food is never ready by 5:30. The last time I went, it wasn't even busy and I sat there until 5:45. I saw other people pick up their orders and there's no way they ordered before I did. SEVEN workers stood up at the cash register and chatted while I waited. I finally got up and asked if they could give me some kind of ETA for my food. Someone went back to the kitchen and within seconds produced a bag of food. It had to have been just sitting back there because they couldn't have bagged it that fast. I'm not ordering anything elaborate - three dinners directly off their menu, no substitutions or special requests. In terms of the food, I usually get the crab cakes. They have taken a nose dive. Sometimes they're over cooked and the last 4 times they have had shell in them. Tonight my veggies had a giant stem in them. My experiences here used to be hot and cold and now it's just consistently disappointing. I am done with this place. read more

I just had the worst experience I've ever had at a restaurant. I have been a server myself on and off for many years. The bartender Brian should absolutely be fired. We complained about his lack of service and he had the audacity to confront us with an attitude and when we didn't give him feedback directly (because the manager should of addressed it after we left) he went behind bar and started slamming stuff around, told the table behind us that we complained as his voice was rising for everyone to hear. His behavior was totally disturbing and unprofessional to say the least. We couldn't even eat our meal at that point and got to go boxes. As we were leaving he confronted us again with a very smart attitude and was loud. He's been there 7 years and has become complacent. The owners need to do themselves a favor and get rid of him! read more

If you're not specifically looking for Bennett Point Grill, it's unlikely you'll stumble on it. That's a shame. After church last weekend my wife and I found it when one of our usual spots had a too-long wait. Glad we did. The menu is mostly NC and low country: fresh seafood, po' boys, and the like. We started with the pimiento cheese--great rendition of the Carolina favorite--followed by very fresh salads. Main dishes were shrimp and grits, and Dixie chicken and grits. The shrimp was nicely seasoned with plenty of shrimp and smoked sausage and just enough cheese. The chicken was equally flavorful, and not seasoned the same, so you'll want to try both. Service was very friendly and very good. The courses were staged just right and our drinks never went empty. Combine that with the quality of the food and I really don't understand why the place wasn't packed. Take the time to look them up. You won't regret it. read more

We were told that there would be a 15-20 minute wait. 45 minutes later, one of the THREE hostesses told us that they still didn't know when our table would be ready and that they only had two waiters. This was even more surprising since we had sat there for the last 45 minutes watching 3 hostesses doing the job of one person. They literally sat there fooling around and doing nothing; then when another customer actually asked them for help, all three of them were useless in answering a basic question about the menu. Very unsure why the manager of this establishment would pay three incompetent children to do the job of one person and then only have two waiters on the floor. I have eaten at this restaurant a few times now with my husband and his family, who live in the area. This is good, solid food at reasonable prices. We visited on Saturday around 6 PM and there were a lot of empty tables. However, by the time we were leaving, the restaurant was a lot more crowded. We had very good and attentive service throughout the meal. Drinks were refilled quickly and the server was friendly and laid-back. For my meal on this visit, I ordered the turkey bleu sub. I thought it was pretty good, but a little lacking in flavor. I didn't find their "special sauce" to be especially flavorful. I will say that I appreciated the different side choices. I was happy to be able to get a caesar salad as my side instead of the standard fries. On a previous visit, I remember ordering the crab cakes, and these were delicious. My husband got the fried flounder sandwich on this visit and I did try a bite. It was very tasty - the breading was light and the fish fresh. On my next visit, I will try the pan-seared shrimp and scallops - they looked very tasty on the plate of a person in our group who ordered the dish. If you are in this area of Durham, this is definitely a good place to stop for a good and reasonably priced meal! read more

