What a fantastic, professional, and dedicated team them they have! The boat hotel's services are truly designed for the convenience of boaters, and Carolina Marina's staff absolutely know boaters! Everything about the services - from being able to have the boat gassed up for us in advance of our coming out, to their handling all maintenance for us, to having our boat ready and waiting in the water when we get there - perfect! We have spent more time on the lake the past 2 years (thanks to the extreme convenience of Carolina Marina) than we had in the 5 preceeding years. I should also add that the boat hotel staff make it their business to know their boat owners. If we haven't called in advance of coming out, the minute the staff see our car coming down the hill to park, they go in and get the boat. They know us, and even though we change cars on them frequently, always manage to recognize us and have the boat waiting. They are also super-personable, and will go out of their way to help out. Service is quick, professional and friendly. I can't recommend them highly enough!

For just $6 you can bring your own kayak, SUP, or canoe to launch on their sandy little beach. Or you can rent one of their kayaks. Even on weekends with decent weather I've seen them mostly available on the spot. There are also options for an annual pass, fishing, and even a paved ramp to put in motorized boats. You could also very easily just sit and relax here by the waterside or stroll around. But if you want to get on the lake, this is the prime spot. Bird watching along the shoreline is great from the vantage point of the kayak. With a vast array of birdsong to ID, you can even see kingfishers ducking, diving, and doing anything to ruin your chances of proving they exist with a photograph. But at least you can enjoy a quiet and relaxing float to ease the soul.

On a day off we decided to take the boys on a boat ride for half a day. We called around and Duckhead was the most reasonable. The process was pretty simple. Pay a $250 security deposit on your Credit Card. Pay $180 cash for renting the pontoon boat for 5 hours. We paid the deposit on the credit card. We met the guy with the pontoon boat at the dock. He asked us where we were from and we told him proudly about the boys being in the Jr. Olympics. There was something about his facial expression when I told him we were from out of town that made me think humm. He showed us how to use the boat and off we went to have fun. About 3 hours in a storm developed and we headed to the dock. We met the guy at the dock and turned over the boat an hour early. He checked it out and took it for a quick spin in the inlet and then came back and said no damage and he would refund the security deposit. I didn't ask for anything $ back since we came back 1 hour early. I waited a week and didn't get any notification about the deposit refund so I called him. He said he must have forgotten and would refund that night. I waited another week and got nothing so I called again. He said he would do it right away I waited 2 weeks and got nothing so I called again. He said sorry and he we get to it quickly. It is now 2 months and no refund.
