Well now that things are back to normal, it is not the case anymore. I've been there three time so far since the spring. The first time was for coffee. The place was pretty empty, I ordered a cappuccino. It took a fair amount of time to get it. Ok, I give it to you that it's not the kind of coffee that you immediately pour in a cup, but that are some limit. The second time I went, I wanted a beer, I said so to hostess, I was seated and given the drink menu. When the server finally came to take my order, she informed me that they couldn't alcohol alone. That I had to eat. Why wasn't I informed of that when I walked in? It would have been easier instead of arguing with the waitress. Last Sunday, I was back. I wanted to have some sort of breakfast. I walked inside not wanting to sit on the patio. It took over 15 minutes to have the hostess come to me. I was finally sit and again, I had to wait for a waitress for a period that is more than what is really required. She asked me if I wanted to start with something to drink. I said yes, gave her my order for a cappuccino and she disappeared. About 20 minutes later, she comes back with my coffee and to take my order. I give her my order and 30 minutes after giving my order, I still haven't received it. By that time, my coffee was done so I left money on the table for the coffee and I left. I would gave her the benefit of the doubt thinking that she is new. But this was the end of the lunch time and this is the same type of service I received on prior visits. In my book, they are done.

Oh the ham was so good, big pieces and wonderfully textured. We each added a poached egg, because why not. Potatoes and a small fruit cup also on the plate. A maple butter for the fruit was absolutely amazing, but no way to eat all of it and I felt bad for the wastage of something so delicious. Would return yo try a grilled cheese sandwich, of which there are so many to choose from and seemed a hot item coming out of the kitchen. Service had zero flaws and was quick and efficient. Coffee, crêpes & service were very good. However they don't have ice for glasses of water! The fruit salad that comes with the crêpes is canned when I would much prefer fresh, and it contains papaya, which at first I thought was odd but it did taste good. I was a little disappointed but I was thinking about crêpes and fresh fruit with a maple syrup & cream sauce l'd had a few times at Cochon Dingue, a restaurant in Sillery, Quebec City. Their crêpes come with lots of fresh fruit and are much more delicate as well. I've just checked their current menu and they have switched the sauce for a raspberry coulis, which sounds interesting. Anyway, those crêpes cost at least twice as much and it's necessary to have a reservation to be sure of getting any! And of course it's quite a long drive form Sherbrooke! I'm going to try to mix a little coffee cream with some of the maple syrup at Chez Charlie when I go later this week and see how I like it. I do want to point out that the coffee at Charlie's, as the person who took me there calls it, is very very much better than one would expect from a small neighbourhood restaurant.