This is one of those places that I really miss since moving out of the area. And I never would have known about the place if my then-boyfriend, now-husband hadn't transferred to a new office located right next door to BPG. Here's a place we try to make it back to when we return "home" for a visit. I've never had anything bad here that I can remember...Fabulous burgers, love the flounder sandwich, pastas & soups are all delish! Not to mention they serve warm bread before your meal comes with plenty of butter to keep you satisfied until the food arrives. And be sure not to skip dessert. So I went to the Bennett Pointe Grill on Friday night and it was good. I've been there several times and it is always decent. Anyway, we arrived and were seated immediately in a booth table thing. It was nice. We got our drinks right away - water for me, tea for my friend. They brought us out some break and butter - lovely. Took our orders - she got the shrimp and grits, I got the grilled salmon. It came with bacon cheddar mashed potatoes, sauteed veggies, and a black bean and corn salsa on the fish. It was cooked perfectly, everything tasted fine. The shrimp and grits - DELICIOUS (I so should have gotten that). Anyway, everything was fine - nothing was spectacular (except that one bite of grits) - salad was good, beer was cold, dinner was warm, all was good. Price point is a little high in my opinion - maybe dinner should include the salad rather than it being extra. Where they excel though is, in my opinion, was the service. I am rather low-maintenance when it comes to restaurants. I don't need someone crawling all up my tail but when my glass is empty, I'd like it filled, I'd like my salad and then my main course, I'd like to be asked if that is everything before I get my check. Given my limited time in the Durham area, I wanted to find some authentic Southern comfort food. My friend suggested Bennett Pointe Grill, so we ended up going for dinner. Upon entering, we found ourselves in a darkly lit diner with packed tables everywhere. It has a very casual atmosphere, with people talking and joking all around you. They have a fairly large selection of items on their menu, from meats to pastas to salads to sandwiches to seafood. They also start you off on complementary bread and butter, which was nice. We spilt an order of sweet potato fries, which while nothing too special, still did its job as an appetizer. The portion was generous and helped make the wait for our entrees that much less painful. I got their pan-scarred shrimp and scallops as my entree, with wild rice and vegetables. The shrimp and scallops were delicious, with a sweet, light aftertaste. The wild rice, soaked in the sauce, was consumed by me in seconds. It was that good. The steamed veggies were a bit bland, but very tender. Interestingly enough I'm not a fan of seafood, but that doesn't scare me away from this place because it has so much more to offer. I can't believe I've lived in Durham for 3 years and never tried this place until recently! Bennett Point Grille is a nice local restaurant that's a bit off the beaten path. It's the kind of place where the servers seem to have very regular clients, and it has a real community feel. We shared an order of fried mushrooms, which were awesome! My hometown is famous for its mushrooms, so I consider myself an expert, and these were some of the best fried mushrooms I've ever had. They were really crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside--perfect! I had a nice Cobb salad, too, and my friend ordered wings. I'll admit it's in a strip mall and we assumed it was going to be tiny. Nope! This place is actually large and well decorated. It was bustling on a Saturday evening. They seem to be a seafood oriented restaurant. We got two of their pastas and their wings. Everything was absolutely delicious and generously portioned. They have a rather extensive list of beers including craft and local brews. Nightly specials as well. Server was amazing as well! Don't judge a book by its cover. I wanted shrimp and grits in the south and this place popped up. This place is a local bar in a small plaza. I was surprised how busy it was. I wasn't sure if there was a bar cause it was on the other side of the restaurant when I walked in. I was pleasantly surprised when I sat at the bar how friendly people where. I ordered a couple beers and killed some time. I ordered the shrimp and grits with Cesar salad. The meal came with bread too. I really enjoyed the salad and had a couple of pieces of bread.....then waited, and waited a little longer. It was a little longer wait than I expected for the main course to show up. Finally did and everything looked good. However, the only problem was the sausage was similar to Bob Evans and it looked a little greasy. It tasted good and I was hungry. I always feel bad for waitresses/waiters when I meet up with co workers as I work at the headquarters of my company in San Diego so when I meet up with local field teams, dinners can last for hours. This particular time was no exception and we were there for at least three hours. The waitress did not seem to mind and was very attentive to refilling our drinks (much appreciated) The food was also pretty good, I had the Black Jack BBQ Pork which was very good. I recently co-hosted a baby shower at Bennett Pointe Grill, and I have to say that the service was exceptional. We were able to book well in advance to reserve a private dining room, and when we needed to change the date of the shower, they were very kind in accommodating us, and had no problem moving the date since we gave plenty of notice. They were prompt in their reminder calls, to confirm that we would be using the room on that date and time, and reserving the room did not incur an extra cost, we were only required to pay for the cost of our food/drink and tip- a rare find these days, when you can charge for just about anything!! The staff also kindly printed out customized menus for us so that we could control what items our guests could choose from, and our waitress Rosalyn(sp?) was on point with keeping our drinks filled throughout the whole shower, which lasted about three hours- I am sure she had other tables to worry about but she made sure we were taken care of. Another huge plus was the time frame- we had reserved the room from 2pm-4pm, but by 3:30 we could tell we were nowhere near done, and when I asked if they had anyone coming to use the room after us they told us not to worry about it at all, we were the only people using the room that day and we were welcome to take the time we needed to wrap up the party. Best of all, after a super long day decorating and weeks of planning, of course the last thing you want to do is tear down the shower and clean up- but again, the staff rose above and beyond. As we started to take down decorations, they stopped us and told us they'd take care of it, and they cleared up all our streamers and trash and party crap for us! I can't sing the praises of the staff at BPG enough. Thank you guys so much for making a very stressful day smooth and helping us pull off the shower! read more

