3-night stay in 4-bed mixed dorm in March/April…read more The cafe area was so cute! When we arrived mid afternoon, there were so many people milling about on their laptops or chatting. It gave a pleasant feel. This is also the area you check-in at. The front-desk staff were very friendly and walked us through how to use our key cards and where things were located. The room looked like a dorm room, as expected, with bunk beds and lockers. We also had a private bathroom and shower, which I was pleasantly surprised about. We couldn't get the A/C to work, so we had to keep the windows cracked at all times. It would've been nice to be able to open the window completely for more airflow as it got stuffy/warm often. The beds are a place to sleep... don't expect much comfort. Loved the basement common areas! So much space and unique places to sit. It is also a bar at night with karaoke and lots of people mingling. Overall, it was a clean and fun hostel experience.

I and my wife got the whole room for ourselves and this was during the two day heat wave. So, there…read moreis no option to book AC rooms while booking on their website and apparently they have AC rooms but it's random. You are either lucky enough to get it or not. I don't thinks that's fair. Room service is not prompt. And the restrooms and the rooms stink. Absolutely no ventilation in the restrooms. The only solace is the bar in the basement which has some nice vibe but watered down drinks. The Wombats at Budapest was 10 times better and that's the reason I chose to stay here, but I'm disappointed.

Staff could not have been nicer, more considerate, or warm. Even though I'm almost double the age…read moreof the typical 20-year old backpacker, I still rated a kind hug goodbye from one member of the staff, and a hearty farewell from others. The pub area was very comfortable, and the public as well as guests came in for a drink, lunch, internet access, pool, or just to talk and visit. It was charming & warm, and I felt happy working on my conference paper -the reason for my visit- there, having a drink, or just waiting to meetup with my fellow traveler. Bed linens were white-lovely-clean & included a welcome comforter. Towels are rented for 2-3 Euros. 1/2 hr. international calls on a cell phone was rented for 2 Euros, and an hour on a rented laptop for 2.5 Euros. Codes are provided for the door into the general hostel area, and for the door to individual rooms. I was assured that if I wanted to do so, I could leave my luggage with staff during the day for security if desired, but that most people leave their belongings in their room, which was true; I did the same. It would be nice to have lockers, or similar, but my things were unmolested. I was in a 9-bunk room - stacked 3-high - with men & women. Noisy with bar noise from down below & from people in halls or coming/going at any hour day or night, but I read reviews in advance & anticipated that. Two baths with shower, toilet, mirror & 2 sinks each. Trash & cleaning well-maintained. Breakfast was hot water for tea, instant coffee, or hot cocoa, and bread to toast with butter & an assortment of jams & jellies that change. This was my first hostel experience, & I'm surprised to say that I really enjoyed Best Place! I'd go again in a heartbeat. Lovely people, great staff, quaint setting, and great location...about a 4 minute walk to Lambeth North underground, 10 or so to the main Waterloo Train station, around the corner from lots of places to eat, and maybe 10 minutes to the Thames.

This most recent time i staed there I was brutally attacked and assaulted by six people from this hostel. When I told them manager that I was uncomfortable staying there any longer and asked if I could get get transferred to the St christophers in 3 blocks down the street. But the manager on duty acted like I was lying about it when my face was already severely swolen and my eye was already starting to bruise over. She kept asking me why I didnt call the police and the paramedics. I told her that I did but she clearly acted like she didnt believe a word that I was saying.. the manager on duty made the whole thing so much more uncomfortable and acted like I was completely out of line transferring to a different st christophers inn because I no longer felt safe at the location that I was at. I did end up going to the hospital a few days later. I had a fractured cheek bone, a major concussion a cracked rib on one side and a broken rib on the left side of my body. (((Update))) St Christopher's inn at the villiage responded and keeps saying that the event allegedly happened, insinuating that im lying about the the whole incident. Which is exzacty what they did when I first came to them about the incident. This place is completely unsafe, Do not stay there!!! Instead of lifting a finger to do literally anything to make it right. This is how they treat the situation? Victim blaming and then insinuate that the victim is lying about the ordeal.

Great for one night stay. Managed to snag one of the 4 bed mixed rooms. It is the metal bunk beds…read morebut the mattresses are decent. There's no communal fridge. Low rating was because I had paid 5 gbp to use the locker only for the employees to struggle to try to find a working locker...turns out I had to use an upper locker since the rest were taken or broken on the bottom...after 4 to 5 tries of trying to find a working locker. Later another employee gave me 4 more tokens because I should have gotten multi use privileges. Secondly, in the morning the toilets were working...but then towards 1030, the female toilets were all plugged and the toilets on the male side smelled of poop since there was no water going to those toilets on the first floor. Ended up using the toilets on the ground floor. There's no elevator unless you're going from the ground floor to the -1 floor so I had to go up a few flights of steps to get to the first floor so pack light. Location is good. Less than a mile away from the Elephant and castle tube stop or you can take a bus to and from the front of the hostel. I took one from the hostel to the Waterloo station.

My towel was a better quality than the rags they offer their guests and the maid ended up taking it. When I asked for it back, they denied taking it and tried to blame it on the guests... I have more valuables but the guests decided to take a TOWEL! DO NOT STAY HERE, find yourself an Airbnb at the same price or less.
