Do not waste your money sending your child to any of the camps here. We have had a horrible experience with both their horse camp and their fishing camp. Our children were signed up for a 3 day horse camp (12 hours total) and they spent less than 1 HOUR actually riding a horse. On the last day of camp they did not get to ride a horse at all. They had the kids doing singing and dancing activities, none of which had anything to do with horses. Their 2 day fishing camp consists of maybe 30-40 minutes of fishing maximum and they only do this on 1 day of the camp. They falsely advertise what they offer and come up with excuse after excuse as to why certain activities cannot be carried out. I will no longer recommend this camp to anyone. read more

What an amazing experience for my nine-year-old daughter, She's only rode a horse one time when she was about six years old and has been asking to ever since. We are so excited that we chose Benbrook stables for her summer camp experience. Chelsea was so welcoming and sweet and we will definitely be back next year! I'm not sure why there is quite a few negative reviews especially about the summer camp. I think the reviews that are negative are people that really haven't read the website before they booked and then there's an email after they book that also explains everything. Please read that so that you understand how the camp works! The kids are not riding all day every day, they're learning so much more being able to wash the horses. Took my 15 year old grandson to this location yesterday. My grandson has prior experience riding and caring for horses. He had the absolute time of his life riding a great horse in a pristine environment along with well cared for stables for them. In reading a few of the other reviews- The owner of this business is "being Jammed " over Yelp "In my opinion". I am a 30 yr plus retired Law Enforcement Lt from the L.A metropolitan area. Plus being the owner of a private business for 27 yrs. It is abundantly obvious that there is one person leaving negative reviews with the intent of harming this business. The owner was so spot on! If any of the allegations were true, several regulatory agencies are readily available to handle the allegations. Gee I wonder why that has not taken place. I will not ramble on. But if u look strongly at the "War & Peace" negative ratings, clearly it's one person with an axe to grind. In summation, do not hesitate to patronize this facility. They were absolutely wonderful! Shortly after my experience here, I found out my niece had a newfound love for horses. I told her I knew a GREAT place where she can ride and made a promise to take her here. Welllll, one year later, I called to make an appointment. This would be her first time riding a horse. After speaking with Chelsea, who was very informative and patient, we decided which option would be best for her (and her friend) and set the day and time. We opted for a single session riding lesson. $60 per person for a 45 min lesson. We arrived and came to the office first to register and fill out forms. I met Chelsea who was just as nice in person as she was on the phone. She fitted the girls for helmets and made sure they were the right fit. Then off we went to meet the horses. My niece rode Harry who was a big, gentle horse. Her friend rode Ruby who was younger but very well trained. Tori was their instructor and she was the coolest! It was very evident that she was extremely knowledgeable which put me at ease. She asked for the girls' names and remembered them throughout the session. She knew the horses very well including their habits and what not to do to upset them. Tori is very protective of their horses. She noticed another rider improperly handling the horse she was on and immediately went over there to guide her. After showing the girls a few instructions, we headed to the arena which was a little fenced in area off to the back side of the ranch. I wasn't able to go into the arena, but they have bleachers on the outer perimeter that were definitely in bad shape. I was able to find a place to sit and watch and of course take pics. Tori covered the basic fundamentals of riding, safety, and caring for the horses. The girls had a super fun time and can't wait to come back. They kept talking about the horses for the rest of the day which made me so happy. Tori was an excellent instructor and made the experience wonderful. Don't forget to tip your trail boss and instructors! Chelsea was welcoming and friendly. Everyone was great there. I still highly recommend this place! read more

This place is great! Came with my sister bc she wanted to go horse back riding on a trail and so we did. The guides are wonderful and make sure you feel comfortable, especially if you're a beginning. Great thing to do if you're visiting from out of town and have a couple of hours available. Cost is $70.00 a person. Kids 8 yo and older can ride. Bathrooms on site if you need to go before you start. You do need to fill out a waiver so show up a little early. read more

