Kind and knowledgeable teachers and a great location! When we called the studio to get lessons for our son who loves loves loves music at such a young age, he started playing at 3, they were willing to give it a try and we are so thankful. He loves drums and guitar. It was a great fit for our family. Mr. John is so kind and wants to share his love of music with his students. Our son loves to rock out with his teachers and they are so encouraging and meet at his level. The office staff is so friendly and accommodating. We are thankful to have found this studio and highly recommend it for all ages! read more

Wonderful kind and talented music teachers. I highly recommend this location! I'm a beginner in playing the ukulele and the entire staff really made me feel at home. Thank you so much for such a fun experience:)) read more

I'm very grateful to live walking distance to this studio! The staff that run the shop are very professional and easy to work with on scheduling lessons. I travel pretty frequently and they have been able to accommodate my lesson plan to fit my dynamic schedule with out any hassles! I have also worked with the owner who took the time to learn about me and my goals to best match me with his instructors! I have had the pleasure of learning electric guitar from Kompee who knows the importance of keeping music and practice fun and free flowing especially in the entry stages, and Andrew who has a structured approach to give a broad exposure to the instrument from lineage technique and theory! The studios ability to adapt to social distancing requirements due to Covid19 and continue to provide quality lessons via Zoom is a true testament to their dedication to keep the music alive! I can't say enough good things about this team! read more

They are good people who approach pedagogy with delight for the student. Theory and technique are taught in a way that honors where the student is coming is from. All the teachers, especially John, the owner, is a palpably passionate guide of music and a wonderful student of the people who learn from him. My teenager loves going to BMS. read more

Absolutely fantastic place to learn any instrument. My kid has been going here for a couple months now and has so much fun she is double majoring. Couldn't recommend Belmont Music Studio more! Everyone from the owner to staff and teachers is top notch and they clearly love what they do. They work well with all levels (our ASD son is seven-years-old playing beginning piano but they have advanced students as well), pull the best out of everyone, and make it fun! We started lessons mid-COVID and can attest they are doing everything right in that regard, requiring masks, sanitizing instruments, and pivoting to Zoom lessons when needed. Really excited to see all our guy will accomplish with BMS and his awesome teacher, Kompee, especially when the world opens up again! Well done. read more

Great staff! Fantastic location and offers lots of lessons for all levels of players. You'll learn a lot at a pace you'll enjoy.

My daughters started taking violin lessons year a few years ago and their instructor, Mr. Dan was fantastic. He was patient and really taught them what they needed to know, proper technique, etc. Everyone at Belmont Music Studio really cares about their students and are overall really nice people. I would definitely recommend them! read more

Knowledgeable, inclusive, and positive instructors! I highly recommend this music studio! I am an adult beginner guitar player and I was slowly learning chords and songs with YouTube tutorials before I decided to give Belmont Music Studio a try. I am so glad I made this decision! I took lessons with John, learning bossa nova music. The tips and the simple exercises he recommended helped me transition chords much more smoothly and faster. Furthermore, the cadence and the timing on when to switch from chord to chord and the simple embellishments on different chords made a big difference in allowing the songs to come to life! These details and personalized instructions are definitely not available on YouTube! Noticing my own progress and hearing the melodies come to life is incredibly motivating. I'm glad I found Belmont Music Studio! read more

Great experience. I was looking for entertainment for a private soiree. I live near the BMS so I gave the owner, John a call. He invited me to bring in a flyer to post to see if there was any interest. The next day, I received a call from him telling me that he found a duo for the party. Gage (a current instructor at BMS) and Luca were fun, well mannered and just right for the evening. I would be very comfortable recommending them. They also played quite a long while for us (twice the contracted time) which was much appreciated. Let's face it. Music can turn a party into a memorable moment, and they did that for us. Cheers! I work as a music professional and came to the Belmont Music Studio for a high level of classical music instruction. John the owner is a great guitar teacher. He is patient and kind while teaching. He really understands how give the best training possible on guitar. Thank you John ! read more

I've been a Belmont Music Studio student for the past 18 months. Myself and a friend signed up for semi-private acoustic guitar lessons with essentially zero music experience and not a lick of natural talent. We left our very first lesson with a song to take home and practice. And since then our instructor, John, who also happens to be the owner, has kept us interested, challenged and encouraged with each lesson and new song. Despite it being difficult at first to understand how to strum the guitar or learn the basic chord shapes, we found that over time we could actually play several songs. And now, 18 months later, we are venturing on stage with John's band. So if ever a cliche were appropriate, it's now: "If I can do it, anyone can!" Or maybe I should say: "If John can teach me to play a guitar, he can teach anyone to play!" read more

