We have worked with Fern and Bella for multiple projects over the last 5 years; in the end they have remodeled or updated every surface in our house (floors, walls, ceilings) - at least once (and our kitchen, twice). We keep returning because the results have been about as perfect as possible, and the quality has been top notch. The only thing that has ever needed to be revisited, was the outline of a fluorescent inset light that had been patched with drywall in the ceiling, which after 6-12 months sagged a bit so the outline was clearly visible in what should have been a smooth ceiling; Fern came and take a look, and quickly got the team to redo it all, and it was perfect. For so much work across so many projects, that's pretty amazing quality. The team is great about communicating when they will be onsite, Fern is very responsive on text and phone. We have had some miscommunications about  billing methodology, however we don't feel that we have overpaid or been misled. It just seems every contractor has a slightly different way of computing their costs and explaining them in a invoice, and handling additional work as it comes up. Costs have been competitive or better than competing bids. I highly recommend Bella! read more

My husband and I recently had our master bath and guest bathroom remodeled by Bella Home Builders and Crew and we are very happy with the results. We interviewed several contractors before selecting Fern to do our projects. He answered our questions, got back to us in a timely manner, provided a quote within our price range, and shared a wide variety of bathroom cabinet and tile stores from which to pick out our materials. After spending time sharing our vision with Fern, he assisted us in designing our layout. He took measurements of our space, gave us constructive feedback and suggestions, and kept us abreast of any change orders along the way. Bella Home Builders clearly take pride in their work; in particular we were extremely impressed with how meticulously the shower and floor tile were laid. In addition, Fern was very responsive when we got together to create the final punch list as we neared the end of completion. In fact, he noticed things that needed attention even before we did! We have to pinch ourselves often as we still can't believe we finally have the dream bathrooms we've always wanted. We recently came home from a trip we took to Europe and one of the biggest conveniences we missed were our beautifully designed brand new bathrooms. We highly recommend Bella Home Builders for your home project! read more

This review is long overdue! We worked with Bella Home Builders on a kitchen re model and other various projects around our home. We were nervous as it was the first time making major upgrades. Fern put us at ease from the initial consultation and continued to build trust throughout the process. We felt our ideas were heard and we were offered suggestions we hadn't thought possible. This company has a great team of workers who are friendly, skilled and professional. They were also very Covid-19 cautious. Communication throughout the re model was excellent. Fern and his team are clear, direct and update you on the process frequently. We absolutely recommend Bella Home Builders and would love to work with them again in the future. Their work vastly exceeded our expectations! read more

We recently did a completely new Deck for out home with Bella. This was a tough project as it is a cantilevered deck, and we live in a HOA and it needed engineering, approvals etc. Bella did a great job with this project and the new deck is structurally strong and the final finish looks exactly similar to the rest of the community. We are extremely happy with the quality of the job read more

Fern was able to see my vision of what I wanted in my kitchen and bathroom remodel. He made suggestions and recommendations during the process. He was also COVID safe. I love the updates! read more

Fern did a total of 4 projects here at home already, including a full kitchen remodel, an outside kitchen, and rebuilt a condemned balcony. I've always been happy with the results. I think he is careful, does good quality work and is fairly priced (not the cheapest, not the most expensive, but a fair price for the good work). I recommend their work! read more

I've done two projects with Bella - first a pergola then a window replacement/sliding door installation (where a window used to be) & exterior remodel. I am super happy with the level of quality and overall attention to detail they've provided. Fern has been a partner in design along the way, suggested great materials and provided solid recommendations as to why to do things in a certain way. Pricing was always clearly communicated as to any changes. Communication was always rapid and clear. Schedules were subject to normal variances but overall the work was done very quickly and I was kept informed as to next steps and timing. Fern was great about juggling work to try to minimize disruption. I'll be using Bella again for future projects for sure. read more

