Did my google searching for photographers in Houston and contacted about a dozen. Perhaps half responded they weren't available, and half didn't respond. However, one adorable young lady in Austin (3 hours away), Julia Vie of Vivian's Muse, said she was very excited about shooting me! We exchanged several emails about the process and logistics and had an extended phone chat. My trepedation morphed into excitement and anticipation. Let's do this!! The big day! Julia shot perhaps 400 photos in an hour or so, all the while offering instruction, incredible encouragement and showing me what she had captured in her viewfinder. All with a monster camera and first class professional lighting. We shot on the couch, on the stairway, in the window, on the bed. Woah, so exhilerating! Nervousness was gone and my inner goddess had taken over. I'm not one for exaggeration but this was truly one of the best hours of my life. Back the next morning to review and select proofs. Oh no, her computer jammed up, wasn't happening. No problem in the digital age. We had more girly chat, comparing notes on all of the fun we had had the preceding day. A few days later the proofs arrived via email. I was blown away. OH MY! That cannot possibly be me. But...it is! Being a goddess, even for a short while, really gets in your head. And stays there. Who would have thought the idea of having a little fun by trying something different would turn into a life changing event? Thank you so very, very much Julia! A few months back, I logged into a Zoom call and noticed that my awesome headshots from that session didn't really look like me at all anymore. In this post-Covid lockdown world, as we might be tip-toeing slowly and carefully back to the world of in-person meetings and conferences, using an old headshot felt like a little bit of "bait and switch!" Let's face it, hair is longer, skin is still fabulous, but...I'm OLDER. Still awesome, still sassy, but I needed an update. This time I worked with the fabulous Olympia Roll (and again, why on earth would you make this investment without the professional makeup add-on specifically for the photographer?) who "got me" from the first minute. One thing I especially love is the super light touch on touchups and post-processing. These pictures look like me, not an air-brushed, over-filtered, a little too pose-y overly contrived version of me. Now I need to either write a book or run for office (or both! ha!) because she gave me photos that make me look and feel like a BOSS. Thank you!
