Very rude, unprofessional as a hair stylist and does not have knowledge about how to take care of hair. Also, Trixie was not listening when I spoke about what I wanted done with my hair (was saying mhm and on her phone the entire time). Then when I nicely asked for the blow dryer heat to be lowered since it was burning my scalp she raised her voice with an attitude. As much as I wanted to support this black owned business I will not be returning since it was not a friendly or professional environment. I found Beleza while doing a search for someone who does Global Keratin in Durham. I had to travel there for work and decided I'd kill two birds with one stone by getting my hair done while there. I give them one star only because there is no lower score. I made an appointment with them in April, which was canceled and scheduled again and again by them. And finally when I got the appointment in late July, I went there and waited for one hour and then was told that my artist was not on duty today. What made it all worse is they showed no respect for customers at all. I got no apology for the bad experience. All I was told was "You can contact living social and request a credit." I bought a groupon for a trim, highlight and conditioning treatment. In June, I made an appointment and got in with no problems, but a couple of days before the appointment they called to say the stylists had to cancel. Ok, no problem. They couldn't get me in before a wedding I was set to go to, and I had to get a haircut from another place. At this point, I won't need another haircut until September. I tried to make an appointment when they called to cancel the original appointment for September at Beleza Couture (groupon expires Sept 29). The receptionist told me that they don't book that far out in advance. Ok, no problem, I'll call back a little closer to when I need the appointment. So, I wait until exactly a month before the groupon expires and call back. Now, they are all booked and can't get me in before the expiration. In this case, I think the respectable thing for a business to do is to honor the promotion after the expiration date. If they can't offer an open time within a month, it seems reasonable for them to say 'you made the appointment well before the expiration, we will honor the groupon.' But the receptionist was pretty adamant that wasn't going to happen, even after explaining the situation I detailed in the paragraph above (I had an appointment; they canceled. I tried to rebook; they refused to rebook at that time). This hair salon is also listed under Beleza Couture Studio on yelp. So, be sure to check those reviews- they moved locations in Summer 2012. So, make up your own mind about this salon, but I am pretty disappointed with the way they handled things. read more

Trixie has a great personality and my hair felt and looked amazing!

I had an appointment scheduled for 9/4 at 11am with the salon owner. Due to a medical emergency, I had to cancel the appointment. I canceled the appointment online and also sent the owner a text stating the emergency. She replied with a thumbs up. Unfortunately, I missed the 24 hour cancellation notice, I canceled 21 hrs before my appointment. Fast fwd to Tues, 9/8, I noticed a $70 charge from this salon. I sent the owner a text thinking that this was an error of some sort but I was wrong. She said because I didn't give her a 24 hr notice there was nothing she could do about the exorbitant fee. I have only visited this establishment one time, so it's not like I was a habitual offender at canceling appointments, and with the pandemic we are in, I didn't want to expose her to anything. However, I guess due to restrictions on her salon earlier this year, she is very MONEY HUNGRY and refused to reverse the charges. In my opinion, this is price gouging. I could see charging this exorbitant amount if I had canceled the day of the appointment but I canceled 21 hrs before the appointment AND WAS TOLD THERE WAS NOTHING SHE COULD DO ABOUT IT.. Her response was that her customers have canceled before with "emergencies", insinuating that I was lying about my situation. She also said she discounted my service when I saw her one time before. Basically discounting the styling portion because I only wanted color and a hair trim, no flat iron. She did a great job on my hair with the exception of leaving the color on my forehead, which I didn't notice until I got home. However, I will not be returning to this salon because I truly think the charge of $70 is PRICE GOUGING!! Maybe she really needed the money to make up for what she has lost due to COVID. I wish I my mom had known about Yelp before buying the Groupon for a mani/petti at this place. My experience is EXACTLY like those written before--rude service. We showed up around 9:15 for a 9:30 appointment. After milling about for about 5 min we were finally greeted by a lady who asked what we were there for. We told her we had an appointment at 9:30. She asked who it