So I got permanent brows and eyeliner applied just before New Years. My Christmas present from the hubs. I found a great offer on Groupon for Bella Permanent Makeup that had good reviews. Before buying the Groupon, I sent an email to the owner asking if she would honor the price if I bypassed Groupon and went directly thru her. She said she would be glad to honor the coupon price.
So I get my brows and liner done. $250, plus a $30 tip. All was good. I was told to come back in 4-6 weeks for a touchup.
The paper with my care instructions, which I didn't read until after I got home, included a disclaimer, "There will be an additional charge for procedures done at a discounted price." No one mentioned that part in any of our conversations nor was an amount listed.
The salon owner was supposed to contact me to schedule my followup. Since I hadn't heard from anyone and it's been four weeks I sent three emails over the past few days with no response. Today I called and spoke with the owner. She said she'd been in the hospital and apologized for being behind on following up.
She said she could get me in for my followup later this month, and to remember there is a $75 charge for EACH procedure. (Brows, lower and upper liner.)
When she told me it would be $225, I got more than a little irritated. That's only $25 less than I paid for all three complete procedures. Her response, "Well you can't expect the girls to work for free." Then she started going on about the fine print on the Groupon that said the discount was good for only one procedure. (Remember I didn't buy the Groupon and had I, i would have assumed followup would be included.)
I paid $250 for my brows and upper and lower lids. (Actually $280 because I tipped her $30.) it took her less than two hours. That's $140/hour. Considering the girl who did the work has to pay a commission to the owner (who is her mother), I figure she had to have pocketed at least $140 for less than two hours work.
Hubs heard the conversation and grabbed the phone and told her what she was doing was ridiculous and told her he was going to report her to the BBB and I would be giving her negative reviews on all the local sites.
If the follow up charge had been $75 total, I wouldn't have gotten so perturbed. Bottom line: I got screwed all because I wanted to save some money.
My brows are ok although I would like them to be a little darker. I'm not happy with my liner at all because she wouldn't connect the top and bottom liner even though I showed her a picture of what I wanted because, according to them, "it makes your eyes look droopy." I also requested a thicker line on top but she did such a thin line you can hardly see it. Lesson learned. read more