I premise this with two facts: 1) The review is not a reflection of the employees, because they are wonderful, good at what they do, 2) Note management's (potential/future) response to my review, it will sound very similar to the response she provides all other poor reviews, I encourage you too look her up & read how she talks about her peers in the equestrian community. I sent my daughter here for their summer camp & I genuinely adored the staff. They were friendly, to me, to the students & their horses. My daughter wanted to start taking lessons, & they are the closest equestrian center to my home (20miles). Unfortunately, because my daughter's school does not let out until 4:30 options were limited & I was told that they only offered evening classes on Thursdays with one particular instructor that I could do weekly. I signed her up and prepaid for 5 lessons. I was told she could even come a 15-25 minutes early and volunteer helping her set up. We bought all the clothing gear & first lesson went well. Second lesson... We showed up 20 mins early, my daughter in anticipation of volunteering. The minutes went on & now 5 mins into the lesson & no instructor, I called the number on the door. The staff is gone in the evenings. & there are only a few boarders on the premise with no ability to help. Molly Thomson answered. I explained the situation, she told me she would contact the instructor & get back back to me. 10 mins later and still no call back, I called her again. She asked me if I had confirmed the lesson & scolded me that I should've. I was in shock, standing outside for 35mins now & she couldn't even bother to call me back to tell me what was going on, and then to reprimand me for not verifying a lesson was happening? I told her when I signed up for the lessons in person I told the staff that I would be bring my daughter in weekly, and therefore paid for 5 lessons. I am not an employee, how would I know to verify every week unless someone told me; and more importantly should that not be their job? I am the one who paid for the lessons... I asked her if the instructor was coming and she told she was no where near the place and would not be able to provide the lesson. She said Christian, does not work for her and she keeps her own schedule. (If Christian is not an employee then Benbrook has the obligation to make parents aware of the situation and at the minimum provide them with the instructors contact information, etc.) At that point i got frustrated and I told Molly that i did not appreciate being scolded and being addressed as if we caused the problem. That she should be apologizing to us and offering to make it right. At this point we have now been there 40mins. She condescendingly told me "im sorry you did not call to verify the lesson. And sorry the person does not work for her." I thought to myself this is getting worse, but then she surprised me and asked, "how can we make it right?" I told her, maybe she could considering taking off half the price for the 6th lesson, after completing the 5 paid for to account for the gas and all the time we had wasted. Her response, "I think you should just not come back here. You're not having a good experience, so its better you take your daughter somewhere else." And hung up. I was completely shocked. My daughter was very upset & cried. Whats even worse? Molly started texting me from her cell phone. She went off on me, said things like, you need to take a xanax w/laughing emojis. I asked her to stop texting me, I even had to block her number because she wouldn't. For someone to mention Xanax so quickly, its not even in my vocabulary, no doubt there is serious issue with her stability. Before leaving I asked a boarder if Molly was the owner or if there was someone above her, she said Molly was the owner and that it did not surprise her she did that to me. Apparently Molly is the worst thing about Benbrook stables. My bank confirmed the situation and approved my dispute and got me my money back. We are now happily taking lessons with another facility. read more

I would give this place zero stars if I could. The first clue should have been that an ambulance was there when we arrived, taking another victim of this place out of there. The owner is a nasty, rude woman who doesn't take care of the animals, therefore they are salty and are not trained at all. The horse I was on, was acting up and left the other horses, taking me away from the group. The so-called employees didn't help at all and I asked to be removed from the horse and given my money back. The owner refused, insisting that the horse was behaving (it was not). Stay far away from this place, the animals are mistreated and the owner needs some training lessons of her own. Save yourself and the animals! She only accepts cash because this type of thing happens often and you are left with no recourse. Took my six year old. We did the hour around the arena. The way it's set up is you pay for the time, there's someone that sets up the horse and they just tell you to walk to the arena. Everyone was very nice and kind. However it was hard getting the horse to go on my own. Especially not having any experience. The gal that set me up just told me to pull the rope and how to hold it but not how to get the horse to move. Spent most of the time watching the horse eat grass and trying to get it to move. Would recommend bringing mosquito repellent and hiking shoes. I was told to wear tennis shoes but there's tons of fire ants in the arena. read more

