Super tasty quality food, I noticed that on the menu it even tells you which farm the meat came from, or where the ice cream was made etc. The Greek Lamb and the Gammon are both brilliant. The portions are huge and I'm always left with enough food for another meal but save room for the Holly Bush sundae because you wont ever have a such a selection of tasty locally made ice cream :) The prices are great too, last time I went it was around 30quid for the 2 of us.

We were incredibly pleased with how lovely the place is. Great outdoor dining area, and incredibly cosy inside. The staff were incredibly courteous, and the food was just unbelievably good. I'll admit, when I first ordered, I did think that they were a little expensive. However, it turns out that was because I was expecting the food to be of a lower standard. What they brought out to us was worth every penny. This is a fantastic little place, a hidden gem. Worth driving over an hour to go to, seriously.

We are unsure as to why you did not see either of us as one of us is always downstairs. On both dates stated we were front of house. Whilst I understand we cannot please everybody we have a large number of satisfied repeat customers who eat here 3-4 times a week, week in week out. As a result of feedback given we no longer take bookings and in reference to table service it does clearly state on 2 different boards that customers are to order at the bar. Please rest assure we take all feedback as constructive regardless of how negative a review is written. Also in regards to no beer on the 24th Dec this is totally incorrect as we had Hobgoblin our guest beer on and banks mild, the only cask not on was banks bitter. Thank you for feedback

As time went on we decided that we would like to stay and have dinner here but indoors as it was getting cold. There were 14 of us and they managed to fit us into the restaurant area on the proviso we ordered quickly before the 6:30pm booking arrived and one table had to vacate by 8pm. The staff were great and we did not feel that we were being rushed even though some people had starters. A lot of us picked from the specials board and the food came out devine and the service was outstanding. The place was busy as it was the jazz/fringe festival weekend so the clientelle was of all ages (a bit annoying having babies/kids screaming thoughout the meal) including elderly who came in through the fire door for easy access. I would definitely recommend this place which is also dog friendly. This place is soo good that Seasick Steve was playing there that evening and eating his dinner in the pub part as we left.

The patriarch was running the bar when I was about, and the conversation was pleasant and warm and the beer was cold. The multiple fireplaces, exposed beams and leather couches gave me a sense that besides eating, it would be a great place to pass some time with a friend or in thought. Update: 27/11/14…read more Given that it was a Wednesday and no good weather the place was nearly full. The point of the update is that two colleagues and me went to use the vouchers from previous visits. I held 9 vouchers. 6 vouchers gives £12 of the bill. No problem. I mentioned that the other 3 expired 30/11/14. Not another problem, swapped for 3 that expire November 2015. Plus 2 more for the meals that had been paid for.... So, 5 new vouchers.... That's service..... and guarantees my return. 27/5/14 OK. They get their star back. Wife loved the place. The kids enjoyed their food too. Service was good. Had a slight problem getting to the place by taxi, as the driver didn't have the post code. I tried to ring the restaurant on the number they rang me back on earlier in the day. No answer. Eventually got to the place. BUT - IS THEIR PHONE FOR OUTGOING CALLS ONLY? OTHERWISE, ANSWER THE FLIPPING PHONE. This has been my favorite restaurant as we travel through the Cotswolds. It's also an inn with…read moreseven en-suite rooms. They source as much food as possible from the local area. They even have a raised bed garden behind the inn. The inn is in a stunningly beautiful building in the stunningly beautiful village of Upper Oddington, east of Stowe on the Wold. We had a 7:00 pm reservation and were seated immediately in the period dining room. The patrons consisted of local residents at the bar, inn guests and other travelers. The dining room was very clean. The wait staff was very attentive, sharpely dressed and very polite. Norman, the owner, explained the difference between cask and keg beers and allowed me sample several ales and ciders. I selected the cask drawn amber ale from North Cotswold Brewery. It had excellent flavour and a clean finish. Norman also checked on our meal several times. He was very engaging and fun to talk with. Next we ordered dinner. My wife had the ribeye steak with peppercorn sauce, chips, sautéed mushroom and onion rings. The steak was prepared exactly as ordered. The peppercorn sauce was so good she used it on her chips also. The mushroom had excellent flavour and complimented the steak and peppercorn sauce. She had a 1/2 pint of Thatchers Golden Cider, which was also very good. I ordered the special, crispy pork belly with a sweet patato purée, fondant potatoes and roasted new carrots. Everything was excellent and complimented each other. We finished the evening with coffee and the sticky toffee pudding. It was moist, flavourful, drizzled with a caramel sauce and accompanied by a dollop of excellent vanilla ice cream. We didn't need it but finished the whole thing. My wife said it's the best dessert she has ever had. We had an excellent meal and a wonderful time in a lovely setting. People from Stowe, Bourton on the Water, Chipping Camden and even Cheltenham need to get out there. I would go every week if I didn't live 3,000 miles away.

Gourmet desserts. Salmon encruste was excellent as was the whole Sole. Tried a standard pub dish, beef and mushroom pie and it was heavenly homemade with a delicate crust. Plus the owner is an oenophile, so there's a very nice wine list including an extensive list of wines by the glass. Friendly staff. What an unexpected treat and a great blend of traditional and new. They serve wonderfully prepared food in a restaurant/pub that has a friendly atmosphere, good quality real cask ales and a high regard to customer service. If you've been after the return of the great British pub with well cooked food - this is the place for you. All of the meat comes from local butcher, Martin Thomas of Pattingham and is cooked to perfection on site by the chef and owner, Caroline Haddon. The wines offer a nice selection of both new and old world and are easy to drink and good value for money. Highly recommended.
