An improved experience at one of just two area Belk's on the Southside. The first wow was the storefront was clean and inviting. That was a huge turnoff previously., All I needed was sheets and they were in the sales ad for Belk Days. I headed to the rear and found a decent selection, but I was late into the sale. I needed a King deep pockets to fit over a topper. A staff person did assist at my request. I found a 400 thread count original price $250 for 50% off. However I needed in white, the last one left was cream. I discussed the swap of colors at checkout and confirmed they could mail the white sheets directly to my home at no charge. This was huge because the store is 45 minutes away from me. Unfortunately the clerk was extremely slow, possibly does not do this often. She was very cautious to ensure accuracy. So I'm mixed. I got the sheets within three business days and the quality was excellent! After a wash and putting them on I was extremely satisfied at the bargain price. If you can afford an upgrade on thread count you will not be disappointed. It's like sleeping in a luxury hotel. I would return, but it's far and the deals do apply online with often free shipping specials to your home. Belk's is known for having great deals and I do like the department store 3.5 rounding down with checkout being slow. read more

Usually I get great deals on merchandise here at the Suffolk Va store but I had a bad deal on a quilt set that comes with 2 standard shams. When I opened it at home the 2 shams were missing and only 1 king sham was in it! I was told this was this was a final sale and cannot bring it back but I called the store and they told me to bring back and talk to the manager and I will see how this situation turn out for me read more

I went to get a contour make up from Estee Lauder makeup. One staff was doing makeup with a client, the other was ringing up a customer whose belk card wasn't working. I told her I wanted Contour makeup and she said they were out of it. Really? You can't at least try a sample on me and let me know what I want so I can order online? I've had to order mascara online because they were out too! This store is so bad and a waste of customers time. So understaffed it's frustrating. read more

I like Belk because it's one of those stores where you can find really really good deals! The best Belk I've experienced was the one in Nags Head. I would do a review for them in another post. So here we go for this location .... All I can say is OMgosh! What in the world? The store first of all smell like an old perfume warehouse. I guess all the shoppers wear perfumes and on top of that, the perfume that's being sprayed in the store. My nose started running.. Clothes were everywhere and disorganized!! The rack of clothes that was hanging on the wall fell and it was on the floor. I made a joke with the sales lady but even then she didn't pick it up.. Smh I went to try on a pair pants in the dressing room and it was soooo dirty and big giant dust balls were everywhere! Like it was just rolling around the floor getting bigger! I said forget it I'm just not gonna try these pants on and ran out! This particular location also doesn't have the better styles, definitely due to the demographic systems that most retail stores follow. It's like straight outta 1992. I would think all Belks were this way, because this one has been this way for that long; however, I've been to one in Atlanta and it was the equivalent of a beautiful (and modern) Macy's in NYC or something. Suffolk's Belk has a lot to aspire. Or maybe they don't, because like I said, they've been here forever and they thrive. They just need a make-over. The best looking area of the store is obviously the newest, The Michael Kors handbag section. It is all-consuming. The biggest brightest thing you see as soon as you walk in. Otherwise, Belk's entire selection of merchandise reminds me of Stein Mart. They don't have great sales. And a lot of the stuff, specifically in the home store, is covered in dust, which begs the question -- WHO SHOPS HERE? Or better yet, WHO WORKS HERE?? I've visited because it's super obscure so I thought I'd find some good deals, in Corningware, linen, and small appliances or whatever. Well, there is roughly one person working in the back area of the department store, and never in the home store. A hunt for euro shams took twenty minutes with an associate's help. Spoiler alert: They don't sell them. They have price scanners throughout the store, and you'll need them because the only associates readily available to help you are at the fragrance/make-up counters. And that consumes a large part of the store. So if you are looking for that and you're in Downtown Suffolk, go to Belk. read more

Belk Suffolk, Virginia Meghan in the Women's Department provided excellent customer service! She took her time to ensure that my undergarments were the right fit. I didn't feel hurried or even rushed. When I arrived, she was in the middle of doing something. It's reasons like this that keep me coming " inside" vs shopping online. This place always has a great deal. The staff is friendly and helpful most times. The items are usually the same, but there is plenty of choices there, so I'm always grabbing something different that I didn't get from the last visit. Gave it one star because there was no zero there. Ordered pillows on Belk.com that came to $100. They didn't work for me. It was $50 to send them back. With all the internet ordering I do I never came across anything like this. I will never order a thing from them again. I called customer service and got no help there. So, there aren't a whole lot of shopping options near our end of Suffolk. The Belk is fairly small compared to some (like the one in my hometown), but it's well kept and the employees are friendly. The shoe section is a bit lacking (I love shoes), but I did get two pairs of fabulous Clark's on sale (about $50 apiece) and some quality name-brand jeans for $27. In fact, the misses blue jeans selection is HUGE!!! read more

