Yes it's a winery, but it's about more than wine. Belden Barns is a family-owned establishment that recognizes and appreciates the agricultural aspect of being a winery. Beyond growing amazing grapes and making them into delicious, award-winning wines, they also have residencies for young farmers to have access to some of their land to so they can launch their farming careers. Come here for a tasting and you'll be captivated by the down-home farm-y feeling of the land. You can sense it's an intentional space as soon as you set foot on the property. They offer a variety of wines to taste and experience--from a bubbly to a white, to a variety of reds--you can't go wrong with a single sip. My favorite was Serendipity. The highlight of the visit isn't about grapes or farming or wine. It's about The Wishing Tree. After you walk through the vines, stop by the tree and make a wish for yourself, attach it to the tree, and let destiny take care of the rest. This is a super special spot in Sonoma County you won't want to miss. read more

Half the fun here is getting to Belden Barns--the road over Sonoma Mountain makes it a bit of a challenge and the entrance isn't super-clear, but once you get inside this sprawling property (and close the gate to keep the deer out) you'll get a chance to see a really cool vineyard/farm/winery taking shape. The tasting in an old barn is unpretentious and straightforward. After a nice Rose' to start, the unfiltered Sauvignon Blanc was an unexpectedly substantive and fruit-forward SB that deserves the plaudits it has received. Belden Barns is also the site of the only Gruner Veltliner planting in Sonoma County (and one of a tiny handful in the whole state) and the estate bottling of it is nicely-made, with a clean finish and solid acidity. The Serendipity Pinot Noir is outstanding--liked it much more than the Estate Pinot Noir, though it was nice to see the contrast in winemaking style between the two (go for the Estate if you like cherry cola). As for the Syrah, well, if you like Syrah, you'll likely like this Syrah. It's a good cool climate Syrah. The tasting consisted of 6 wines but they had plenty of other interesting bottles and we picked up their Blanc de Noirs and a Late Harvest Viognier. Surrounded by so many Chard/Pinot-only places, it's refreshing to find variety while still maintaining quality. While the Wishing Tree experience was a great way to cap off the visit, it was neat just to be able to walk around the vines and see some of the views off of Sonoma Mountain and into the valleys and hills around. There's a lot of interesting history about the property and some really cool farming ideas that they're working on. It's nice to see a winery that's taking a different direction from most others. We'll definitely be back to try the cider and some other wines and will look forward to seeing how the place and the wines develop. read more

Belden Barns - Views over the vines off Sonoma Mountain. En route to the Wishing Tree. - Wineries Near Me - Santa Rosa, California

There are lots of wineries in Sonoma. This one distinguishes itself. There is a magic here that keeps you buzzing past the wine tasting. The wishing tree, the rows of grapes along rolling hills, the family friendly vibe, the truly excellent wine--it all adds to something special, where you think that you, too, can dream big and make your wishes happen. It's not a corporate estate with perfectly manicured landscape, but an actual working farm with the owners there to welcome you in an open barn tasting area. read more

Belden Barns - Wine tasting time - Wineries Near Me - Santa Rosa, California

A very fun tasting of some truly superlative wines. Award winners in both reds and whites, Nate Belden knows wine and how to bring out the best from his family run vineyard. The road to his place from Glen Ellen is a bit of a challenge, but well worth the effort. read more

Exceptional experience for those looking for an off the beaten path wine tasting experience. The Belden's know how to welcome folks and you feel like you're part of the family by the time you leave. Rustic, rural, cool and fun. Great wine, the gruner veltliner is a gem, wonderful pinot (for fruit forward fans and those of us wine nerds who like more rustic stuff), killer sauvignon blanc, nice syrah, and don't miss the sparkling. Don't forget to wish big. read more

Belden Barns is a delightful experience. Not a stuff "wine experience" but a down to earth (OK bad pun) place to enjoy the owners and the wine. The Wishing Tree is a differentiator as is the excellent wine. Best Syrah around and the Gruner Vertliner is terrific. Go - you won't be disappointed! read more

