I would strongly discourage anyone from sending their child to Sunbrook Academy. I apologize for…read morethe long review but want other parents to be warned and understand our experience so that they can make an informed decision about where they send their children, especially infants. While our son only attended the school for a total of 8 hours, it has been nothing but less than favorable interactions from the initial drop off. When my husband and I arrived to drop our son off, the assistant director was on what sounded like a personal telephone call discussing another parent complaining about her. After waiting there for 5 minutes, she got off the phone, and did not know who we were or why we were there. We explained it was our son's first day and we were there to drop off. She walked us to our son's classroom where we met his teacher. Walking into the room, there was a single teacher getting bottles ready while 5 infants sat on the other side of the gate area, several of which were whining/crying. Most of the lights were off and the room is crowded and dark. The teacher said hello to me and my husband and asked me about our son's feeding/sleeping routine. We asked if we could help set him up in the room, which they allowed. At no point during this interaction did anyone say hello or welcome our son. We ultimately left him in the room playing with toys while the teacher continued to get the other children their food. Not once did we see her, or anyone, acknowledge our son before leaving. It was so discomforting that both my husband and I considered walking back into the room and taking our son home right then. I reported this to the director that morning around 10:00am. She apologized for the experience, explained it was an off morning and that she would talk with the assistant director as well as the teacher. When we picked up our son at 11:30am, he was exhausted, and had clearly been crying a lot. Upon our son's return to school, the second drop off was better. The following week, our son attended his third and final day at school. When I returned to pick up my son, the school director, Michelle, was also in the room and the teacher was holding my son sleeping. They informed me that my son had hurt himself while crawling, resulting in a bloody lip and scratched nose. On my car ride home, I called the school and asked to speak with Michelle director about what had occurred so that I could understand better. Beth, the assistant director, explained that Michelle was on a tour so I asked that she give me a call back after the tour. After two days and five telephone calls/voicemails, I finally was able to get in touch with the school director. At no point did anyone return my phone call or call to see why my son was absent after an incident at the school. The incident itself was not an issue, as I know babies will get hurt as they learn to crawl and walk but it was how the school handled things following the incident that was the problem. Sunbrook Academy advertises itself as a safe and nurturing place for your baby to receive loving care and learning experiences. The Infant Care Program is committed to making the first transition away from home natural and easy for both child and parent. Our experience was anything but that. After several weeks of back and forth with the regional director or Cadence, I was finally able to review the video of the incident involving my son. It was as described but the whole ordeal left me very disappointed in the school and how they care for children. I unfortunately have heard more horror stories about this school over the last few weeks and had I known any of this prior to enrolling our son, I would never have let him attend this school.

My child has been in these angels care for two years. I am a single father, work a blue collar job as a plumber and my child gets more than just "adequate care". She receives nurturing, love, attention and education. Quite frankly, i need a dose of that nurturing and love every now and then. I can come in dressed for a meeting or grizzled and unshaven from a rough week in the field(leave muddy boots in the car) and i am treated with the same level of care. Its not "mr wood", its mike and i prefer it that way. This is child CARE, not boot camp. I previously had her at another AMAZING facility@ the Goddard School, but the price was nearly double and she receives the sane small class size, they do homework with her and play with nifty tech, cant imagine better care. Chris is awesome- every month we have cool activities at night, game night, a Sadie hawkins dance, the fall festival, trunk or treat(complete with haunted house) and most recently the holiday show(teachers had a bit in it too!) Im grateful she was much more concerned with the children in her care than impressing a potential employee...if you cant wait five minutes at the door as a security measure, you don't have the patience for kiddos.

They are very involved with their students, and have all kinds of activities! A few weeks back they had a fall festival and a drive in movie where they even made little box cars for the kids to sit in. They just had Trunk or treat and that was a blast and my kids loved it! They are even having a thanksgiving feast! Mrs. Jennifer is my sons Infant teacher, she is so awesome! River is always a happy boy when I pick him up and they always have something to write on his daily sheet, letting you know what he did that day and how he was acting and how he ate. I love being able to keep up with that! My Step son has also just started Crimson and Mrs. Ruby is his teacher. After 2 days of him being at Crimson, he came home saying yes mam! Which of course I try to remind him to say but he likes to tune us out like any 2 year old! He gets so excited when we walk into the school and the first thing he asks in the morning is if he gets to see Ruby today. When I pick him up he is always so excited, he loves to show me around his class room and show me what he did that day. So I would day Jaxx also gives Crimson a thumbs up!!! The school also has themes that every class participates in this month is medieval times, and they have already started decorating with the kids crafts and pictures around the school and halls. I love it! I honestly can not say enough good things about this school/ teachers/ and management! This is a wonderful place to be!