When you need to get something and can't make it to the mall you usually can find something here They don't have the greatest selections. You can fond deals on housewares and bedding the most. Clothing is hit or miss. Usually I would rather go to the mall but it is nice to have the local option. read more

For the city of Suffolk this is as good as it gets for retail shopping in the downtown area. Belk has a decent selection for men and women clothing. Shoe dept can be lacking but they say they can order online. Homeware items have a good selection also. read more

The ONLY reason I shop here is because they do have good sales. Otherwise, I probably wouldn't come here. It's not the cleanest, most organized place. It's sometimes difficult to find an associate but I will say that when I finally track someone down, they're always friendly and helpful. read more

When I moved to Suffolk in 2004, Belk, and Wal-Mart were about the only place you could buy clothing, unless you traveled to the Mall. A lot of older people shop at Bell in Suffolk. Shoe's, make-up, handbag, household items, and bedding sections, kid's are excellent! Depending on your style, you can find a top here, or there, that doesn't look too mature for a younger person to wear. All in all, this store has saved my life when I needed to find a quick outfit, or dress! Usually pretty friendly too! read more

I had a return that was kind of large and called Belk to see if I could return online orders in store. The person who helped me on the phone assured me that I could easily return my orders at this location in Suffolk. When I arrived to the store the first thing the "sales associates" started to do is run for help and try to tell me they wouldn't be able to accept my return. I stood at the counter of the shoe department arguing with assorted crazy people, I mean "sales associates" until I called headquarters and told them what was happening. Headquarters told them they needed to accept the return (very obviously against their will), so I unloaded all of my items from my car into a shopping cart and made two trips in the freezing rain to get everything inside. I then helped the huffing and puffing "sales associates" pack my shoes that belk sold me into boxes to be sent in for a return to the warehouse. I left my packing slips and papers with them and departed on my hour drive back home. I got a call from a strange phone number about 30 or so minutes into my drive home, when I answered it was someone who identified themself as "Danielle", she tells me I need to come back and pick up my return and send it back myself it "isn't the stores problem". I argued for about five or so minutes because this whole dealing I've had with belk from square one was terrible and now they were basically treating me (a customer) like I work for belk or something. "Danielle" told me that my returns would be sitting there waiting for me until I come pick them up and do the return from home myself. I drove all the way back to the location and came in looking for the person who "helped" me before, I ended up standing about another 10 minutes or so waiting for the person with my items to bring them out to me. Then they watched me load my car back up again with the items I wanted to return in the pouring freezing rain. The manager finally arrived twords the end of my experience after bad mouthing me over the phone and telling all of her employees to tell me that I couldn't make the return. Her name was "Lisa" according to all of the staff, but who knows, they where all lazy liars trying to get out of doing their jobs. "Lisa" unapologetically told me "It was just too much of a return for her store" and walked off. She literally stood there under her umbrella and smiled at me while I was freezing soaking wet before she went inside. I end up finishing before I got pneumonia and drove back home. When I started to try and box everything up at home I realized I didn't have a lable to send the boxes back so I called headquarters again. I told them I had the items at home boxing them up and needed labels sent. She sounded very confused at headquarters and asked why I had my items at home and why they weren't at the store like we agreed on, now I was very confused too. Come to find out after some back and forth with headquarters that they don't even have anyone named Danielle who works there. So what the "sales associates" did was have someone call me on a fake phone number from the store and pretend to be someone from HQ. These people all need to be fired, they are all very lucky they don't work for me. The level of disrespect and lies from these people is something I expect from very small children and bad teenagers, not adults. I will never spend a dime of my money with belk or any company associated with this horrible company ever again thanks to you "Lisa" and "Danielle". I should come after your jobs but you deserve to work for belk. Thanks for nothing. read more

I am exceptionally pleased with Belks fashion selection, deals, and customer service. I have been to the store several times this month and each time has been a great experience. They have such cute southern yet modern styles of clothes for women. I haven't shopped in the men's section, I usually have too much in my hands and have been there too long when I finally think of the men. The employees here are great. I can shop freely, check out is quick, and they are very accommodating. On two separate occasions, I did not have coupons. While both sales associates were different, they both immediately pulled out coupons and gave me additional deals. I didn't ask for them to do this at all. In addition, every employee I've encountered has been very friendly and helpful. I'm honestly surprised at all the negative reviews. This place is a hidden gem in Hampton roads!! read more

I Went in their yesterday to get a nice shirt for my husband and everyone hid from me when I needed help. When I tried to find someone they all snickered at me while I was in the process of finding a shirt(this was the mens department) I went to home goods and the women working home goods cut her eyes at me and walked away. What in the heck has happened to Belk in Suffolk??? I went in last night to find a "festive" shirt or sweater to wear to a Christmas party and they had NOTHING. The only holiday clothes they had were the corny/cheesy ones. Plus the store is way too crowded with racks of clothes and very disorganized. In addition to that, I don't care which brand I went to all of the clothes look the same. I definitely think they need a new buyer for the store.