What a great spot. Our car got stuck in the mud and Nate got his truck over and helped us tow it out. The property is wonderful and the wines are delectable. Since this was after the COVID lockdown, we had the entire estate to ourselves and watched a gorgeous sunset sitting under an acorn filled wishing tree. The irony was that our wish had already come true for finding such a amazing estate and owners. read more

This was such a unique experience at Belden Barns. It was an intimate and special tasting with Nate and Lauren as they shared their stories and lives with us. Beautiful location. The wines were exceptional- the sav blanc is an absolute must (it'll make you a white wine fan!). There wasn't a wine that we didn't just absolutely love. We all joined the wine club. Beautiful property and great wines. Belden Barns makes small-production Grüner Veltliner, Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Rosé, two Pinot Noirs, and Syrah. Most of the wine is sold to wine club members. The wines are outstanding and very reasonably priced. Belden Barns does not have a tasting room open to the public but you may contact them if you wish to set up a tasting for groups. read more

I had a wonderful and unique tasting experience at Belden Barns! My friend booked a tasting for a large group for her birthday and we rolled up in one of those Sonoma/Napa buses to the property. I think of the road options for how to get Belden Barns, our driver may have accidentally opted for the more bumpy way as the Belden Barns owner Nate expressed surprise about the way we came and noted that there was indeed a better, less bumpy way. The tasting took place in a barn, with bench or haystack with blanket seating pointed towards the counter. There was a cute and very friendly pup running around. Every wine we tasted was wonderful, which is a nice and rare surprise. Nate is a masterful storyteller and wove in the story of Belden Barns and each wine throughout the tasting. Joining the wine club was an easy decision, especially with the entry level Explorer option of a shipment of 6 per year. I'm really excited to see how they build out the property. Currently, it's super no frills with the bathrooms being those fancy bathroom trailers rather than permanently installed plumbing. But no frills plus excellent wine is exactly my jam! I'm a fan! read more

A wonderful non commercialized wine tasting experience. Owned by a lovely couple, Lauren and Nate who are passionate about wine have came to make some delicious wines I'm absolutely loving these days. You MUST join their wine club to get their wines. No where shall you find their wines distributed anywhere else. Lastly, makes a wish at the Wishing Tree! Happy wine tasting adventures. read more

We love Belden Barns! We = 2 parents, 3 kids, and 1 dog -- we are all fans (even though only 2 of us can partake in the wine). The property is gorgeous and so calming. There is so much for the children to explore -- the vines, farm, and farm equipment. The tractor alone provides hours of entertainment, far more than a jungle gym. I love the Wishing Tree and seeing the inner workings of our children's brains when thinking of something to wish for is so fun. I feel like I could stay at this property for days and it would do my body, mind, and tastebuds good. Did I mention the wine? Delicious -- many varietals and some quite unique, like a Grüner Veltliner. We will be back, for sure...and our taste buds will revisit sooner since we joined the Wine Club. read more

Awesome large group virtual tasting, really lovely couple and we can't wait to go in person to see the wishing tree!

This review is a long overdue - we have visited Belden Barns many times and every time has been so special. Beyond their delicious wines at an incredibly reasonable price, the atmosphere of the tasting and the whole property (especially the famous Wishing Tree!) all add up to make Belden Barns a truly magical place to visit. The owners, Lauren and Nate, are incredibly friendly and knowledgeable and always make you feel right at home. Make sure to add this to your list of places to go next time you are in Sonoma! read more

This place is amazing! They are family friendly, have wonderful wine, and beautiful grounds! We came here with four kids and six adults. The kids got a backpack with a scavenger hunt and had some independence exploring the grounds while the adults tasted wine! Every wine we tasted was really good, none were just ok, out of 7! The owners are wonderful! They are funny, relatable and open. People you'd like to be friends with. After the tasting we had a picnic under the wishing tree, which was beautiful! There's cornhole out and wishes from patrons hanging from the tree. I literally can't recommend this place enough! All three families (one family, but grandparents and the families of their two children) became wine club members! It's a hidden gem! read more

