Dancer's Choice - Time for new pointes!

Dancer's Choice

This little Dancer's shop is owned by Josephine's (Pointe Shop) mother, "Grace". Grace has owned…read morethis shop for over a decade or more; and through the years she has collected a large trove of several pointe shoes, leotards and all things you would need from the smallest of accessories to the newest designs! Hours of Operation is regularly 10am to 6pm daily (see website hours). It is a well-known and popular shop. Grace runs the shop solo and her assistant is there every other day. Please be patient, Grace understands each shoe is costly especially if they are Pointe shoes $125 and up, so she gives you the patience of "time to decide" versus being rushed. She will give you options based on if you have wide feet, narrow, or even a lower heel fit in the back to avoid scraping the skin off your heels. Ultimately, you leave having picked your first pointe/ballet/jazz/contemporary/character shoes comfortably. Customers can walk in and might have to wait longer, but there is so much to look for to pass time. There is no returns for dancers shoes and many items with any wear on them. Is it worth the wait? I think so. You drove out there and the options are endless from the floor to the ceiling. Many shoes that have run out in other dance places may still be here. Ask? If your shoe design is gone, Grace will give alternatives and honest feedback of similar shoes. Cost is the same as other Dance stores. Location is off the Aliso Creek Road exit and you'd turn into a small street called "Journey", it's in a small business nook. Business owner: Grace presents with a humble nature. She is experienced having been a ballet dancer herself and then understanding the needs of dancers. She is helpful in shoe fittings because she understands it is the fit that makes the difference. The customer also has to speak up their preferences so she can help identify what your personal preferences and fit are too! She carefully listens and guides you. We leave here feeling as if we have visited a family member who is so respectful, kind and gracious. Exceptional****** Grace always picks up her business phone unless she is helping a customer. We have bought 6 Pointe' shoes here for the Houston Summer Intensive of 5 weeks and we feel equipped! We just love and adore "Grace" at Dancers Choice. Thank you Grace!!!

I did a pointe shoe fitting and was disappointed. Not the best selection. What I got was the best…read morethey had but I wish she had more options to find a better fit. The lady who runs the store is very kind, just needs more options.

TLDR: We will not be back and warn other POCs to not come to this store. They will treat you like…read morecriminals. Went in on a Saturday morning. The store only had 2 other customers in there. We walked in and said hello and already the old white lady gave us attitude saying she was stressed that there were so many people in the store already. Ok? That's the greeting we got lol already strange. But then we notice that everyone else in the store was white and we were the only two Asians. It just felt weird when another group of white girls came in and got a great greeting and immediate help/attention. My sister made a comment about it being a little hot in the store but was ignored. As soon as the white girl a few minutes later made the same comment, all of a sudden the old lady could get up and turn the thermostat down. She then told the group of white girls that the thermostat was down and to let her know if it was too cold. Ok fine whatever, we're here for clothes not customer service. My sister and I find outfits to try on. I look around the dressing area and there's NO SIGNS saying to not go in without an employee. So I go in first to try stuff on while my sister waits outside. (The only sign we could see was on the wall that said 2 max items in the room. So us being good people took two items in while my sister waited with the other outfits outside). As I'm naked in the dressing room, the old lady suddenly pops up asking who's in the dressing room and being super aggressive. She says we're not allowed to go in without an employee. (Which is weird because there were two other customers in there before me and she didn't bat an eye? and also there were no signs anywhere that were visible) I say sorry and tell her to wait and that I'm naked like three times. She keeps trying to get me to come outside of the dressing room. I tell her I'm naked and she says to just come outside anyways? LADY, you're lucky I was in a vulnerable position because I should've been yelling more. After the 3rd time, I oblige her and come out HALF NAKED. She tells me I'm not allowed to try things on without permission and snatches the items from my hand. After being ignored, not talked to, and then being told to come out of a dressing room half naked is both rude and humiliating. We were made to feel like criminals and less than. It was such a surreal experience. After the old lady took the clothes from my hands and I was able to finally put clothes on, I ask where the sign is that says I can't try on clothes? At this point a younger employee helps us and points at a sign THAT'S HANGING ON A POLE AND ON THE FLOOR NOT VISIBLE TO ANYONE. I tell her how unprofessional it is and that the other employee was rude and yanked me out of a dressing room with barely my shorts and bra on. The old lady doesn't even apologize or acknowledge us. At this point the store felt hostile and unwelcoming. We left without trying anything on. The old white lady continued to ignore us and cater to the other white customers. We will not be back and warn other POC to not come to this store.

DivaWear Dance Costumes is one of those truly rare companies…read more What I mean by that, is this: They're in a league all their own, and I don't say this lightly. I've worked with the entire DivaWear team for three years straight, and they consistently and collectively amaze me with their vision, their products, and their presence. What is most striking about DivaWear's dance costumes, dancewear, separates, and accessories, are the impeccable and refreshing designs. DivaWear's costumes are utterly incomparable to the mass of dull, tired, commodity costumes offered by their competitors. I've seen it first-hand how dancers get on stage wearing DivaWear and instantly grab the judge's attention. With this high level of design, you'd expect to pay $700-900 from a custom costume designer, but DivaWear has managed to deliver a superior product for a fraction of that price. What was once only available to a few lucky dancers is now attainable by everyone. The quality and construction of their products are superb. What makes it all possible is DivaWear's staff. Over these last few years, I've gotten to know everyone on the DivaWear team, and it's the people that are working the magic. The owners are both from a prominent dance-family, and they genuinely care about the success and happiness of dance studio owners, choreographers, and the dancers. It's not uncommon for me to see the owners themselves sitting down with their seamstresses cutting patterns and designing costumes. They aren't afraid to get their hands dirty. The result of their hands-on approach is a company that is simply better than all the rest. Besides the ownership, the rest of DivaWear's staff are comprised of career dance choreographers and instructors who've won many championships, as well as career dance costume seamstresses and other professionals from all areas of the dance industry. The bottom line: If you dance competitively, DivaWear should be the first place you call when it's time to get a costume for your solo performance or your group. I'll wager you'll be thrilled that you gave them a chance.
