This is a school but overall I enjoyed my visit. A friend and I had an appointment for a pedicure and a hair cut. An instructor is available to the student if they have questions and to check the work of the student. The pedicure was fine but like another reviewer said my cuticles needed attention and really didn't get any! They do look nice. The young lady that cut my hair was very meticulous so the cut it took quite a while, but looked really nice when she was none. Her instructor was good and seemed to make learning fun. read more

I went in for a spa pedicure and was very disappointed. The nail tech was a sweet person, but the pedicure wasn't good. Polish was clumped in places with pieces of fuzz stuck in it, nails were rough (not filed well). She seemed in a hurry to finish the appt. Will go elsewhere next time. read more

I didn't get called back until 10 minutes after my appointment was supposed to start. The nail tech was nice but only been there a month and didn't even ask which color I wanted. She also forgot to remove any callus during the spa pedicure which is the only reason I got a spa pedicure. The front desk lady was also rude when I tried to apply a coupon. I decided Im not going back to Bellus Academy again. The person that checked me out after my appt did not seem nice at all and seemed very rude to the person that did my hair and color. 2nd-I had to pay for water....seriously.... 3rd-I think the students need to be trained in every color and pass successfully before being able to graduate. I wanted purple hair and my hair ended up being a bluish color. Thankfully it is hard to see and thankfully she did not put a lot in. I am going to have to wait for a bit to have my hair grow out and have my hair completely redone. It ended up too short and my layers ended up being just choppy. I am again afraid to have my hair done over all. My hair looks nothing like the picture I showed. 4th-the lady that did my hair was really nice. She was patient and I was able to be honest with her. She did try. 5th-going forward....No...I will not be returning as this place no longer offers massages either. Im pretty disappointed and although they did offer me to come back...they need to understand that you need to get it right the first time. Sometimes it takes time to do hair there. I ended up staying until like 130 in the afternoon. My hair appt. started at 945. I am a single mom and just dont have the time. Even if you are not a single parent there is no time to really go back and have mistakes fixed, big or small. I went to Bellus today for the first time to get a classic pedicure. The person did not cut my toe nails, my cuticles, or scrub my feet. She filed my nails very poorly ( they are very rough), soaked my feet, and pushed back my cuticles. She also only half pained my little toe and painted about half of my cuticles. Also, even though it says they are supervised, a teacher never even came into the nail area the entire time we were there. I guess you get what you pay for, but I'd rather pay a little more and get an actual pedicure, not my nails painted in a sloop manner. read more

Totally a great place to go and get your hair locks taken care of. The girls are friendly & nice; not standoffish like some regular salons I've been to over the years. New to town and a friend told me she had her haircut here. I have "my girl" in another town but did want to check out facials etc. Got a wild hair and decided I need some lashes. Just left the salon and am basically crying in my car. I sat in the chair for 6 hours for yellow hair 2in shorter than I asked for. Showed her a picture of my hair 4 months ago to replicate and I look nothing like it. I had past shoulder hair I wanted to go back to a long bob, she cut my hair so uneven that one side was a whole inch shorter than I wanted and so much had to be chopped off on the other. I also had to get it dyed twice because she missed spots and the instructor had her do it again. I went to Bellus Academy for the first time today. I got the Pumpkin Chemical Peel. I have had other chemical peels before but they are super duper mild and didn't do much so I had high hopes that this one would be better and it was! Montana gave me a lovely facial. She was thorough and careful in her screening and very personable. The pumpkin chemical peel smelled lovely and I left feeling like my skin looked great. So, first of all, I would like to say that I really enjoy getting my eyebrows waxed here, as well as back polishes and facials and manicures. I usually don't really have any issues I would complain about regarding any of the students. My comment today has to do with the lack of space or quality of the set-up pertaining to eyebrow waxing. Everytime I come get my eyebrows waxed, I'm placed in a chair that leans back onto the top of a hair station area where the back of my head rests on a neck or face pillow. It's not easy to predict how long it will take to fix a clients eyebrows and even though I am pretty decent shape, it is extremely uncomfortable to sit in that position for more than 5 minutes. Due to that lack of a set-up, as a customer, it feels like eyebrow waxing is the lowest on the totem pole when it comes to services. I wish they could or would put us in the wax room, if available, or one of the facial or skin areas where we xan feel like quality customers laying in a comfortable position for our service. I am so skeptic about getting higlights since I have bad experience when it come to salon haircolor. My friend told me to try Bellus they charge almost 70% less than my usual hair salon where I go just to get haircuts. I showed Cailyn the color I want and I was suprised that my hair didn't get fried plus the color that i asked come out more than i expect. Cailyn did exceptional job and has awesome costumer service but after few days I noticed that my gray is showing more.. So i called to asked if they can fix it the receptionist said since the treatment was a full foil I might end up paying for the full price to get my gray covered. When I got to bellus to Redo Crystal touch up the gray and blended the color perfectly with out frying my hair... definitely going to come back... read more