The owners and front office are amazing - their heart and soul is this place and the kids and you can tell. The curriculum is great and she has learned so much ...and potty training was a breeze! This place is a godsend for us working parents who had a hard time putting our firstborn in daycare. But now our daughter always unbuckles her car seat as fast as she can as soon as we pull into school. She really looks forward to going. They are great at keeping parents involved and in the loop (even during this crazy covid time) and they send plenty of pictures of the kids during the day. What's even more amazing, they have implemented such great covid protocols that my daughter hasn't even had a cold during this time. At a daycare!?! Their safety procedures are working! We tried another daycare before this one, and we are so glad we switched - our kid has been much happier here. It feels like a second home.

When she didn't eat certain things, the chef made her favorite food so she would be more comfortable or they gave her an alternative to make sure she had something to eat. I never worry about her being taken care of while she's at school because of how personable each staff member is at the school, from the director to the cleaning staff. I would definitely recommend this school to anyone looking for an amazing school to send their kids to. -N. Wells

This center has terrible leadership as previously mentioned. Obviously Susan Luma refuses to accept…read moreorganic reviews - that she is now soliciting "5 star reviews" on the exact day I make the public aware. So Let's speak more WITH Proof since Julia (on google) said any negative reviews are "lies". The (School Aged) children mentioned that Janette (Assistant Director) is "mean" and "yells at us" frequently. My family only attended for 3 weeks, and my eldest dreaded going. The experience was too new to have such a negative effect - but it did. Our eldest son (8 years old) was at his previous facility for four years, but since we were seeking a smaller facility for our 3 year old, we thought it would be a great idea to move them both together. That was the best thing we could have done because the immediate red flags begin to arise when told during pick-up regarding my 8 year old by Janette the first week for us to "speak with him about 'hugging' his little brother" & requested that he "stops babying him" in an attempt to comfort him when crying. Janette further went on to say that "[I] cannot believe what [my eldest child] says because he is a liar." 1. He is barely there (ONLY Monday's & Wednesday's - detail below). 2. Although 99% of the Staff are ex-employees of my eldest son's previous facility [Facility name redacted] - only Janette spent time with him for a very short time. Not long enough to make such a bold statement. Attempting to keep my cool, I wanted to investigate further how she reached that conclusion. Once questioned, she immediately back tracked and mentioned one incident where our Then 6.5 year old told his Best-Friend to hit his little sister - and the little boy did it. Realizing that doesn't fit the description of a "liar", she followed-up by saying "well, maybe not a liar. But I will definitely say he is a 'Follower'" As if that was better. To blatantly say that to a parent was jaw dropping. I reiterated to Janette that I WILL NOT tell my children to stop comforting each other, as long as they are not interfering disturbing others and on task. That is absurd, and quiet eye-brow raising. As far as why my eldest son was ONLY present 2 out of 5 days, that was the beginning of knowing Susan's communicational skills were subpar. During my two hour talk with Janette BEFORE enrollment and moving my eldest child from his stable facility - I asked if they would be able to pick him up from his Charter school as many facilities in the area do not. She said she would need to speak with Susan. Susan called me the next day and asked what days I need, as she cannot do all five days. I said ok, and "would definitely get him on Fridays since I don't have any afternoon classes. I REALLY need transportation for Mondays and Wednesdays since I have a 5 hour gap and then another class at 3:30pm. His dismissal time is 2:45pm. And on Tuesdays & Thursdays I have a 10am class" - No follow-up questions but she said "Ok. I got it. We can make it work" And we ended the call. My children started on Monday, April 8th, and that evening during pick-up I asked Janette, "Hey, are y'all picking [my child] up tomorrow?" She responded, "Oh. That's between you and Susan." and put her hands up. I was confused because she's been the liaison thus far. [E-mails attached below] Within one day, Susan said she already had "other scheduled commitments". Then, less than 1 week enrolled - they decided to "no longer provide after school care". Last line drawn was when I saw they were fraudulently billing for four days instead of two for my eldest child. I understood 1 possible mishap, but all three weeks when you started off (and made clear) the second day not being available? There is no way. When brought to Susan's attention about that and them not returning - she immediately (within 30 minutes) locked me out of the ProCare App. Good thing I took Screenshots :) Very unprofessional, immature, and passive-aggressive. Interesting how there is 10+ new positive reviews in ONE night from people who do NOT *currently* attend after I posted my organic review. I've never knew of an organic review to be made targeting to discredit a strangers. Again, bad business & the owner Susan is pathetic. Glad I listened to my children and used my spirit of discernment. The 100% Google reviews are solicited by the owner. I've been informed by current parent/family to confirm. Susan's professionalism is shabby, deceptive, and manipulative. She needs REAL help. Apparently other families (who aren't reviewers) had similar experience. Very unfortunate that she has people who will continue to deceive others on her behalf.