I am terrified of horses. I was bucked off at 4.....over 30 years ago. I'm determined to get over my fear. When I called to book my lesson, I told him this. I said I might not get on, but I'm happy to have the experience. When I showed up for my lesson, I met with Tori. She didn't hesitate. I told her my background, she made me come over to the steps, and I climbed on. I was in a group of small children and I wasn't going to cry in front of them. I told the kids it was my first time and they told me I'd love it. So now I'm on a horse. Trying not to cry in front of children. Tori (not sure of spelling) was amazing. She made it very clear that the horse would go where I told her to. I'm the adult. Tori helped me learn to actually ride and turn and how to use my brakes. I'm so excited for my next lesson and am looking forward to getting through my fear. These folks were amazing from beginning to end. read more

She was extremely gracious and communicative! I read previous reviews mentioning her and all I have to say is people who received a rude response from her must have been rude themselves. The staff was extremely friendly and our overall experience was great but I would not recommend this location for a trail ride. We have been on several trail rides in the surrounding area that are worth $60 a person... this was not. Half of the ride was across asphalt roads and we had to cross by traffic twice. Definitely not as scenic as I believe it's advertised to be. In reply to the comment I received .... we definitely walked along a trail that was directly beside a road with traffic... several horses were walking on the actual road itself and we literally had traffic stopped twice while crossing the road. My family and I decided to go horseback riding and my uncle recommended we go to to Benbrook Stables. Prior to going, we called and made a reservation to ensure we had a spot. The rides fill up fast so I suggest calling ahead to reserve. When we arrived, we filled out a release of liability form and my cousins who are under the age of 16 were advised to wear helmets. This place is kid friendly and we were told they hold day camps for kids as well. People older than 16 didn't need one. The cost per person was $30 per person for an hour ride. Our tour guide's name was Tori. She was very helpful and taught us the basics of horse riding prior to taking us out on the trail. She also made sure we all stayed together. If one person got left behind, or was having trouble with their horse, she would help them out. (My cousin's horse kept trying to eat the whole time which was pretty hilarious! Tori helped her out with that lol.) She also was able to take pictures off our phones of all of us which was super nice of her! The ride itself is about an hour. We went during summer so much of the river was dried up but nonetheless it was a good time and still beautiful. I highly suggest hydrating beforehand and wear some clothes and shoes you don't really care for because you will get dusty. The horses are very sweet and well-trained. Daughter Wedding. Easy to do business with. Our daughters wedding was on a day with rain in the forecast. Benbrook Stables helped us develop a Plan A & B, rain or shine. The trail ride is not directly around the Benbrook lake. You can see the lake at a distance. Part of the trail ride is through a spider den. The spiders were about an inch long dark brown and huge. The guide left me and another customer behind twice. The horse kept stopping and we weren't instructed on how to make it gallop/walk. Trail ride was 40 minutes not an hour as advertised. read more

I have been to Benbrook Stables a handful of times before I decided to plan my sons 3rd birthday at their location. I spoke numerous times with Chelsea who was always pleasant and helpful until signing the contract for his party. After signing and paying the deposit of $75, it was hard to get any help, returned calls or emails. 6 weeks before the party, my 15 year old son qualified for an invitational swim meet in Midland that was the same day we were having my toddlers party. I called, checked available times for the next day, paid the $75 to move the party to the next morning and paid the total of $645 for his party. The total now paid is $795. Mere days before his party, my toddler had a terrifying accident and broke his tibia (leg). I immediately called and spoke with Molly Thompson who is the owner and let her know. I was sincere and apologetic and let her know I would provide doctor notes or whatever she needed as proof. His doctor made it clear he could not ride horses until his leg was healed. She was rude and stated immediately "I'm not giving any money back". I asked her to give us a credit for trail rides or even for a party next year. If she would credit us even half of what we paid, I would schedule his 4th birthday party there the next year. She said, "let me think about it. Give me a day or two" and hung up. Fast forward 6 days and I called, emailed, left voicemails and called again to no avail. Finally, I got a response by email not even from Molly the "owner" who I had been conversing with but Chelsea. Letting me know that since I change the event once, making it almost impossible to fill that time slot even though it was six weeks in advance and I paid the fee to move it and I canceled last minute, they wouldn't be crediting or refunding any money at all. I am appalled that this company who claims to be family oriented could be so heartless and honestly just cheap. To not even credit us half for trail rides or anything at all. I understand we canceled last minute, but again, my son broke his leg. We, unfortunately, won't be going back to Benbrook Stables for any future event or trail rides. read more