Fern and his team at Bella Home Builders worked with us in our backyard ADU construction project and we are quite satisfied with the results. Our project was an extension of an older structure into a ADU, however midway through the project we found significant challenges with the original structure. Fern worked with us, re-planned the project, addressed many other concerns along the way and worked with us at the end in achieving a reasonable final project cost. Like many others, we interviewed several contractors prior to selecting Bella. He pays strong attention to detail, takes ownership of the project and focuses on quality results. His quote was competitive and our cost overrun was due to unexpected discoveries. My parents who will be living in the ADU are also quite satisfied with how the ADU turned out. I'll recommend Fern and Bella Home Builders for anyone considering an ADU project in the area. read more

I hired Bella Home Builders to build an addition of a bedroom with bath. I am very happy with the results. There were features installed that I did not expect, but were very nice. Fern made suggestions that turned out great. Fern kept the job moving along even though the delivery of the windows was delayed a few months. Fern made sure work was done correctly so that work passed all city inspections. I would use Bella Home Builders again! read more

Bella is a reasonable business doing high/ultra high quality. Professionalism: very careful. Communications and estimates and scheduling leave no room for misunderstandings. He has clearly been to the rodeo. Price: I can do better, but nothing hidden or unclear. Overhead charges are fine for large projects but not geared for small tasks. I certainly get what I pay for- work done very well, on schedule and without frustration. Flexibility: aces all the way. I have a ton of my own ideas- I would get 1 star if I had a client page and the contractors rated me. Fern gets me what I want! He installed an elevator for me to Cary gear to the attic, the install was custom bordering on nutty, he made it work and finished to the finish satisfaction of my wife. Quality: Rigo is the guy you want on your project- amazing worksmanship and he totally sees problems before anyone else. Fern is an artist- i had removed speakers from a wall and had a drywall patch job- flat wall no texture, strong bright downlights- he thought it might force a whole wall float and repaint, but tried a local patch first- I can't believe how it well it turned out. All my contractor friends said the patch would be obvious- I know it is there and can't find it. read more

Fern with Bella Homes did a phenomenal job of our attic remodeling project. It was a complex construction project that involved reinforcing the foundation, replacing stud walls with shear walls, building a staircase, and fully converting the attic to a habitable space with a bathroom and a patio. Fern's communication was stellar and he kept us updated on the project status. He was on top of any issues that arose and addressed them timely. Fern is a perfectionist and supervised the project with a sharp eye for the details. His crew is very experienced and executes very well. Fern managed the city inspections in a professional manner and we passed all of them with no rework! With a project as involved as ours, Fern was quite flexible in accommodating our input. He offered great advice on interior decoration decisions ranging from picking interior/exterior color of the house to setting up the fireplace with a distressed mantle piece. Fern ensured that the layout, flow, and appearance of the house were in harmony and ultimately delivered the project to our utmost satisfaction. read more