I am a firm believer in "A team is as good as its leader", and this center is a perfect example of poor leadership. We intentionally chose this center because of the 100% good reviews. However, many of the families below are no longer there and the center has been open less than one year. Very telling. All of the staff (with the exception of Kayla - who works in the Behavioral Health field) are highly inexperienced. We only lasted three weeks (too long) before I removed my children (8 & 3 years old). After my initial tour, I had an intentional conversation with Assistant Director, Janette, for about two hours regarding my 3 year old *current* phase/behavior (throwing tantrums) and his prior class dynamics (a very large class of 21+ students) who never had a chance to get acclimated since the teacher was overwhelmed with class size. Hence, we wanted our child in a smaller class to work on these behaviors and receive proper attention. I explained in grave detail that he is extremely independent (and if he fails to do something himself he will throw a temper tantrum). I gave detailed de-escalation techniques that have worked in the past and present, and mentioned that I am open to them trying anything they felt would have a positive outcome. She agreed, shared her confidence level and reassured me the center was well staffed with experienced teachers. That was false. Everyday the first week, I was met at the door without a proper greeting and a simple "We need to talk..." Between Susan (owner) and Janette (Assistant) I was scolded daily for approximately 30+ minutes about my 'disobedient' child. It happened so frequently that I dreaded taking or picking my child up so I had my husband intercept him if I had a long day. I became disillusioned early on. Often mentioned what he did "wrong" so much that by the second week I had to ask them "What did he do 'right' today?" Susan chuckled and Janette struggled to think of 1-2 things (although he had a "good" day) Since I received photos on the portal of him completing task/activities - I should be met with the same enthusiasm as when he did something wrong. The beginning of week two, Susan (owner) made some harsh accusations without merit about my 3 year old asking, "Does he not understand? [she] don't think he understands anything very well. He doesn't talk back to [her]" I was completely taken aback and disgusted. Instead of stopping there, she continued on to say "he reminds [her] of one of her After-School students who has an IEP". Not only is she NOT a psychiatrist - she was out of line to allude to another current child. For our first suspension, it was said he was "disrespectful". The "teacher" explained that my child repeatedly "slammed the door" on another child and she told him to "Stop" and he replied "'No!' very harshly." I spent the next 10 minutes informing her that she "is the adult", and should have intervened in 'Real Time'. There is no way you should remain stagnant long enough to have dialogue with a THREE YEAR OLD waiting for them to stop. Over the next few days, Susan informed me that another child (without incident) was "scared" of my child and "hides under the table" and that she would have to suspend him for "having temper tantrums" "being a disturbance" "being defiant to caregivers" called him "aggressive" and "a bully" and that he "cannot say 'No!' to staff." When I made mention that I was very transparent BEFORE enrollment, her response was "you spoke to Janette. Not me." NO ACCOUNTABILITY. Also, my 3 year old had EVERYTHING from his cubby in his hands (blanket, socks, shoes, and cup) struggling to meet me at the door when I entered BEFORE telling me she was suspending him instead of waiting for me. SMH The facility may LOOK nice, but I see why the enrollment is low and the longevity of families do not last. DEFINITELY Proceed at your OWN risk!! Edit: Susan is definitely nuts. Review her Google forced "5 star" reviews. All recent ones were solicited on the same day to discredit this organic one. There are more reviews in ONE night than there have been children within the past month. The math isn't adding up. Many of the reviews are from family and friends. Deceptive practices in childcare are wicked.
