The main ingredient of every dish seemed to be some kind of tamarind/sugar gloop. Made us feel a bit sick. Won't be going back.

I can't really fathom how long I've been jonesing to do Indian curry in London, proper. I have more…read morethan my share of conversations about food, and this is the general American sentiment concerning dining across the pond: "Look, I'm not a fan of London's food, for the most part. It's dull, I'm kinda done with fish and chips, forget about breakfast -- blood sausage, seriously? -- yeah, in general, I don't think it's anything special, with one really big exception. Oh my goodness, the curries... I can't even begin... incredible." So people have been telling me this for the better part of 20 years, and thankfully, my sister, who's not only an incredible eater, but also a stellar cook, treated us to Hazara. In short, what a revelation. The preparation took some time -- likely because it was home cooked from scratch -- and the entrees offered a depth and spice profile I've only experienced once before, from a first-generation Indian family, a meal I had in my teens and still remember well, today. Hazara was simply an elevated take on virtually any Indian approach I've encountered in The States, and I'm missing it already. Spicy junkie (me) note: These guys don't have a sauce, or mixture, available to add heat to your dish. Rather, should you ask, the kitchen will actually mince a hot green pepper for you, on the spot, which will appropriately kick your dish up to proper New Mexican standards.

Good, but not amazing Indian food in an upscale environment in Belsize Village proper…read more My wife and came here exploring restaurants in Belsize Village with high expectations both because of prior reviews and also the general quality of Indian food in London. The meal wasn't disappointing, but it also didn't quite live up to the expectations we had. I ate the Hazara chicken curry, we had the samosa chaat to start and my wife had a lamb curry. It was all good, but nothing really stood out. Probably gets a bump for being in a local neighborhood that doesn't have tons of extra options. It was nice to see two families saying hello to each other while we were eating.

The two dishes that I can very highly recommend are the Prawn Mapas and the Makhni Dal. The only time I've ever had black dal was from Dishoom and I assumed it could never be topped. WRONG. Ok, well I'm not sure if it's better but it's still absolutely delicious. Shoot, that Makhni Dal was really so spicy and creamy and silky and jam packed full of flavours. The Prawn Mapas also. Those spices are seriously special. The yellow tadka dal was still good, but it wasn't quite hitting those notes that the other two were. :) Either way, I was pleasantly surprised by Guglee. I had never heard of them before, and I'm now a big big fan!

This is a great little place!…read more For those who have said it is the BEST Indian food around, I think that might be debatable, but it is a casual, clean place, with a modern take on Indian food. My naan came out piping hot, and it was quite fresh. The lamb curry was also good, but I've had better. All of the staff members were very friendly! Additionally, they have free wi-fi, which is a perk for foreigners like myself! I really liked the artwork on the wall. The tuk tuks, pictures of the Taj, etc - reminded me of my trip to India. Anyhow, if you're looking for a relatively inexpensive, casual, Indian place, check out Guglee!

I went with the Chicken Tikka Masala, and oh my goodness, it was absolutely bursting with flavor. I usually like my food with a good kick, so I asked for it spicy. While my personal spice tolerance is quite high (so it might not have felt super fiery to me!), the richness and depth of the spices in the dish were truly phenomenal. It wasn't just heat; it was a symphony of incredible tastes! And beyond the fantastic food, the service really knocked it out of the park. After we finished up, we were waiting outside for our ride, and one of the staff members actually came out to check on us! They wanted to make sure we were okay and even offered to help us find a taxi if we needed one. How incredibly thoughtful is that? It's those little touches that really make an experience memorable. Seriously, it was such a delightful visit from start to finish. I'm already planning my next trip back! This place is definitely a gem and I can't recommend it enough.

I met the owner who was friendly and gave great advice on the menu. As it turns out, his advice was amazing. His food is outstanding. The sauces are thick and flavorful. The spices blend together so well that the overall taste is epic. The restaurant itself is very nice, with white table cloth setting. It's quiet and right in the middle of the Belsize neighborhood. It was a short, pleasant walk to the best Indian food we had in London. So good, we went back a second night. You have to try Taherah.

And this place looked more affordable, although the other place seemed like it had more unique dishes I've not heard of before. My partner got the Prawn Patia, which was very delicious, and I got the Lamb Rogan Josh which was equally tasty. Perfect amount if (medium) spicy. The probs were a touch on the small side, compared to other curry houses but not by much. A small bottle if Cobra beer was 3 quid, which is reasonable. Plain rice and garlic naan was cheap as well, and it does not come with the entree. Poppadoms and starter does not come with the entree as well and must be ordered seperate. We were full though.. after 2 entrees, rice, and naan.