was with; we didn't know but we offered to check. She kinda shrugged and said something along the lines of "Well, I hope she is in by 9:30," then went into another room and shut the door. Around 9:30 another woman showed up (the owner, Trixie) and walked around before seeming to notice us and asking what we were there for. We told her that we had an appointment. Her reaction was short: "Not this morning, you don't." When we tried to explain and offered to show her our appointment confirmation she was not interested. She simply repeated the same phrase several times, finally adding "They don't get in till 11 on Thursdays." After this I walked out. Her mannerisms were not good. I work in customer service (server, yay!) and I know that when you mess up and schedule an appointment for a time when your employee isn't working, you try and fix it, not blame the customer for being there AT THE TIME OF THE APPOINTMENT. I purchased a Groupon for the Pravana treatment earlier this year, when they were still near Southpoint. Making the appointment was a horribly trying experience -- long story short, it took three calls, three VERY unprofessional receptionists, someone telling me to hang up and schedule online (huh??? I'm on the phone with you NOW though), a "dropped call" or two, and over a week for me to get in the appointment book. The day of the appointment (a Saturday), I showed up about 5 minutes after my scheduled appointment time. I had trouble finding the place in the shopping center (it faced away from the road) and even called them on the way there to get directions, so they knew I was coming. I got there and the lady at the front (I later determined she was Trixie, even though I got no introduction or anything) told me since I was late they wouldn't be able to get me in that day because my appointment would run into some other person's time. I was wondering how five minutes could cause that to happen unless they were double booking clients, but I just told her I had already gone through A LOT to finally get the one appointment. She sighed LOUDLY and went to the back to see if anyone was sympathetic enough to help me out. A very nice lady named Christina offered to help her out with my hair, and the two of them asked me to take out my ponytail holder. I had been wearing my hair in a bun and when Trixie looked at my hair she made a face and told me she would have to charge extra to detangle my hair, since I had CLEARLY just taken braids out. I told her that this wasn't the case, she was just looking at my natural texture, and I had just washed and deep conditioned my hair a few days prior to that. Her response (I still can't believe this happened) was that she had been doing hair for over 15 years and she knew what she was talking about. I should have left then but I guess because I'm a glutton for punishment I stayed. Christina kindly led me to her chair, and Trixie moved back and forth between eating takeout, sitting and talking with friends/clients, watching TV (Tabitha's Salon Takeover, ironically) and staring at me while I chatted with Christina. I write a natural hair blog, not to mention (GASP) I actually like to ask questions about what's going on with my hair when I'm at a new salon, and after about 30 minutes Trixie came over and pointedly asked Christina "is she doing an interview or something?" Christina told her that I was just asking questions about the treatment and Trixie returned to her chair to eyeball us from across the room. Things went smoothly from there, until I was put under the dryer and Trixie asked Christina to cut the hair of some lady who walked in without an appointment. Every 10 minutes Christina would signal to me that she was almost done, and every 10 minutes Trixie would ask her to do something else. Literally an hour and a half later, I was still waiting for someone, ANYONE, to finish my hair. I even had time for a nap. Christina got some free time and ran over to retrieve me, apologizing profusely for the wait, and I was so mad I didn't respond for fear of saying something very rude. After 15 minutes we had gotten back into a conversation and I was asking questions again. She finished my hair, and I will say it looked good. She offered me a trim to make up for the hour and a half wait. I was pleased with the style and tipped her accordingly, in spite of everything else that happened. My gripe with that is I was told it would last a few months, and after my first shampoo my hair looked exactly like it did before the treatment. It felt like I basically paid $89 for a blowout. Since I hadn't found another stylist, I called on 9/5 when I got an email stating that they were extending their Labor Day blowout special one more day to see if she is still there. I was ONLY willing to see Christina and even at that I wasn't thrilled about having to deal with everyone else. I got another unprofessional person on the phone, asked about the Labor Day special, and was told that it had expired. I read the email THAT I HAD JUST GOTTEN to her, and she changed her answer to "oh, well we're booked, so you can't get the special." I hung up and went online to see that they have some $28 haircut + blowout deal. I called to ask about that and SURPRISE -- more unprofessionalism -- the lady tells me they don't have any openings at all for "a while" and to try scheduling online. I went online, alright, and found a stylist actually worth the money I paid for the blowout ($45, by the way). I'd pass on this place, unless you too are a glutton for punishment. read more

