I had a Greek salad and my husband had the fresh fish of the day which happened to be sea bream. Both dishes were plated beautifully and tasted terrific. The staff is also very friendly.

We found this restaurant through Google Reviews and generally had high hopes, but were blown away by the experience. We ordered salads to share, drinks, and pasta before a tiramisu - I went for a seafood pasta (see pictures) and negroni. We definitely could have avoided getting the two salads; portions were massive and we ended up not finishing either salad. My main course was delicious. The pasta had a zesty, fresh flavor between the lemon, olive oil, parsley and tomato, but the welcome surprise was seeing mounds of mussels, clams and shrimp inside the dish (I'm from New York and expected maybe 10 total) that took me almost 5 minutes to deshell before I went to town on it. Cocktails were excellent - hard to see from the photos but huge and delicious. Resulted in a great midday buzz. Limoncello spritz was also good but perhaps too strong for a lunchtime drink. Other courses ordered: - Lamb ravioli - Had 1-2 bites and tasted good, but probably a 3.5-4. Not really up to my palate and compared to my own entree, hard to beat :) - Carbonara - Solid. Incredibly rich and this was an entree where the large portions actually hurt more than helped - Salads - Hard to tell bc I was full of pasta Minor ding if anything is the ambiance. It's a block or so away from the crazy shore of Como but still was getting a bit loud by the time we left. Not a real complaint and didn't affect our experience, but if you're looking for a more quiet and relaxed experience you might want to go to a less touristy area. Thank you for a lovely meal!

OH wasn't this a fun lunch during our time on Lake Como!…read more So undecided while actually in Como, we ended up just picking the nearest side-walk open restaurant... we picked well! Hosterietta was a lovely decision! We decided to sit outside on a day where Satan had obvious controls of the thermostat. They were kind enough not to judge me for wiping the sweat from my brow so I didn't drip in my food. They brought me a fresh towel... and then likely judged me harshly behind closed doors... sorry folks, bad American manners but it was HOT! FORTUNATELY, they have lovely massive umbrellas outside to sit under, and they helped immensely! They have a wonderful menu, both in Italian and English. They have very accommodating staff that are quick to tell / share of their favorite menu items (I love it when they do this!). I actually chose my meal based on their recommendation. Forgive me for not remembering what I ordered. I did start with a salad... heads-up folks, if you start with a "starter salad"... it is enough for an entire meal! They recommended wine. The four of us planned to split one bottle... as you all can imagine... that didn't happen... after a few glasses each, we all left with smiles on our faces!

Truly a memorable meal in a lovely setting in the hills outside of Milan, this 3 star Michelin…read morerestaurant lived up to its rating. Arriving later than our reservation, we were warmly greeted and seated outdoors under a large awning. There were globe lights that warmly lit the area and the evening air was pleasant. Service was exemplary as one would expect. It's difficult to point out dishes when the meal is stellar but I really enjoyed the foie gras cherry with dark chocolate and the Iranian caviar. It's not fair to single out two dishes when everything was perfectly executed and beautifully presented. The duck was good, also, when I awoke from a brief nap and didn't miss the dish. (It was a long day!) What a great place!

During a stay in a B&B a few km outside Bergamo, we discovered there was a 3 star Michelin…read morerestaurant also a few km outside Bergamo. What luck. So we dropped in for what they call the "business lunch," a 5-course menu at 80 euro plus 35 for the wine pairing. The difference in food quality between 1 and 2 Michelin stars is pretty big. The difference from 2 to 3 is usually non-existent. The reason a restaurant gets the extra star is all the extras. Michelin standards demand them, and restaurants add them, and you pay for them. At Da Vittorio, those extras include the beautifully manicured grounds, the near 1:1 ratio of staff to diners, the real silver silverware, amuse-bouches, and a fun candy trolley that wheels around the dining room. There's also a ridiculous and luxurious bib that they tie around your neck (with total synchronicity between all the people at the table, another hallmark of 3-star service) in preparation for their paccheri al pomodoro, a saucy tableside preparation that doesn't really need to be prepared tableside (again, a hallmark of 3-star service). The best thing I ate was the few pieces of zucchini and roasted potatoes that accompanied a pan roasted sea bass. Don't get me wrong; the fish was perfectly cooked. Everything else was perfectly cooked, or raw, like the seafood crudo with zucchini puree and mint, another highlight. But another difference at a 3-star restaurant is there's some poor cook whose entire job it is to ensure that those little bits of vegetables are perfectly cooked. (They're called the entremetier, and I was one in a past life.) Eating humble vegetables treated with such respect is always a welcome experience. Why 4 stars then? Well, the place is a bit too much like Disneyland or Vegas. Or maybe even New Jersey, when it comes to the decor. They're very focused on Da Vittorio as a "brand;" everything is emblazoned with their logo, even the little purse stools they bring by the table. There's a Da Vittorio in St. Moritz, and one in Shanghai, which tells you how the family that owns the place is (deservedly) cashing in on that brand. All of that forced grandeur was, for me, an unintended and overwhelming consequence of the chase for those 3 stars. Also, they forgot to serve the dessert wine.

We finally made it to the Seafood Market! Probably you have also heard that Milan's seafood is the…read morefreshest you can get in Italy although the nearest coast is almost 2 hours away. Well, most of that seafood comes from this place, a big marketplace in the southeastern part of the city. During the week it's only open to restaurants and businesses so you can't just go there and buy your fish, but then during Saturday mornings, from 9.30 to 11.30 just a few stalls remain open for everyone to buy their fresh fish. It's a market so you'll find the people in the stalls shouting the prices and offers and showing their products, crowds standing in front of them (if you're not very tall, like me, you won't be able to see a thing - or be ready to push your way to the front), wet, slippery floors and obviously, strong smell of fish. We went there just to buy something for lunch but ended up buying also for the day after and even something to keep in the freezer. They are used to selling in big quantities so don't expect to go there and ask for 3 shrimps and 2 slices of swordfish... like we though. Everything is sold by the kilo so we brought home almost 3 kilos of fish, too much for just the two of us, but we loved the taste and quality of everything and we saved half in the freezer. Prices are not cheap, perhaps a bit higher than what you usually find at the supermarket, but quality and freshness here are ensured. If you're lucky enough, by the end (around 11.15 or so) they might lower the prices trying to sell everything they have left.
