The owner sold me on expectations (i.e., ceiling fans, baseboards, oven, doors, glass shower, everything would be clean). I asked if there was a preference for having someone home during the clean and was told they would rather clean while you're out which was fine. I had tons of things to do. Nonetheless, I couldn't wait to book the services!!! Initially, I was told she didn't have any openings for today. She later returned and said someone could come out to clean on the day that I requested. Oh yea, I forgot to mention that I live in new construction, it's just my daughter and I, and we've only been in the place a year and a half. It's not filthy at all. We honestly could've performed the deep cleaning ourselves and guess what?! This is exactly how it looked when I returned home. I'm beyond disappointed. The owner was very polite and did offer to come out and correct the issue but my trust in what would be done without me being present again went completely out of the window. After several exchanges asking for a partial refund I was sent the following message which I just couldn't accept: "I understand. Unfortunately because I did have a cleaner there and had to pay for the labor I'm unable to comp this clean. Like I said, I'd be happy to come clean it personally, even on a date closer to when you'll be home. I sincerely apologize." My response, "Can you pay the labor and return the remainder?" The refund wasn't even half of what I paid. Needless to say, I'm still on the search for a cleaning company who delivers as promised. I learned a very valuable lesson - Just get up and do it yourself if you have the time, energy, and resources. In this instance, it's okay to be picky. Try out Lilac Cleaning for yourself. We were quoted 3.5 hours for a move-out clean in an empty house, but after only 1.5 hours they said it would take 6 hours. At that point, two cleaners had only completed two bathroom sinks and part of a tub. They also refused to complete some agreed-upon tasks without a clear reason. We ultimately asked them to leave. I needed someone to do a move out clean for me cause moving stresses me out and the last thing I want to do is clean. I found Karen on Craigslist and thought to give her a try. I believe she charged about $60 to clean my two bedroom townhouse from head to bottom. I was impressed by the quality of her work. She left no stone unturned and did an absolutely fantastic job of turning the dog hair infested house to something ready to be rented to the next tenant. She did an equally impressive job the second time around and didn't even charge extra for making the drive from Columbus to Auburn. I thought about Karen recently as I'm about to move (hopefully for the last time in a very very long time!). I've used a few house cleaners since I've moved to Knoxville, paid at least twice what Karen charged me with far less impressive results. I guess I'll be stuck with paying another Knoxville cleaner a lot more money for a lot less work.
