Honestly, Oregon drivers are on another level of reckless. Tonight a car blasted through the Whole Foods parking lot doing at least 60 mph--like pedestrians don't even exist. Yesterday it was a different car, swerving right next to me twice because the driver was in some huge rush to grab a DoorDash order. And it's not just once in a while--this stuff happens constantly. People here run into you while you have the walk signal. They turn right into crosswalks without even looking. Half of them are on their phones, zoned out, or acting like basic traffic rules don't apply to them. And somehow every single one of these people has a driver's license. It's insane. It's dangerous. And it's exhausting trying to walk anywhere without almost getting hit ten times a day. You'd think the police would crack down on it, but they don't. This state has some of the worst enforcement and some of the least aware drivers I've ever seen. It feels like nobody is actually paying attention, and pedestrians are the ones stuck dealing with the consequences. read more

I've had repeated interactions with the Bend Police Department while living unhoused in this city. In my experience, many of these contacts have felt unwarranted and intrusive. Officers have approached me without clear cause, asked questions that felt more like intimidation than community policing, and at times have seemed to be monitoring my movements. As someone exercising my constitutional rights, this has been upsetting. Being homeless should not automatically make a person a suspect or a target for harassment. Everyone deserves to be treated with dignity and fairness regardless of housing status. I hope the Bend Police Department will review its practices toward unhoused residents, provide more training on constitutional rights and respectful engagement, and focus on real community safety rather than repeated contacts that feel like harassment. Harassment is a crime, and so is stalking. This police department is involved in both! read more

My husband, who has Alzheimer's, walked away from our home today while I was taking a shower. The Bend police were immediately on top of scouring the neighborhood to find him, with 30 minutes!!!!!!!superior response and we are so thankful. read more

