TLDR: St. Matthew's Preschool & Kindergarten has been an absolute dream come true. Period…read more As my littles became more mobile, I quickly realized they needed more socialization but after going to the library, the park, a different library, back to the park again over and over and over every week... I'll be honest, I was exhausted. Time to look into preschool. I made a checklist of all... the... things... to ask. Cameras? Covid precautions and protocol? Student/teacher ratio? License and accreditation? Discipline policy? Curriculum? Immunization policy? Communication method? Safety policy and protocol? And so on and so on. Yep, I was *that* mom. I know. I know. I knnnoooowww. ‍ I spent hours looking at websites. On nice days, I drove by centers or schools during operating hours to see if the kids outside were playing AND being watched, as well as how many staff were present. I'll stop now because I'm mortified that I did that but my tiny hurricanes are my EVERYTHING. St. Matthews wasn't even on my radar because I lived over an hour away. But when I learned some teachers have been there for 20+ years, the program is small but mighty and I immediately felt comfortable, like *this* was what I was waiting for... without even touring or dissecting the website oorrr canvassing the building, I asked for my three year old to be put on the waitlist. When a spot opened up, he was so excited annnd then I realized I didn't even know how much it cost. ‍ I was SHOCKED (and grateful) at how affordable it is. The adjustment for my son going from being my sidekick to "away" was a little difficult but it did not last long and I credit that to Ms. Deja and Ms. Priyanka. They are AMAZING. Ms. Deja gave me some tips and tricks to help smooth the transition and it worked perfectly and quickly. Ms. Dalex even called to let me know that he was doing great after one super teary drop off. I swore she was calling me to pick him up LOL and I so appreciated the communication. When they started to work on writing their names, Ms. Deja knew that my son could already do that (humble brag ) and took the initiative to help him work on his handwriting, writing in the lines and lowercase and capital letters. She did not have to do that but the fact that she did speaks volumes. Things are going so well that my two year old was recently enrolled. Ms. Robin and Ms. Bijal are beyond patient and the communication is timely and impeccable. My daughter is not yet potty trained so I was hesitant to put her into a program but Ms. Robin shared the daily schedule with me (which includes changing/potty times) and we have had ZERO issues with diaper rash, being wet when picked up, soiled clothes or anything. There is chapel but it is not required. There are different events like Thanksgiving lunch and breakfast with Santa as well as some really creative fundraisers like the Pumpkin sale and Art Auction. There are even after school activities available. From someone who claimed to never EVER allow my children to be in a childcare setting until they could articulate to me the who, what, where, when, how and why of their day (did I mention I was that mom?) believe me when I say I wish I would have gotten them in sooner.

Not wheelchair accessible either with no cameras was also a red flag. They have a problem keeping staff around, I noticed months ago and I was told during my visit that a senior instructor was leaving. I dont blame the staff because of managements spurious sense of care. No need for you all to lure parents in to visit your little house school with false promises and covert discriminatory behavior once they leave because they didnt pass your projecting manipulative test. If you dont like the look and skin colors of the intellectual parents you cannot manipulate, surely you couldn't genuinely care for their offspring. Be careful not to leave your children around people so miserable they refuse to provide or heat up food for a 17 month old enrolled at their "school" with a tuition. This is optional childcare before grade school and these are the type of people that make you want to keep your kid home schooled.

At 4 years of age my son's degree of concentration, ability to problem solve, love and understanding of nature and level of creativity are far beyond my expectations. I know with these skills he will have an outstanding foundation to grow from. My 1 year old is also greatly benefiting from this environment, at 15 months she has shown me how capable even a toddler can be. She feeds herself independently, can drink from a cup, is working on dressing herself, "helps" me with chores and takes great pride in showing me what she can do. The teachers or "guides" are all wonderful and truly care about your children. I strongly recommend this school to anyone.

My review is LONG but WORTH the read I promise!…read more I've had the opportunity of my son attending Primrose since he was about 2 1/2 years old and during the peak of the pandemic. Like everyone during those uncertain times, I had to make the decision of transitioning him from our in home nanny to school so he would not fall behind with his social skills. We had come from a "placeholder" school and it was time to find him a school home. From my first interaction and tour with the school, Ms. Yang told me everything about the program. I loved how thorough their policies and procedures were. The school appeared to be large, clean, fresh and new! The staff wore masks and required you to wear them when entering the building as well while I was on my tour so ultimately making the decision came a bit easier. As with most parents - you value the safety of your child. So many horror stories online and on the news about kids being mistreated by trusted staff. So I want to point out something that will be very reassuring - Tanisha and her wonderful administrative team take pride in caring for each child as if they were their own! You will get to know each and every one of them and learn the "culture" of your Primrose school. Even with my picky preferences with classrooms and teachers (LOL) they were always able to accommodate me or meet me in the middle. I did notice some reviews were unfavorable... One of the 1 star reviews was a parent I hadn't seen in a while. As parents, we like to think of our children as angles but most times it's not always the case! In her case, I must say her child was one of those children! And I love that Primrose has a standard and sticks to it! As for the mentioning of them not being equipped to handle Kids with disabilities, I dont think this is a fair judgement. So many children today have them. I'm an advocate for free help offered by the state and insurance and so many parents out of laziness most times refuse to get it! This leaves parents like myself who don't have a child with behavioral problems or disabilities at a disadvantage! Along with the teachers and staff! It takes a village to raise a child and they most certainly do their best within their legal realm of monitoring to make sure all children are treated fairly. So understand with all education - it's a partnership! As long as you are aware of that going into ANY school - your outcome should always be favorable. Now the good stuff! For new parents searching here are some perks: Pre-k is private! They wear uniforms in pre-k! (Loved this look for the kiddos) Breakfast is provided for a small weekly fee Lunch is provided and is included in tuition They offer weekly tuition options! Their curriculum is wonderful! Their sign in/sign out and app are so seamless and user friendly! they have parent/teacher meetings etc! They have an open door policy and the owner is hands on! Now the cons which weren't many; Location - The traffic to get to this location took me about 90 mins a day for 2 round trips and I live less than 5 miles away. And it's pretty tough getting out of the schools parking lot onto the traffic... But my son's safety was the uttermost important so I made the sacrifice as long as I could! Personal values - Sometimes as families our personal, religious and moral values don't always align with companies and that's okay! So we made the tough decision to leave Primrose as we noticed this shift. Again - these are my personal pros and cons and they do not take away from the quality of the school which they most definitely earn their 5 star reviews! Any educator who dedicated their lives to care for children especially our precious little people deserves all kinds of awards! Please take time and try Primrose out for yourselves! They were good to me and my family and I would most likely return under the right circumstances (and relocation LOL)

However, after discovering that staff had slapped my child on the hand and bringing this to their attention, everything changed. Instead of taking accountability, they chose to remove my son from the program. I removed my original review and am posting this updated one because parents deserve to know the truth. It is beyond unacceptable that any form of abuse is tolerated in a daycare setting. And instead of making things right, they also kept my full week's payment without issuing a refund -- which is nothing short of theft. As a Black mother and an educated woman, I will not be silenced, intimidated, or "talked down" to with empty words. If necessary, I will take legal action. Parents need to understand what kind of environment this is, and I cannot in good conscience recommend this daycare to anyone. Thankfully, by the grace of God, I have since found a 24-hour daycare in the area with fair rates, professional staff, and a nurturing atmosphere where both children and parents are treated with genuine respect. Bottom line: Grayson Academy is not the safe, trustworthy place they claim to be. Parents, please be cautious
