I've been a loyal customer of Bench Robinsons Metro East branch for close to 15 years, but it all changed on one fateful Monday in March 2018. I was having my usual hair cellophane treatment along with a footspa+pedicure. I asked my boyfriend to join me at the salon, so he did. While his hair & scalp were 'marinating' in the hairspa treatment, the Jr Stylist gave him a back massage. He moved up to the shoulders, then neck, base of the head & scalp. I thought it was odd that one moment my bf was reading a magazine, and after a few seconds his head was bowed down and he seemed in deep sleep. My eyes quickly shifted to the Jr Stylist whose thumbs seemed to be pressing far too hard on my bf's nape and head. Then all of a sudden my bf awoke and asked where the bathroom was as he felt like throwing up. He slowly got up, took 5 steps then stopped in front of a trash bin. He picked it up, and going back to the standing position from picking it up, he slowly fell. Two salon staff caught him mid-fall. I ran towards him while the 2 salon staff supporting his back) and I was aghast with what I saw - his face was ashen (grayish white) and his lips and circles under his eyes were blackish. Before I could say anything his limbs stiffened, body shook, eyes rolled back, and he wet himself. We were in a state of panic then. A million thoughts rushed through my mind, but the one that stood out was 'Oh my God, am I about to witness the love of my life die before my very eyes?' The seconds seemed forever, then he opened his eyes - his face was still pale, but lips and under eyes were no longer dark. The mall nurse took his BP - 80/60. We asked him if he knew where he was and if what had happened. He said' he just fainted, that's all'. I said I was going to run to the dept store to buy him shorts. He responded with ' no need this is just water'. Fast forward to 3 days after, the doctors ran all the tests and found nothing, then did some more probing and concluded that the seizure and fainting were because of the wrong massage at the salon. Unbelievable & scary! read more