There is an alarming level of reckless driving throughout this town. Far too many individuals on the road clearly should not be behind the wheel. Pedestrian accidents are occurring at an unacceptable rate -- people are being struck and injured because drivers are distracted and inattentive. What's even more concerning is that, in most cases, drivers face no meaningful consequences, even when their negligence results in a fatality. These tragedies are entirely preventable if motorists simply pay attention, follow traffic laws, and drive responsibly. Bend police department rarely does anything unless the driver hits someone and flees the scene. There still needs to be consequences regardless!!! Im not safe walking around bend, or biking around bend, and neither is anyone else. SAFETY OF OUR COMMUNITY SHOULD BE YOUR #1 PRIORITY! DO SOMETHING ABOUT THESE BAD DRIVERS, ITS GOTTEN WAY OUT OF HAND....speeding through school zones, turning into me when it says walk for pedestrians, not stopping for pedestrians at crosswalks, speeding through parking lots. Not all police officers are worthless . But the ones I came in contact with when. Calling for help were. They made up stories in the report defamation of character. I watched a guy have a gun held to his head and guess what. The man with the gun to his head went to jail as the others got off free no arrest. The man that had a gun to his head had a 3 year year old child and had just got back from a bbq with the in laws. Smh I will never call for help in deschutes county. I have stories. I was in a domestic violence situation 20 years ago, i was told i will go to jail with bruises bloody nose . And more stories but not the time or place. Hello, I had an occurrence with a Bend Police Officer on 8/22/19. I had been driving for over 7 hours and was 4 miles from my destination to Bend to visit my son who had recently moved here. Traffic was strong and moving quickly on the 97, and I was trying to keep up, even while pulling my trailer and not aware of my speed. I was suddenly pulled over by Officer Greg Goller where he very nicely said hello and asked if I knew how fast I was going? I responded saying no, that I just thought I was keeping up with everyone else. He told me of my speed (which was much to high in any case) and informed me that there have been many rear-end accidents in this area and that they are trying to raise awareness by slowing people down and asked me for my license. He then ran my I.D. and informed me that he was going to issue me a warning. I was so appreciative of his approach to educate me as well as give the impression that he was trying to "protect" people, support the community and do his job at the same time. He took the time also to explain a few things about the State of Oregon and how policing works compared to other states as I had come from Idaho. He concluded by encouraging me to drive safe and said goodbye and waved to me as he passed by later on his motorbike as I moved along my way. I was struck by the notion that "this is exactly what a police officer should be like, exactly how a police officer should treat people and it is his type of police effort that instills confidence, support and belief in safety officers. Had he written me the ticket, I have no doubt that I would feel the same about his customer service but i appreciate greatly that he evaluated the situation and chose to explain to me his efforts and issue a warning. I have been re-visiting this experience and telling others what a professional and impressive experience i had with Officer Goller and decided that the least i could do is notify his agency and superiors what a fine job they are doing in training their officers and what a fine officer they have in Officer Goller. Our country has been going through such a challenging time in regard to "anti-police" rhetoric, which I do not support, and I feel strongly that we need to respect and support our police officers and the rule of law. I have also experienced officers that seem angry and/or have treated me terribly for no reason whatsoever, even when giving them the respect they deserve. I know its a tough job! Let me conclude by saying Congratulations to the Bend Police Department for hopefully doing a great job training their officers and/or at a minimum, have a superb officer on the force named Greg Goller. At a bad day some random person had dose me with a bunch of LSD. I wanted around with no phone no e-cigarette begging people to help me and no one would. I ended up just kind of giving up and waiting in the shade and then then police department showed up and they were so nice they pick me up and they took me home they can tell I was in a bad spot. So I g0t pulled over for the first time ever. The officer was very respectful. I was on Colorado right past the river heading to the 97. I sneezed and slightly swirved. He just wanted to make sure I wasn't drunk. I just got off from work about 11pm the west bend subway. As some one who has been in trouble alot I am thankful that bend pd is so respectful and considerate. As soon as he recognised i was not drunk, he ran my license, talked to me a little about my former conviction, and the fact I drive from la pine to bend for work. Bunch of crooked lying bastards. Had an incident years ago on King Hezekiah in which a kid was coming through all hours of the night blasting us out with his car stereo. After the kid was warned by police on a Sunday afternoon, he came by Monday at around 1am blasting his stereo once again. I ran out of the house out to the road to make sure it was him with my bath robe around my waste. I do not wear pajamas. I was crossing the street to the other side so I could get a better look at his license plate since I wear glasses and did not have time to grab them since this kid was traveling at a high rate of speed. Kid ran a stop sign and caught me in the middle of the road. I was blinded by his lights and turned my back to the car and put my bath robe on and turned back. He revved up his car and came forward putting me on his hood. I got off his hood and he then went into reverse at a high rate of spped and hit a tree. He called the police telling them a naked man ran out and jumped on his car. I did not call the police since I did not have a license number or a description of the car. Police showed up and I went out and talked to them and explained what happened. Three officers showed up and as I was walking toward them all three shined their lights on me. That was normal routine but as I continued to talk to them, they keep the lights in my eyes. I asked them if it was necessary and put my hand over my eyes in which they then brought their lights up under my hands. Their report said I told them I jumped on this kids' car not that the kid hit me. Ivan Wilson is the kid involved that night. He later went on to ran off the road in another accident was drunk and high on drugs. He also almost OD on heroin later. Kids mother sued us for 7,500 for damages to the car. We got a lawyer who took us to town and cost us with all the expense involved over 16k thanks to a false report. Kid ended up getting two thousand dollars. read more

Very bad, reported a texting and driving incident that almost had the lady doing it knock my car into their PD, reported several counts of threats, assaults, no one would show up. They did show up to the last two, but didn't care to do shut and told me there are no laws against threatening, assaulting or murdering federal employees (US Code 18 disagrees, and may even be included in Federal Regulations), and still waiting for them to answer to a case were the officer out the life of a soldier and two children in danger, entrapment (blinding the soldier while driving so they can't see the road during a heavy rain storm in the middle of the night), harassing the soldier and knowingly providing false information to the US Government. read more

I've needed social support in the past when calling 911. I was met with officers who didn't understand that need, and instead incurred charges which where unjust. It's unfortunate to have a couple officers reflect negatively on what might be a good, community servicing police force. read more

Called police for a noise problem at 11:49 after waiting an hour and nothing done I called again. After 20 minutes passed and still nothing I called again. 2a.m. roles by my apartments shaking and the neighbors are carrying on. Absolutely no help at all. Better to take matters into your own hands when the alternative is..nothing.. Very sad not one officer could bare to make a 5 min stop within 2 hours. read more
