Great open kitchen. The filet mignon and stuffed potatoes were enjoyable. The shrimp with corn…read morerisotto was also tasty. The seating arrangement is less than ideal as I was elbowed a few times during dinner. I have never had calamari with pesto, but it too was delicious. The textures were interesting. We did not enjoy the spicy ceviche. There was something off about the dish. Don't miss out on their Brigadeiro.

They had strict control over the gate and only allowed people who were ordering food to come in. They were also really restrictive of the bathroom (one must have a table), which for ladies was through the kitchen into the inside fancier air conditioned dining area. We easily got a table for four and ordered two pizzas: Córdoba in medium (6 slices) and pepperoni in small (4 fat slices). The first one was actually pretty decent with onion, ham and tons of mozzarella but I did find a hair in it, which was a little gross. The pepperoni was great but edible. This place is good for drinking; so like a night out or a carnaval bloco is perfect. The greasy food eases the processing of the alcohol. Alcohol was chopp of Stella and very limited other beverages (refridgerantes). They had some hard alcohol but wasn't listed on the menu, so you'll just have to ask. The set up for the blocos was perfect. They had gates to keep all the drunk mess out and the tables were perfect people watching and admiring all the terrific costumes for carnaval.

Restaurants in Rio are expensive, but if you get to know your way you can find excellent food in…read morethe best places at reasonable price. Some of the best restaurants in Ipanema and Leblon will offer good deals at lunchtime. At Alessandro & Federico (either in Ipanema or in leblon, where I had my lunch today), you can find a 3-course gourmet lunch menu for less than 20 dollars. From Monday to Friday 12pm-4pm, the menu offers at least 20 dishes that can be combined as start, main course and desert to provide an amazing food experience. The only problem is that is always difficult to choose among the delicious temptations. Today I decided for the delicious smoked beef Carpaccio as my start, an amazingly done homemade Gorgonzola Nhoque as main course ( I can't resist nhoques!) and my dessert was a lemon pie to die for. The quality of the food has lot to do with the 5-star classification. But they are not just because of the food. The atmosphere and the location are very inviting and costumers add a special note to everything. Just outside one of the most charming shopping malls (the Rio Design) and in the heart of Leblon, the restaurant is surrounded by "carioquices" (the "carioca way of life). Here you will find old time costumers and new guests, groups of professionals enjoying lunchtime break and tourist enjoying...well everything, all adding a distinctive flavor to the ambience. Service is very attentive and beverage selections include almost everything, from exotic juices and cocktails to interesting fusions of caipirinhas. It is a must in your visit to Rio.

For dinner on a Saturday night the story is a little different. It wasn't terribly crowded when we first came in. We were seated right away and given menus but it took awhile to get our order in so when a waiter came by for our drink order we were ready. We ordered a kiwi caipirinha and a suco juice. We also ordered a Portuguese pizza with ham, cheese, artichoke, egg which was very good, it just took forever. For dessert we tried the pastries filled with ice cream and smothered in chocolate. The pastry portion was disappointing but the chocolate was delicious. We had a hard time flagging down a waiter for the bill and it took at least 20 minutes to get that taken care of. I expect better service from a place like this. We returned a week later to try out the Leblon Art special which was a small but nicely presented crusted white fish with a side of quinoa, tomato and mushroom but really wasn't priced that great for a special dish. I ordered an appetizer of mixed bruschetta which didn't come until my dinner mates had nearly both finished their main meals. Again, disappointing service.
