When my daughter was finally able to choose a specialist for her needed surgery, she chose Dr. Schipper at Anderson Orthopedics, and we could not be happier. Dr. Schipper explained all that would be needed, his staff was very friendly and helpful, and the surgery was a great success. My daughter's recovery is going well, and she is looking forward to physical therapy. We are so thankful we found Dr. Schipper and highly recommend Dr. Schipper and his staff to anyone that needs foot or ankle surgery. He is amazing! Sincerely, Dayna Klein

Eighteen months ago I began my search for a foot and ankle surgeon in the DC metro area. From a…read moreyoung age I developed severe ankle arthritis. My first ankle surgeries were performed in my teens. My ankle problems were anything but ordinary. I needed a skilled surgeon who was at the cutting edge of foot and ankle surgery. I came across some information about Dr. Oliver Schipper who practiced in Arlington and Lorton, Virginia, at the Anderson Orthopedic Clinic. I decided to make an appointment with Dr. Schipper. From the get go I explained to Dr. Schipper that I was there for a second opinion only as I had been receiving treatment from one of the top foot and ankle specialists in the DC metro area. My first appointment with Dr. Schipper was at the Arlington location. I was so impressed with his bedside manner. He was extremely personable, kind, understanding and willing to listen to my story. I soon realized I had found someone who was very well qualified to operate on my ankle. Leading up to surgery Dr. Schipper was informative and so well prepared, explaining the process of how he intended to perform the surgery. I could tell he had put a great deal of thought and wanted to make sure he was taking the most effective route in treating my unique situation. Dr. Schipper made a statement which really meant a great deal to me. He said "thank you for placing your trust in me to work on your ankle." My recovery was a breeze compared to a similar surgery I had had about 10 years earlier. I can without reservation recommend Dr. Schipper. He is a young, innovative, dynamic surgeon. Thank you to him, his assistants and office staff.

A routine surgery gone bad…read more I had three trigger finger surgeries performed by Anderson. The first one on my thumb was hugely successful and led me to have the other two fingers done some years later. Surgery was scheduled with the 'new' hand guy and performed on the right hand with no apparent complications. After removing dressing I notice the incision was not sutured so that the sides lined up resulting in a pucker in my palm and even a misalignment of the line that goes across the palm. I bright this up with my surgeon and he brushed me off saying it would 'flatten' after some time. Ok, so two weeks later I go for the left hand, same procedure. I was in the room and they were prepping me for the surgery. The doctor came in the room and injected me with the numbing solution, and I commented, "last time your assistant cleaned my whole arm with butadiene solution prior to injection." This created a bit of a stir as they scurried to clean the area after they made the injections. Surgery was performed and I went on my way. Fast forward 10 days. Recovery was going ok, although right hand very stiff but left (most recent) all of the sudden became very stiff and painful. I went to their office the next morning and from the parking lot they told me that they were too busy to see me and that only my surgeon could see me do come back tomorrow. Disappointedly I left with my swollen and very painful hand. I returned the next morning in worse shape. The surgeon didn't even get me into the exam room and told me to admit myself to the hospital. He said I had an infection in my hand and it needed to be cleaned out and I needed strong antibiotics. The hand had become quite inflamed and very painful but that was just the beginning. Surgery was very invasive adding three more incisions, rooting around and flushing around the tendons and then not stitching back up but letting the wounds heal from an open state. I met with infectious disease staff and they recommended strong antibiotics while they tried to sort out my specific infection. Two days after surgery, the surgeon visited, and performed a probing and painful examination of my hand with no gloves. Two days later I was released from the hospital with a very painful hand. I went back for follow up with the surgeon and he said give both hands time and recommend occupational therapy. 20 sessions later, I can't make a tight fist with either hand, have lost grip strength, and the tendons are so tight they lift in the palm of my hands when I do close my fists. Very uncomfortable every day. The misaligned sutures never 'flattened' out and the trigger finger surgeries were a total fail. I'd never recommend having it done to anybody. I don't think my hands will ever be the same, but Anderson got paid in full and showed no concern whatsoever after I walked out the door.

I believe they're understaffed but they have so many physical therapist I don't understand why they aren't hands on and giving their patients more time instead of passing it off to the techs.

Dr. Layfield is amazing!!…read more After having repeated issues with my knee, I found myself here on several office visits to determine what was wrong and the path to recovery. Dr. Layfield was always on time for all of our appointments. He takes his time to explain everything to you so have a clear understanding and allowing the time and space to ask any questions or concerns you may have. I never feel like my appointments are rushed or that he was not invested in my care and concerns. I do like that he takes a conservative approach to determining the issue and provided a clear path of treatment that I felt comfortable with. The in house physical therapy practice is great as well!! No one likes the vigorous structure of PT but Kellie is great and made the time bearable but most of all enjoyable, I know, right? I personally have never had an issue with the front office staff and everyone was helpful and courteous. At best if my PT was late in the evening, they may not be able to take the copay but that is not something that was make or break or could not be cared for on the next visit. No complaints here, so far so good!

Still going through this horrible situation. But I finally got this office to call my primary and…read morethe situation makes NO SENSE. This was left on my voicemail "according to that lady, she said that it's already sent to the nurse practitioner, the proposed of the referral. However, they never sent the uh the actual referral because there's no referral uh set up yet." So they sent the referrals but they didn't?? (My dr has sent it multiple times) Then the next day, this morning, my doctor calls me informing me that they were told by a Sheryl that the office doesn't take my insurance???? So now I'm back on the phone with this nightmare of an office, because HOW DOES ANY OF THIS MAKE SENSE?!?? The person I spoke to was confused and rude, cause they kept cutting me,off which seems normal for this office. Even thought I mentioned my primary has sent my referral multiple times. she asked me if I had a referral? After a bit of a wait because I'm talking to a new person every single time.I was transferred to the women who left me the message. She told me they received the referral and would give me the soonest appointment. As usually no one was interested in what I had to say. I told her I just got off the phone with my primary and that they told me their office did not take my insurance. She said "no we just need a referral"and kept with that. I had to drag her back. I said you're not understanding what I'm trying to tell you. My primary called me, told me that you no longer took my insurance. And now you're telling me you do? No apology or recognizing how insane my situation has been. She told me that they just need a referral and there is no Sheryl working in the office... It's like they have no idea why I'm so angry. Like I'm the problem. When I've wasted HOURS for the last two weeks TO GET A SIMPLE REFERRAL TO MAKE AN APPOINTMENT! You would think they'd want this information so it doesn't happen again... nope.

Dr. Ashish Shanbhag is absolutely amazing with the injections and other procedures, I.e. cervical radio frequency ablation, after more than a decade of debilitating pain, this doctor provided relief in 2014, lasted up until I was in an automobile accident few months back. Of course I came back to him to seek a diagnosis and treatment options, he provided me with a treatment plan, this includes going through the referral process for authorizations, administrative, etc. He is a fast talker, but will answer my questions and not even seem annoyed, he is a sweetheart as far as im concerned. I am actually excited to get this done so I can resume my active lifestyle that he gave back to me in 2015- I'm convinced he will do the same again!!!The office staff is wonderful and thoughtful, so friendly and helpful, busy clinic but from my experience, they are keeping it together, at least that's the feeling I got years back and again now, even though majority of the staff I don't recognize, except for the doctor and his assistant( and she is great also) please be kind to them and understanding of the workload they deal with on a daily basis, they do a fantastic job and deserve to commended for it!!!
