Very classy and beautifully decorated restaurant. Pleasant atmosphere and located right in the heart of Helsinki. Years ago we had mussels in garlic butter and French bread. It was good and worth the trip. This time my visit was rather interesting. My friends and I all had a salad from their lunch bar. It didn't offer as much variety as other lunch buffets around that area, but it was ok. Both of my friends ordered a waffle with deer mousse with pickled onions, Arugula, and salad. I opted for a baked potato with shrimp salad, green stuff, pickled onions, and tomato relish. Actually I liked my meal very much. The food presentation was beautiful on all three plates. I was happy because Belge had nice drink options including non-alcoholic wine. I had to order a small bottle of white vine, could not get only one tiny glass non-alcoholic. No problem, it was good wine but it did cost as much as my lunch. About the service. Both waffles were cold so the nice waitress did bring my friends warm waffles at their request. I had an issue with my salad plate from the buffet. The server apologized but did not offer to replace my salad. The next day I contacted the Restaurant Manager, not to complain, but to let her know what had happened. She was very professional and friendly and she understood my point of view. (Day before she had to leave early.) We had a great conversation about how the situation should have been handled. Maybe the waitress was new. Overall, I give the Manager and my meal five stars. Very much disappointed of their current COVID rules. I've been triple vaccinated in US and showed my official vaccination card with New York State issued QR code. I also proved a paper copy of my Finnish vaccination certificate given by Finnish authorities, that was not even good enough for this restaurant. They insisted to see Finnish / EU based QR code which is only available when you have an access to Finnish bank account, or Finnish issued electronic ID card reader. Those two I don't have. So, even you're from Finland, and able to provide a written paper copy of your vaccination records, given by Finnish authorities, this restaurant policy discriminates you and doesn't want your business. I had lunch here while visiting Helsinki. It's a beautiful restaurant and bar. For lunch, you sit upstairs and they have a prix fixe meal and some other dishes too. The menu is pretty much in Finnish. I had tortellini which was just ok and it came with a salad bar (forgettable) and bread. I had a beer with my lunch. The service was okay, and again, the restaurant is quite nice looking. Nothing to exciting report. I'd probably come here for an early evening drink in the cozy downstairs bar. read more

We were looking for a nice place for dinner and someone recommended this restaurant. We weren't disappointed. The 500g mussels were great and big enough to share among 2. The service was great, and so was the live music. Highly recommended to visit after shopping in the nearby stores. read more

You like a good Belgian beer occasionally and want to enjoy it in a decent but cozy pub? Maybe you should pay a visit to Belge this weekend in that case. This Belgian restaurant, bistro and pub is as central as it gets in a side street of Aleksanterinkatu. The dark interior gives it a stylish look and a warm atmosphere at the same time and makes you feel comfortable right away. When entering Belge on the lower floor you find yourself in a small and narrow pub area. Take the stairs to get to the much more airy upper floor that has enough space also during the weekend when it gets really crowded at Belge. Drinks and food are served on both floors. The variety of beers is really good and they also have a good selection of changing dishes on their menu. It's a great place both during the week and on weekends. read more

Belge benefits from a great location in the middle of a busy shopping disctrict, with lots of seating options: street tables for drinking, a ground floor indoor bar, plus a lounge and restaurant upstairs (accessible from the street as well as the indoor mall). The decor is very dark but not bad. The European beer selection is excellent. So I would definitely recommend them for that. As far as the food is concerned, we shared a savory Belgian waffle served with a green salad and mushroom dip/spread (my guess is that it was mushrooms with a little cream cheese and minced raw onions). It was pretty good but the waffle was tiny and thin. For a Eu 10+ starter, it was a bit ridiculous. Then I had a mushroom crepe with ratatouille. The crepe was pretty thick but OK, the mushroom concoction was the same one as in the starter! Not cool for vegetarians. The ratatouille was bad. My wife's mussels and French fries were a big let-down: the mussels were bland (tasteless wine, little to no shallots, little salt) and overcooked (dry and rubbery) and the French fries were very large and pale (so of course mushy inside). Not worth the calories. Bottom line: go for the beers, not for the food. read more

The restaurant is gorgeous! Upstairs you have a library bar and a dining room. We had dinner, got a nice seat next to the window. I have to admit, I was not a big fan of their Belgian waffles with mushroom. The waffles tasted a bit too oily and the oil tasted a bit burnt. Hubby had a club sandwich and was happy with it. Nothing crazy good tho. Worth visiting, have a few beers and go somewhere else for dinner. No complaints about the service. read more

We took some visitors from England to Belge, for food and drinks. We got a table for six in the restaurant section, upstairs. It took 20minutes to order our drinks and food. Another 20 minutes for the drinks to come. After another 20 minutes, the food came. The portions were small and some dishes (brisket) were cold. We were served by a waitress called Johanna. She was rude when taking the orders and dealing with our criticism. I'd recommend this place if you're looking for a generic belgian ale and somewhere to sit. They occaisionally have a band playing, which can be nice. But don't go if you want good service or decent food. read more

Extremely slow service. Be prepared to wait for a long time for both waiter and the food. Mussels are just ok, not so fresh.