Benbrook Stables ia a nice facility. I took a close friend and her three cousins out here the day after Thanksgiving for a girl day. We were very amused going past the Parks Mall and seeing all the traffic that we were going as far away from as possible. Horses were tame and well mannered. The ride wasn't exciting but good for beginners. You wind along the pastures, cross a creek, go down another trail towards the lake, then swing around and come back. Ride was an hour for 30 bucks, cash only. I give them only four stars because our very young trail guide left a young 13 year old lass with a stubborn grumpy horse alone in the back of our group. They should have had someone else back there to tell her what to do. Essentially, since I've ridden a bit, I wound up working and helping others with simple ways to control their horses. I had wanted to enjoy my ride, not work for free. They should have had someone else from the staff bringing up the rear. I suspect it was a larger than average ride due to the holiday but still. Not cool. They should have broken up the group into a smaller number from 20 horses down to ten. read more

I used this facility as an overnight stable ahead of a large show in the Fort Worth area. I initially had high hopes as communication via email seemed most helpful and pictures on the website looked promising. I ended up rather disappointed, however. I will say that I was not in the best of states after over 12 hours on the road when I arrived, but my frustration just mounted when the owner would not come up to the barn, but I rather had to track her down twice, first to find out where to put my horses, and then to pay her for the stay. I was also never asked for proof of negative Coggins or a health certificate which I found alarming if they regularly allow people to use the barn for overnighting. The stalls were far from what I was expecting- bars were missing such that in many of the stalls, horses could reach their entire heads and necks through to each other. I had to use my leg wraps to create a barrier to prevent one of my horses from reaching out of his stall. Several of the stalls had large gaps under the door that gave me nightmares of caught feet and broken legs. Two of the horses in my group ended up with significant cuts- nothing life threatening, but not what you want right before a big show either. I would not advise serious horse people used to show quality barns to use this facility. read more

I called to schedule an appointment on a Wednesday for Saturday morning at 11. I arrived at 10:40, as I was instructed to arrive 15 minutes early and to bring extra money to tip the guide if I chose to. Upon arrival I was asked if I was there for a trail ride, to which I replied "yes". She asked for my name as she's looking at her clip board. I gave her my name and then she asked for my phone number...still scrolling through the list. She asked "Did I have you down for 11?". I replied "yes". She walked away a couple of times and then returned to say that I wasn't on her list. I showed her the call log with the business phone number, which was a 4 min. call. I also made it a point to tell her that I'm a nurse who works nights, and I stayed up after working 12 hours to be there. Not only that, but I drove 30 min. to get there. Once again she walked away and returned saying that she had spoken to the owner and there were no horses available. I can't help but to think this was an issue of race. It was obvious that my name was on the list as I never mentioned I was there for a trail ride or that I was scheduled for 11. What kind of business doesn't try to accommodate a customer for their mistake? What is the point of calling to make an appointment if the owner can conveniently not find your name on the list? The lack of professionalism and lack of consideration for someone's else's time is unreal. Not sure if it would even matter, but if you book an appointment make sure you get some kind of confirmation. Also beware that they use "discretion" on who can utilize their services. Trail guide was nice. Only complaint is that the place is cash only. Also, the trail was a little trashed -- from my understanding they share it with USACE and I don't think it's the stable's responsibility for upkeep but I think if someone could clean it up it'd make the ride more enjoyable. read more

My daughter loved spring break camp at Benbrook stables. Of course it helped that the weather was glorious; I was thrilled that she got to spend her mornings outdoors, around horses and other kids. They got to ride twice, learned about horses and grooming, played games and did arts and crafts. I loved that the registration was so easy. You call and give them your child's name and don't pay until the day she goes. They are a little relaxed in their supervision of drop off and pick up but everything about this place is pretty relaxed, including the horses. The staff couldn't be nicer. read more

