Its okay for a quick meal but for the money I would rather go to a place with better quality ingredients.

I love the name of this shop! The owners guessed the words to my secret mantra. I was happy to…read morelearn that a gourmet cheese store had recently arrived to this corner of Maine. Located around the corner from the main drag it's easy to find because of the eye catching chalkboard signs we saw on the sidewalk which point the way for you. There was an initial big disappointment here which turned out to be the first thing you are confronted with at the entrance and that is the metal spiral staircase that one must climb in order to enter. There is no other way in that I could see. Never mind how treacherous this could be on an icy winter day, the real tragedy here is that this means access is barred to those with certain disabilities, anyone in a wheelchair, a parent with a stroller, a frail elder and others that may have trouble navigating such a wretched means of entry. Once safely inside the space it's small but quite inviting and pleasantly decorated. The bounty is contained in one large glass-fronted refrigerated case and it's delightfully packed with cheeses from places near and far. The friendly man working there who I believe was the owner, told us to just let him know whatever it was we wanted to sample. Say no more! Already displayed were a few plates of already cut up cheese samples from which I took a number of nibbles. I love when shops do this although for hygiene sake I would have loved some toothpicks to spear the cheese rather than have everyone use fingers. I decided on the cutely named Ewephoria which is a sheep's milk cheese (get it?) from Holland. It's a hard cheese that was nutty and buttery. We loved it, so I'll be on the look out for it again. There were some artisinal salamis for sale as well that intrigued my husband. From trips to Tuscany where boar is king, he has become especially fond of this kind of meat. He bought some of the smoked boar sausage that he said was delicious. The shop also sells a small but decent selection of wines and some gourmet crackers. We wished they sold some fresh crusty baguettes which would have made this one stop shopping for the perfect picnic fare. There is nothing about what they are selling and how they are selling it inside the shop that I have any trouble with. It's great. What I hope is that the owners who have come up with a great idea for this town, will figure out a way to address the need for access to all. And from the owner's point of view, they should be thinking about all the customers who they are missing because they can't get in. I don't know how the appropriate changes can be done at this exact location unless there was a secret elevator or entrance I missed. But if not, there have got to be other available storefronts somewhere in Belfast in which to set up shop. Hello, calling Belfast realtors... This is dedicated to Michele R. whose reviews always take accessibility into consideration and from whom I've learned much about this issue. Her well articulated reviews have helped me to be more mindful about this kind of equality.

Service, ambiance and food 5 stars. We recently had a…read morefabulous Middle Eastern dinner. Ordered the lamb with Orzo... mouth watering with incredible taste snd texture, falafel (Best ever and as a New Yorker of the Jewish persuasion I've eaten a lot of falafel) was incredibly moist. The accoutrements that went with it were outstanding and tasty as well. The three of us shared those two entrées as well as the beet salad which was scrumptious. The cocktails were fabulous... We enjoyed the margaritas which were fruity, flavorful and refreshing . For dessert, we shared the chocolate Babka . Don't tell my Bubbie that it was even better than hers. The only disappointment is that they close for the season, and that's what makes the place extra special for us . See you next year !

We were turned away because we did not have a reservation, despite seeing that many tables were empty throughout the restaurant. As we looked around, numerous guests were already seated and being served food, which made the situation even more confusing. What made the experience worse was the way it was handled. The staff member we spoke with was rude and dismissive, making us feel unwelcome rather than valued as potential customers. We completely understand that restaurants can have policies regarding reservations, especially on busy holidays, but there is a respectful and professional way to communicate that to guests. We were looking forward to celebrating Father's Day together, and instead we left feeling frustrated and disappointed. The poor customer service left a bad taste in our mouths and unfortunately overshadowed what should have been a special family occasion.

The #1 best value lobster roll in the State of Maine, conveniently located along Route 1. An easy…read morestop on the way up or down the coast. Not just an easy stop, but a must stop! Get there early and you will probably see lobstermen unloading crates of lobster from the nearby harbor. It's not waterfront, but in the late fall you can see the bay through the trees after the leaves fall! Bonus! We ordered a traditional Maine style mayo lobster roll and a buttered lobster roll for comparison. The traditional Maine style mayo lobster roll was absolutely perfect! Just enough mayo to bind the fresh, plump, tender sweet cold water lobster meat. Oh and no fillers, just lobster meat (mostly tender sweet knuckle/claw meat, mmmmm) and just the right amount of mayo. Same for buttered lobster roll, just the right amount of clarified butter as a binder. No need to overpower the fresh delicate flavor of tender cold water lobster from Maine waters. Both lobster rolls were presented on an over stuffed buttered and grilled hot dog style roll. Plated with fresh, hot ,skin on shoestring fries and some house made slaw. Delicious! Both rolls perfect! Hard to tell which one we liked better. Maybe slight advantage to the traditional mayo style, just cause thats the way we like it. If you cant decide, We recommend you get one of each, split with a friend, and judge for yourself. Either way you wont be dissapointed. The Bayside store is not just a lobster roll place. Its a great old world style small market with something for everyone. You can get just about anything from breakfast, to a burger, to fresh house made soup, to a great selection of local craft beers! As soon as you walk in through the swinging screen door you feel automatically welcome. Seems like the place where there is always fresh hot coffee on and friendly staff to greet you. There are relaxing benches and some hightop counters to relax and enjoy your meal or a cup of coffee. Weather permitting, there is also casual and comefortable outside seating. Oh and the staff was so pleasant and welcoming. Makes you want to come back and be a regular! Highly recommended! 5+++++ We will return! Again and Again!

A few picnic tables outside for eating lunch or enjoying your ice cream. Easy in, easy out parking. The young ladies working the register and the deli were very friendly. I admit I haven't quite found my sandwich there yet. But I will keep trying. Lobster roll didn't have any (?) flavor but the McCrum fries and the Cole slaw were amazing. Be sure to upgrade to the basket. Enormous pile of fries, you can share among a small family! I hear the burgers are very good so that will be my next try off the menu. Cute place, friendly people, great selection. Definitely worth the stop.