I would like to give a heads up.... This is generally one of my favorite restaurants because of the varied menu options, however I have now experienced one of their evening reservations due to a large crowd and frankly am very disappointed! We arrived for a 6:00 pm birthday party reservation and experienced such a " rush" and hurried food delivery that I became very suspicious of reasoning. We were not even asked about appetizers and right away prompted for our entree orders. We stopped the server and asked if we were able to order appetizers and if we would be given ample time to receive those before our main entree would be brought, to which she responded, yes. Unfortunately meal salads were delivered before appetizers and within minutes of appetizers arriving at the table the main entree's were served. I sent my meal back to be held and warmed as it was my bday party and we were feeling severely rushed. However that did not help as my entree arrived cold when it was ultimately requested. While several of us were finishing our food, deserts were offered. Once the tickets were brought and paid we realized that the restaurant was empty and they closed at 8:00 pm on Sunday's. ((To be clear it was only 8:10.) It would have been very nice if the restaurant had explained beforehand that we were working with limited time! We might have likely chosen another option. Instead we were hurried along to a very short evening celebration. As I said, this is a restaurant that has good food and generally good service. This was an overall very disappointing experience for my birthday. read more

BP Grill is honestly one of the best (not fanciest, definitely not overpriced) restaurants you can find in the Triangle, even with the local food renaissance of recent years. I have never had a bad meal or sub-par service in all my years of dining here. If you want to just go out and be satisfied when its over without all the to do.. here is your place. I am just a regular guy but...The stars of the menu: 1. ANYTHING WITH GRITS! 2. Pasta w/ Salmon or any protein add on 3. Best Chicken Tenders & fries ever.w/ ranch (Your kids will love you more if you feed them these) 4. Burgers/ Grilled Chicken Sandwiches & Bleu Chips 5. The cakes/Pie! 6. Decent beer selection & sports on the tv if you want the separate bar side. ....Simple yet unequaled in my opinion. Do NOT forget to try the grits or I don't want to hear you whining. The diner is located in a strip mall not far from the interstate and the Hilton Hotel in Durham. We visited it while traveling in Durham a few weeks ago in November 2016. The diner is easy to find and when walking in, nicely appointed and clean. The place was quite busy for a Wednesday night but the sound is not too loud. We had the blue cheese chips as a starter, which were really good and a good portion size. Dinner was bacon cheddar chicken sandwich (grilled chicken), pasta carbonara, and shrimp po'boy. Good sized portions an good quality. The service was helpful with recommendations, very prompt and came back to see us often. They have beer options and the pricing was fair. This is a favorite in our area. We have gone there several times in the three years we've lived in Durham. I've had the Shrimp and Grits, and to be honest, it's a bit too watery and oily for my taste. I really like their seafood. I had the fried flounder with added shrimp, and it was cooked perfectly and well proportioned. The other three in my party enjoyed a delicious seafood entree as well, they have good food. This last Sunday, however, we were directed to sit in the bar area, by the back door. If you are a person who doesn't mind the smell of cigarette smoke while eating it's for you. They always have a crowd of people outside the door there who smoke and hang out, and that's fine, nothing wrong with hanging out. Every time they came through the door we got a big swoosh of cigarette smoke, even worse when they wold hold the door open to talk to each other and it's like a smoke filled bar I don't want to be in, very unpleasant. Great food, great wait staff, just don't sit in the bar area, unless of course, you don't mind the smell of cigarettes. read more

My family and I are now leaving this restaurant after having dinner. We ordered drinks, one of the drinks was wrong. A new drink was Brought out, it was extremely weak. My martini, was very good. We ordered appetizers and a salad. As we were eating, our dinner came out three minutes later.All of us had ordered fish, ironically all the fish was cold including the mashed potatoes.We told them they brought out her food within another three minutes ,the same food. The scallops were gritty,they were not washed long enough and had sand in them.On top of that, when we initially walked in there were no tables filled. They put us at a table, we found out to be ,next to the exit for the smokers. I had gone up to the front desk and told them this. As we were leaving, the manager was there and I repeated all that occurred. She said oh you should've told me. I did tell three people upfront, how was I to know who was the manager or not.