The best spot in Sonoma!!we absolutely love Belden Barns. It is quite the trek to get there, but totally worth the drive up the hill. Once you get there you park and walk up the path to the barn. This barn is completely picture perfect. There is an area for tasting and hay bails for sitting. They do a grape stomp in the fall that is fun for all ages. The wine is incredible and I appreciate that their wine club and wine prices are not insane. It actually feels like a steal for how good their wine is!! read more

I never write reviews but I feel compelled to write this one. Belden Barns is now one of my favorite places on earth. We came to Belden Barns over Christmas break last year and it was the family favorite among all of the wineries / vineyards we visited. Very family friendly and extremely inviting, we enjoyed tasting a wide selection of their wines in the old barn, while listening to the story behind Belden Barns, the wines, the family and the famous wishing tree. After the tasting we walked out to this beautiful tree, where you can leave your wish hanging on a branch. The wish I left came true for our family...and many others have come true too, as you'll hear on the tour. A very magical experience. I can't wait to visit again and think its time we join their wine club. read more

Belden Barns is like a second home to my family. Of course, we love the wine (pinots are amazing), but the property, the experience and the Beldens are simply the best. Can't say enough about our visits (we've gone back multiple times) to Belden Barns. Nate and Lauren and their two wonderful children make you feel right at home. There are not enough good words to describe how insanely lovely Belden Barns is! Surrounded by the most wonderful natural scenery in Sonoma, this place feels magical. The giant wishing tree is great for both making big wishes and taking photos, and the chandelier that lights the barn is definitely instagram worthy. Walking around the property is really an enjoyable experience in itself (made better with a glass of wine in hand). When it comes to the wine, I'm obsessed with the gruner. I'm not usually a white drinker, but it is buttery and so drinkable! I haven't tried a wine here that I don't like, and every friend I bring to visit can't help but walk off with a few bottles or even a membership to the wine club. The thing that really makes this place special is the Belden Family themselves, and the story behind Belden Barns. Having Nate and Lauren tell you about their story and each wine as you go through a tasting really completes the experience. Can't wait to visit again!! read more

My favorite wine and favorite winery in Sonoma! Most delicious pinot, sauvignon blanc and gruener I've ever had and the prices are incredibly reasonable. Almost more importantly to me is that this is one of the best winery experiences I've ever had - completely unfussy and unpretentious. It's a beautiful location - on the way to / from one of our favorite Sonoma hikes and we found the Beldens to be so welcoming and they seemed genuinely glad to have us there. And don't miss the wishing tree! Looking forward to going back soon! read more

Excellent family fun vineyard located in the heart of Sonoma. Belden Barns Vineyard grows its own grapes and makes a variety of delicious wines. Strong recommendation both for the wine and the vineyard experience. To purchase the wine, joining the wine club is the way to go, as they have a limited retail distribution. My favorite wines are the Gruner and the Serendipity Block Pinot Noir. Five stars! read more

Fabulous combo of a family run gem with the highest quality wine. Every varietal is so good - amazing how many they do well given that it is a small-batch kind of place. These bottles make great gifts too given how well-received they are among people of various tastes. The location is charming and the proprietors are totally hospitable. (Recalling this makes me want to break open a bottle, now!) This place is the real deal. read more

Belden Barns is a gem! The Beldens are welcoming, knowledgable, down-to-earth, and fun - and we love supporting a family run business! So glad we were introduced to Belden Barns! read more

Belden Barns is by far in a way my favorite winery in Sonoma. Not only is the wine fantastic, but the owners, Nate and Lauren, are some of the kindest and smartest people that we have met in the industry. Over the past few years, my fiancé and I have visited Belden Barns several times and each time has been a special, fun and intimate experience. The property is beautiful! Whenever our friends and family come to visit from other parts of the country, Belden Barns is always top on our list of places to take them. Belden Barns is also one of the first wine clubs that we joined when first moving to San Francisco a few years ago, and we have not been dissapointed. Not only do Nate and Lauren put on incredible events, but the access we get to their wines is incredible. In fact, we have fallen so in love with their wine, that we are serving it at our upcoming wedding! Simply put, a trip to Sonoma is not complete without a visit to Belden Barns! read more