To whom it may concern: It is my pleasure to write this unsolicited letter of recommendation on behalf of Fern Ruezga and Bella Home Builders. Fernwas the general contractor for a remodeling project on the interior of our house in the fall and winter of 2013. I had no prior relationship with Fern, who we found through a web search of contractors. The remodel included the removal of a load bearing wall and a complete renovation of the kitchen down to the walls. While major remodeling is inherently stressful for almost any homeowner, Fern's services as a general contractor were invaluable, and I am extremely pleased with the final result. Specifically, I would give Fern top marks in the following areas: 1. Quality of work performed. The quality of work done was consistently top notch. Fern used subcontractors who were knowledgeable, skilled, and competent in their respective trades. They were conscientious about following project specifications, and their work product rarely needed improvement or revision. 2. Quality of work crews. The workmen whom Fern utilized were professional, reliable, courteous, and respectful of the homeowner's property and privacy. They had an old school work ethic (often 10-hour days, some Saturdays), good work habits, strong safety orientation, and emphasized getting the job done right rather than doing it fast. Their pride in their work was evident. They tidied up at the end of each workday. I also found them to be trustworthy, and my wife and I felt comfortable with allowing them access inside our home. 3. Project management and coordination. Fern's prior experience working in construction really paid off. He was knowledgeable about all aspects of our project, and was able to plan, coordinate and manage the activities of different work crews effectively. He remained closely involved in overseeing the project from start to finish. His excellent attention to detail, strong organizational skills and commitment to follow-through are assets which enabled him to juggle the extensive details involved in our project without missing a beat. 4. Effective communication. Fern kept me closely informed of work crew schedules, delivery dates, and projected completion dates of different phases of our project. His communication (whether by cell phone or email) was always clear, informative, and helpful. He was either available on his cell phone, or returned my phone call within 2-3 hours. We never had a single miscommunication throughout the 2-month project. His communication with the work crews was just as effective. 5. Responsiveness to homeowner's needs and concerns. Fern's commitment to homeowner satisfaction was evident in his actions. Whenever we expressed concern he was quick and pro-active in getting back with us and sincerely wished to insure our happiness with the process. Thank you Fern. read more

I hired Bella Home Builders to do some renovations for my family home back in 2012 and wrote a 5 star review to reflect my overall satisfaction. Update to present day, January 2015. .. Still 5 star worthy! I had a small problem come up and Bella Home Builders really came through. Fern sent out his crew and the problem was solved. They went the extra mile and they definitely stand behind their work. Thanks again Fern :) read more

I do not recommend Bella home builders as I recently had a very bad experience working with them. They wasted 2 weeks of my time and did not even provide estimates. I recently bought a single family home in the bay area and wanted to make changes worth 100K before moving in. The changes involved kitchen relocation and complete remodel, adding a new bathroom, changing half bath to full bath, making a vaulted ceiling among others. I contacted the Bella builder for a bid / estimate after reading review on yelp. The very same day, I submitted all architectural and structural engineer's drawings. As decided, Fern, president of Bella builders, came to see the property. We had a detailed discussion on the changes required. After 2 weeks, I started following up on the cost estimate, which was still pending. Fern told me that he can get the estimates by the end of that week or early next week. Upon insisting on providing whatever portion of the completed estimate by Friday, I also suggested to provide separate estimate for a vaulted ceiling. The idea was, vaulted ceiling estimate efforts could have been pushed to next week if not yet done and other changes which were more critical to me could have been reviewed by the end of that week. Upon this request, Fern simply replied saying he was "almost ready" with the estimate, but since I asked to provide separate estimates for the vaulted ceiling change, he can no longer work on my estimates and I should not expect anything from him. First of all, if he was "almost ready" with the estimate, why was he insisting on completing the work next week when next week was 5 days away? And if the request I made was too difficult to handle, any person really interested in the work, would have called me and explained to me the challenges in fulfilling my request. But he made no such efforts. I reckon, he did not work on my estimates and he was looking for some reason to back off from the deal by putting blame on me. He wasted 2 valuable weeks of my time and at the end he was happy sending an email saying he cannot work on the estimate. I would suggest everyone not to waste their time dealing with this contratcor. read more

From last year (2014) we decided to have a remodeling project to expand our house. Our project includes removal of an existing structure, rebuild with a new room and expanding two of the existing bedrooms. Interviewed with several contractors and finally chose Bella Home Builders (Fern) to do the job. Went into multiple issues throughout the entire project (NOT caused by Fern and his team), first was our initial architect/designer not able to fulfill his contractor to complete our design/drawing. Then in the middle and end of the project where we had one of the pickiness city inspector from San Jose to pick on every single detail about the modeling. But thanks to Fern and his team which were able to solve every one of them professionally and with excellent quality of work. Fern's project management and coordination as a general contractor is a must for home remodeling project. His determination to get the job done and customer satisfaction helped a long way for what could have been a frustrating project. Highly recommended for remodeling project. read more
