Is $70 too much for an 8 foot Frasier fir? I didn't think so because my trees usually cost upwards of $100. A few friends told me they sell for much less at other tree stands. I don't know. This one is very fresh.
Between the flu and travel, this is the year we almost didn't get a Christmas tree. I couldn't let that happen, so Monday night, exactly one week before Christmas, my son and I set out to find a tree. Any tree. It didn't have to be as big or as grand as the usual "beast" but it had to be a real, healthy, and fit in the back of my car. I typically get trees that would put Clark Griswold to shame. We're talking 10 feet tall and as wide as I am tall. Not this year. This year's tree is a pathetic little 8 footer that's probably barely 3 feet wide. You know, the kind of tree normal people get for Christmas.
We pulled up at the place that proudly advertises "Christmas Trees $15 $25" and picked out a $70 fir. I'm not sure what kind of tree you'd get for $15, but I'm imagining hearing Schroeder play the piano as you effortlessly put it in your car.
Some of the trees are grown there on the lot and some are grown elsewhere and shipped to them. The latter was the case with our tree. It was dark and the lot was not well lit, so I can't say what the trees grown on location are like.
All in all, we picked out our tree, got a fresh cut across the bottom of the trunk, paid, loaded the tree in the car and headed out all with 10-15 minutes. That's pretty quick.
Just for future reference - if you let the backseats down, you can absolutely fit an 8 foot Christmas tree in the back of a Toyota Camry, with room to spare. This isn't the first time I've done it either. ;-) read more
