Be Careful. -- I came home around 5:30 PM on a cold December day to no heat. The house temp was down to mid 50's. The face of my 4- year old Honeywell WiFi thermostat was black. I thought maybe the furnace has stopped providing power to the t-stat. I looked in phone book for an 24 hour emergency heating company. I called Bennett. When someone answered the phone, the first question asked was. " Are you currently one of our customers?" I said no. I should have paid more attention to this as the voice-tone made me feel uncomfortable. I gave them my phone number as was informed they would call me back. I promptly received a call back and was told someone would be out in 30-40 minutes. Technician arrived around 6:15 and began looking at furnace. He determined that the Honeywell Thermostat had failed. He said he could install a temporary T-stat to get me by until the next day. He wanted to come back and replace my 4-wire system with a 6-wire and install a new WiFi T-stat. I said no, could he just install a low cost regular T-stat. He said he had one in the truck that operated from AA batteries.(I found out the Menards carries these for about $40.00) He proceeded to install the unit. When it came time for the billing, he made a call back to the shop, must have been for pricing. He presented a bill for 45 minutes labor and one thermostat. They charged me $148.00 for the thermostat and $165.00 labor and a $35.00 trip fee. The total with tax was $357.25.Be careful of this bunch. Way overpriced. I am in the process of getting bids on a new furnace and AC unit and would never call this business for anything further. read more