I joined yelp specifically so that I could review this "world-class" salon. Now I just wish that I could go back in time and read the rest of the reviews before I bought my Groupon. I have received poor service before, but it has never been so off-putting that I was motivated to join a review site for the sole purpose of giving a business one star. It is nearly impossible to make an appointment with this salon for many reasons. They will only accept online requests, which will be answered with a few words at most, telling you that it will be another 2 months before there is an opening. No further information about what days you can schedule appointments (you would think for a salon that lists nails as one of their services could accommodate that during normal business hours). On my second attempt at making an appointment (a month after the original attempt), I was again informed that the next available appointment wasn't until July 17th. Ok, great! Oh, nevermind, I received an email back telling me that they do not take appointments after 5pm. Ok, try another day. After back and forth emailing about when I could schedule an appointment, I finally received an email in ALL CAPS informing me that "WE DO NOT HAVE FRIDAY'S OR SATURDAY'S AVAILABLE FOR THIS SERVICE. WE DO NOT HAVE A MANICURIST AVAILABLE ON THOSE DAYS. WE CAN SCHEDULE YOU TUESDAY-THURSDAY!!!!!!!!!" Silly me, what an idiot. Ignoring the rudeness of the final email, would it not have been helpful for all involved to either a) Include more information about when an appointment can and cannot be scheduled in the original email telling me that an appointment is not available for 2 months, or b) Include this information somewhere, anywhere, on your website? Judging by the way the scheduling, and I can only assume the business as a whole, is run, I would not want them going near my nails. I'll unfortunately have to eat the $30 cost of the Groupon, but that's what I get for not looking at the reviews first! Worst haircut I've ever had in my life, hands down. I would definitely not recommend this place. Nice employees and nice salon, but disorganized and not efficient at all. The absolute worst mani/pedi and eyebrow shaping I have ever had. Completely unprofessional. The nail polishes are very old. When my fingernails dried you could see air bubbles throughout the entire nail...sign of really old polish. I asked her not to take off any eyebrow, but just clean them up...I ended up getting pencil thin brows. The pedicure was really lazy...she didn't scrub my feet at all. Then she was stingy with the papertowels to space my toes (she rolled up one paper towel), so by the time I walked into the next room my toes were messed up. I asked if they had any quick dry polish or a fan and she said no, then went on to help the next client. She was completely unhelpful and unprofessional. DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY!!! I now need to go pay for another mani/pedi for my graduation and engagement photos this weekend :( read more

I will concur with the previous review. I also bought a groupon for a no chip manicure. I scheduled an appt and upon arriving at the salon I was told they would have to cancel my appt because they booked it for the wrong amount of time. I was unable to schedule a new appt within the time frame of my groupon which subsequently expired. Upon contacting the business to redeem my groupon they said I would have to call back in 4 days as she didn't know exactly what to do. Then when I called back they said that I could use the groupon as cash but that I had to have the service done on a Tuesday or Wednesday AND that they didn't have any openings until June (2 months away). When I then asked if I could schedule this Tues/Weds appt in June on the phone with her she said she had to call back all the people who left messages over the weekend and schedule their appts first and would have to call me back later. This seemed like to much work to her so on second thought she told me to just go to their website and fill out an appt request and they would get to it as soon as they could. This business is highly unprofessional and a disgrace to the groupon which usually has great deals. I have since decided not to go to Beleza Couture and groupon was graciously wiling to give me a refund. I hope they never deal with this salon again. DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME OR MONEY!! read more
