I'm being a little to mean on these guys. I'm sure people do need these stores from time to time but personally, I just can get away from the stigma around them. On this particular store, the inside just looks quite strange. In the corner, they appear to be selling random power tools and domestic cleaning products and there's a desk with two chairs right in the middle of the room. Sitting in that chair I'd imagine is quite similar to sitting in front of the head master in his office at school.

When…read moreI called about a week later, they said it would cost £160 to get fixed, £40 for a replacement hinge and £100 to repair something internally. I said I could not afford that at the moment and would take my computer and come back when I had the money. The man told me I could safely leave my computer with them until I had the money to fix it and this I did. When I got Christmas over I went back to the shop. I was told they didn't have my computer there but he would find out where it was and ring me. He didnt but I called in again and was told that it was up in their Glengormley warehouse and they would get it down for next week. Next week I called and the guy said he still hadn't received it back. I called the following week and he told me he had got it back but they couldn't fix it and there was no point in me taking it and he could sell me a second hand one. I told him no I wanted my own computer and would try elsewhere to get it fixed. He insisted that my computer was useless and not worth me taking back from him. I told him no I wanted my own computer. He told me to come back the following week. I came back the following week and was told he was waiting for a part for it from Dublin. I was baffled as they were not fixing it so what was the part. Anyway I was suspicious all along that they had before Christmas removed parts from my computer, ie dissected my computer and were now trying to put it together again. He told me he would ring me but of course he didn't so I called in the next week; another man was there who said nothing and just handed me back my computer. I dreaded what state it might be in. I took it to a repair agent, whom I knew to be reputable. He told me that whoever worked on it last had damaged the hard-drive beyond repair and that the motherboard was damaged. I was not surprised that the inside of my computer was destroyed and was dubious that the hard-drive was even mine. I suspect that after removing my good hard-drive and using it, they stuck an old faulty hard-drive into my computer, as my hard-drive was perfect when it went into their shop. I am writing this to warn others not to use these cheaters, who stole the hard-drive out of my computer and handed me back a computer which is scrap.

Recently my 83 year old father with alzimers had a problem with his tv.I couldn't get an engineer out to help just before xmas, despite the fact id no problem paying someone.I happened to mention it to Michael in fonehone & within a day Michael had sent Noel,the nicest man you could meet to fix the problem My dad is all sorted with his tv.I cant recommend these people enough for any IT problem. It's a very small shop but it always had what I needed and the staff are friendly and know what they're talking about. They've built a good reputation locally, which can only come from the type of customer service you get from independent local retailers (see my reviews on Direct Furniture, Gibson's butchers, etc.,). In recent years they've shifted a lot of their focus to tills and cash registers for businesses. You can still get most of the accessories for your computer that I mentioned, but they really seem to have found a niche locally for customising and supplying those touch screen tills that you see in so many pubs and restaurants these days. On the customer service point, I bought a hard drive from here once and a friend was fitting it for me when he told me it wasn't functioning properly. I thought this was unlikely and that he just couldn't do it, but I brought it back to Sanco, they tested it, and it was faulty. They gave me another one, and their apologies, and I was on my way. No hassle.

I also find it annoying to have to look through a catalogue of types of paper to order the stuff. Luckily enough, this place has a delivery service. It therefore has computer records of orders. A swift phone call that includes the sentence, "what did I order the last time", resolves all issues and avoids a conversation so boring that I almost want to watch those events in gymnastics where participants wave a ribbon around or contort while holding a ball (there's more merit in having "Watching TV" as an Olympic event). UBE seems to be a bit more expensive than going to a large discount store, but they deliver supplies, and have a good service. They also supply chairs, printers, photocopiers, etc.