Every time I have gone there, the person doing my hair has ALWAYS messed something up. For example, the last time I went was last month and I specifically asked for them to dye my hair blue-black. Instead, they put red in the mixture so now I have red-black hair. Plus, it took 3 HOURS. I had my hair dyed for the first time at Bellus. It looked absolutely wonderful when it was finished, but the color lasted less than a month before it faded. I followed all of the directions I was given. I purchased an affordable color-safe shampoo (that all of my friends with brightly colored hair use and say works great and makes the color last months), washed my hair only once a week, and in cold water. However, even after following those instructions, my hair color had almost completely faded away after 3 washes. Normally I wouldn't think too much of it. Everyone makes mistakes right? It is a school after all. The website specifically says that chemical hair treatments can get free re-dos if satisfaction is not met. However, when I went in to negotiate, the educator I spoke to blamed me for using a commercial brand color-safe shampoo and refused to fix the problem. I was not informed that if I did not purchase a $40 salon brand shampoo that my hair would not last the month. I am incredibly disappointed in the customer service. If you want to dye your hair, I wouldn't suggest going to Bellus. read more

Had a manicure, was decent but not great. Like other reviewers said, very little to no cuticle work, no cleaning under the nails. I don't think this is the technician's fault; if she wasn't trained in it, then she wouldn't know how to do that essential part of a professional manicure. Filing and shaping were fine. Lots of creamy stuff on my hands and nails, so they are soft. The scrub took a whole 30 seconds for both hands, the massage was tentative, maybe she wasn't properly trained in that, either. I understand that this is a beauty school, but the students are about to graduate. Sadly, the bar doesn't seem to be set very high. If Bellus is indeed "the Harvard of Beauty Schools" as one of their promotional materials states, then the beauty industry is in trouble! read more

I had a 12:30 pm appointment for an eyebrow wax during my lunch break. i come in on time, and i'm asked to go sit in the waiting area.... 15 minutes later after watching the girls stand around and chat with each other, and no sign of them coming to get me anytime soon, I walked out. I told the girl at the front desk to cancel my appointment ( which should have been nearly completed by now anyway) and all she said was "ok". She didn't care to ask why or if there was anything she could do just "ok". Well Ok, I won't give you my business. I have been to hair schools all over from here to the east coast, and I have never encountered one to have such an unprofessional atmosphere. In this school compared to the other in Manhattan, the teachers are always around helping the students. Nice enough staff, and the girl who did my nails did a great job on the massage and hand mask portion of the manicure. However beyond that it was the worst manicure I had ever received she did not push back my cuticles or remove dead skin, and the. The polish was done so poorly that you could see my nail underneath she also missed the entire sides on most of my nails. Then the pedicure she did better on the paint here but forgot to file my toe nails. I proceeded to go home and 10 hours later went to bed and woke up and my nails were completely ruined due to them still being tacky. They were nice enough to let me come back in for free and redo the manicure but it was equally as bad and I want my money back. read more

I came here to get my highlights touched up. The student that did my highlights was extremely slow but I also understand she's just a student so I let that slide. She also would not talk to me at all. Then, I felt she was very sloppy about her application of lightener and then just carelessly wrapping it in foil instead of doing folding it over like you're supposed to do. The supervising licensed professional came and looked and was fine with what she did. What bothered me the most is that after that, she glazed my hair over with joico magenta (the worst staining direct dye I've ever use) and she got it on my face, ears, and neck and wouldn't come off. She didn't seem to really care she just said "maybe it will wash off at home." The stains didn't come off for several days. Bottom line....I paid almost $100 for half assed work. I could have gone to a professional salon and paid less and had a better experience. read more