Disappointing experience. I purchased 5 riding lessons for my daughter for Christmas, as she was very excited to learn more about horses and riding. At $60+ for 45 minutes I expected safety, experienced and professional teachers, some organization, and courteous staff. We received none of these. I called repeatedly trying to schedule the sessions, and with questions, and my calls were rarely returned. There were different people weekly, with obviously little experience working with kids, and twice these "riding lessons" involved the students washing and brushing the horses and not even mounting them. I can see making this caring for horses part of a longer camp experience, but a 45 minute "riding" lesson - no. Luckily we found a much better run stable just down the road. Please do yourself a favor, and stay away from Benbrook, it is not professionally or safely run. We did not even use our 5 sessions, after I saw one of the random teenage teachers yelling at a little girl who obviously had NO idea what she was doing to try to get her to make her horse move. read more

I couldn't really give a good review of this place, since I didn't go, because of deceptive (incomplete) advertising. I received their summer camp flyer in my child's school folder, and no where does it gives an expiration date on registration for summer camp. Then I call to setup a day for my kids to go and they told me it would be an extra $20 for my two children. I told them that there is no where on their flyer does it tell me that and if it was I would have done it last week when I got the flyer. They just told me it was all over their website. What BS. There is space on the flyer for that little bit of information why not just put it on there. I would give them a second chance maybe in the future I did talk to the owner with the hope to resolve the issue with by possible waiving the fee, before I wrote the review. She took it as more of a threat then a chance to resolve the issue, and said she would rather not have my family come. I am sorry that it had to come to that, because it really does look like a great place, and have read really good reviews. On the advertisement it says nothing about registration or having to go to a website for more information. I really can understand their side of it but, even though I was calm I think they thought I was using the bad review as way to force them. Hopefully they review this and pay more attention to their advertising in the future. read more

This place was extremely unorganized. We had scheduled a ride for 3- got there late due to traffic but the group we were supposed to ride with was running late as it is. So we thought great! It all worked out. We were rushed onto our horses- barely given any direction how to ride (we were first timers). I got a particularly bad tempered horse for a first timer- not their fault I know and I ended up switching horses with the guide tour. The guide tour was great actually. We were charged for an hour of riding even though we may have ridden for a total of 30 minutes at most. 100 dollars for two people for 30 minutes??? Overpriced and when we went to ask why we were charged for an hours worth of riding they said because we were late we cut into our own time??? But they were running late as it is! Very disappointed with this facility. I went with my three daughters, one was on a horse that was throwing his head around and once she was in tears the guide decided to lead her. She was pretty shook up. Then my 14 year old daughter was on a horse that would not go no matter what she did. The guide continued to yell instructions non of which worked and she never came to the back where we were to help. She ended up leaving us and yelled if you don't come on I am going to get in trouble. That is not my problem, she should have been assisting my daughter. I had to stay with my daughter she can't be left on a trail next to a busy road. My other two daughters went on with the guide and I stayed back. I called the facility and someone had to come and guide us back. They offered to take us out and or let us have a lesson, but that was not what we were looking for after a bad experience we just wanted to be done. My daughters horse had to then be led back because again it would not go. This did not work out and was definitely stressful. I kindly asked for a refund for 2 of the 4 rides since we didn't not get far and came back, they REFUSED! The owner I believe it was, refused a refund. We were left on a trail and they refused to give me my money back. I would not recommend this facility to anyone unless you are a confident experienced rider. I am now seeing all the negative comments and have to say the owners attitude is exactly what I am seeing in several reviews. The young girls were nice and they tried but we need mature adults out with children and non experienced riders. This was a very bad experience and if I can save one family or group the trouble than this post was worth it. Look elsewhere. read more

The Trails are decent and the horses are somewhat alright, but my main concern is the staff. The staff looks drained, tried and overworked. Their morale looks low and they seem very on edge. There wasn't much leadership from the trail bosses they were kind of silent and we just kind of went along. But overall an enjoyable time. Do not pay in Cash! Horses were on a trail ride at the time we paid to have them for my son's party. They showed up 20 minutes late. The stables did not give them water or rest in between the party and trailride. One of the horses collapsed with a little girl on top of it during our party. The Cantina BBQ was filthy and the propane tank was empty. The female owner double booked our party, threatened not to give us our hayride (which I had already paid for), and threatened me with physical violence. I have filed a formal complaint with the better business buereau and would advise anyone not to use this place. read more