I have been taking guitar lessons at Belmont Music Studio for over two years now, and I cannot say enough about what a great place this is. I am nearly 50 years old. I had wanted to learn to play guitar since I was a teenager, but I just never got around to it. Once I decided to do something about it, I started searching for a studio that would be the right fit--and I found it in Belmont Music Studio. Even before I started taking lessons, I sent them an inquiry through their website, and the owner, John, called me personally to answer my questions. That sort of personal touch and kindness are the building blocks of this music studio, and I have seen these qualities in everyone who works there, from the receptionist to the various instructors. John has been my primary instructor throughout my time at Belmont Music Studio, but I have worked with several other instructors from time to time. All of them have been knowledgeable, patient, and kind. I have also been delighted by the broad range of students--from ages 6 to 60 and beyond--along with the diverse range of instruction available, from voice to guitar to piano to drums to stringed instruments--even accordion and ukulele! They also organize showcases at local venues throughout the year to give students the chance to perform publicly and show what they've been learning. They recently added recording to their list of services. I have taken advantage of this service to record an original song I co-wrote with John, and it has been amazing to watch that song grow from an idea on paper to a fully realized, multi-track recording--all with the same spirit of joy and encouragement that have marked every other experience I have had at the studio. Everyone here--students and instructors--seems to be happy because this music studio is dedicated to supporting and encouraging the love of music and the joy of expression in a positive environment. If you are looking for a place for you and/or your children to explore an interest in music, I highly recommend that you give Belmont Music Studio a try. You'll be glad you did! read more

Our nine year old daughter started acoustic guitar lessons here with Gage about three months ago and has progressed beautifully, what is even better than progress though, is the love for music he has fostered in her. She has grown so much and has begun exploring different styles of music, she practices every day - voluntarily - and is just completely in love with learning to play. She counts down the days between lessons and has started asking us to add a second lesson to her schedule. Its a beautiful process to watch and we couldn't do it without them. read more

This is a studio that caters to music lovers of all ages. Set in the heart of Belmont Shore, it's unique location makes this the ultimate and pleasant experience. Students of all ages with interests in various instruments can expect the best in instruction. I took a percussion lesson with John, (the owner), and was very impressed with his teaching style. I've met a few of the other instructors, and all seem very dedicated to their music and passion to teach. I recommend this place to any musician I meet, and am happy to have this in the Belmont Shore Community! read more

I came to Belmont Music Studios a couple months ago with almost no previous musical training. I always wanted to play the electric guitar but never got around to it until one day, I saw the tribute to Albert King during his induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame on TV last year. After that, I was determined to learn blues guitar though I regretted the fact that I would be starting relatively late in life, thinking that one had to start this sort of thing when very young. But I started taking private lessons with Big Harmonica Bob and John Capito and am starting from square one learning the scales and basic guitar technique. Bob and John make it fun to start with the basics as they quickly started to have me applying the basics to playing music and encouraging me to not just memorize notes and rifts but to be able to feel the music and improvise in order to truly play blues music. On top of that, the studio has been encouraging me to play with an experienced blues band at the studio which is the fastest way to truly learn to play electric guitar. I always leave the sessions feeling like I improved a lot and appreciate that John and Bob are always patient with me making me look forward to each new lesson. I believe that in a year or two, I'll be good enough to play with the band in front of an audience! read more

I love this place. My instructor Nick is great. He is flexible, patient, and has really helped my playing. I totally look forward to my lessons every week, and Nick makes it fun while motivating me at the same time. The owner (John) and his girls are very friendly as well. Thanks you guys! read more

If you want to learn music come here! Remember when John gave me guitar lessons! Such a great guitarist and not a bad singer as well, all the staff there is great and kind along with the owner (John), I miss coming to play and jam and learn new things every other day! Definitely an experience I miss, if I had the money I would still be going and most likely be a guitar prodigy. I will come back and get more lessons from you, but anyways, if you want some of the best musicians in long beach to teach you, whether it be vocals, drums, guitar, piano, cello, harmonica etc, check it out! You won't be disappointed, I promise you that. read more

My wife & I have been taking Mandolin (her) and Mandola (me) lessons here for about a year now and yesterday after another stellar lesson it occurred to me that we don't post positive reviews as much as unhappy ones and this place is so far above the bar that I thought I should let people know. If you are looking for a place to take lessons, this is it. Our lessons are with John and we not only get great lessons together as a couple but John makes them fun as well. Amazing musician, he can pick up ANY instrument and play it, but genuinely enjoyable and nice as well. We look forward to our lessons each week. Add to that the second story comfortable homey laid back unpretentious studio and the location on 2nd street in Belmont Shores overlooking the street with great breezes and wonderful food smells in the summer and you couldn't ask for a better experience. Each week after our lesson we walk to a different restaurant on 2nd street and enjoy relaxing with great food as a late lunch. The location completely adds to the overall experience and we make a full relaxing afternoon of it each time. Soooooo: John A+ Music A+ Instructions A+ Location A+ Studio Vibe A+ I can't imagine it could be any better. read more

My daughter has been taking piano lessons at Belmont Music Studio for about ten months. Last Saturday was her second recital. Considering the short time she has been taking lessons, I am absolutely amazed at how well she plays. Without taking anything away from my daughter, I have to give credit to Alissa who has been an awesome instructor. My daughter absolutely loves her and the whole group at Belmont Music Studio. I heartily recommend them. read more

We had good lessons here. I paused them due to scheduling conflicts. I had just been billed for the next month. Studio told me don't worry about. I could get a refund or they would just keep it on file for when we came back. We ended up being relocated. I called for a refund and they claimed we missed these lessons and that they are non refundable. I had a conversation with them in person and that was not what I was told. Small amount of money but really just the principle of it. They have no reason to keep it. read more
