Im not much of a writer but ill try my best to make sense :) I've never had a service issue where an agent was shouting and accusing me of lying before so this was an interesting experience to say the least. Long story short, I bought a new car and replaced the coverage to my new vehicle, but after logging in I see both cars are insured. No problem! I called and nice agent helped me out and sorted it all out, turns out they didnt and I was still insured for 2 cars. Called again, got the car removed and my "new rate" was $50 more because I made too many changes (something of the sort) and my monthly payment will be back to normal in a few months. So I thought might as well cancel why pay more to stay with them if everyone else is cheaper. This is where it gets spicy. Called again to cancel, the guy on the phone was really nice and helpful, he understood the issues I had and offered to help fix it. If they fixed it I would have just stay insured with them but he had to transfer me for that. So then I was transferred, to a very rude lady. First explained the situation and she starts questioning my honestly, claims I NEVER called prior and im basally lying, having 2-cars insurance was my own fault because I added a car I did not "replace" it. I always call after making changes to make sure it was done correctly. So I check my call log and give her the exact dates of my calls, she still doesnt believe me and wanted to do some "investigation" to check the logs, I said go ahead. Why are we doing this? Keep in mind shes borderline shouting at me this whole time. Basically tried to just end the call and just cancel it, but then she tells me my next bill will be over $400 because of cancellation fees for both cars. If I wait until tomorrow one of the cars will be removed. So its not over I guess.. I have been with a few insurance companies in my time, and only selected them because of a speeding ticket I had in the past, and Belair were the only ones who would take me. Had to file a claim, (long story short) it's been 2 month of constant battling to get things done. Their customer service is none existent, and very rude to deal with. My car is only 4 years old, with sub 100k KM and they are charging me betterment on a few components (to clearly make more money off me). Betterment, is the process of improving something due to the collision, if my car was any older that would be understandable. Not in my case they want 50% payment on couple components. Wish I could give no stars..been with Belair for 6 years and they are horrible! Never been in an accident, but I do not feel like they would take care of me if I did. I started being unhappy with them after they failed to tell me that their Automerit program does not work on all cell phones. They signed me up for it promising that I would save money, but when my cell phone was not compatible with their program, they billed me $96- so I did not save anything. There was no previous communication- I did not even know there was a problem. All of a sudden I got a bill. Their communication is poor and they are clearly unable to handle the technology age. I also have not liked how much is online. As in, I have had to print off my own pink slip over the past few years. I think that is ridiculous, as in the event that I had to exchange insurance information, I would also need to keep scissors in the car to cut out the section that should be perforated. They have REALLY become cheap! As in, we pay thousands of dollars and they do not send us any paper in return- unless they are asking for more money. I also now further upset because I tried to cancel my home insurance policy and they will not do that without talking to my husband too since he is on the policy. They did not talk to him to set it up or to renew it over the past 6 years. In fact, they have never talked to my husband, not do they have any proof he exists other then the fact I told them he does (he does not drive). We work opposing schedules, and never see one another so we are unable to be present at the same time to cancel the policy. Belair does not care. They have no problem accepting money without talking to him, but if we want to cancel, he needs to give his consent. Absolutely ridiculous!!!! Only if zero star was an option, I would have given that. Their customer care has to be the most horrible thing on the planet. I was involved in an accident wherein a box came flying from a truck moving 2 lanes apart from me on busiest highway in ontario, Canada. It broke my bumper while the truck fled away from the scene. Obviously I was NOT at fault. I submitted Ontario police report next day as well. Now, their customer care bluntly say that, I have to pay deductible because no information was provided for the third party, means the truck that threw box at me on the highway and fled!!! While my policy clearly states that when I am in "not at fault" accident, I don't have to pay deductible. They expect the driver to drive like a crazy on a highway to catch the truck who hit your car and ran away. ridiculous!!! On top of that, its been over 3 weeks, they haven't provided approval to the repair shop to replace the broken windshield. All the repairs are being done at their approved work shop. The adjuster never responds to emails, never picks the phone, never calls back, means no response at all. The customer care people speak same things again and again no matter how many times you call them. Its the duty of the adjuster and customer care people to explain the procedure of Initiating and finalizing the auto claim. But they never tell you. You have to join the bits and pieces yourself somehow to find your way through the claim. If I don't call the work shop myself, no one will ever inform me the status of my car repair and claim as well, for months. So disappointed with their way of working that I decided to change my service provider while complaining about belairdirect to related insurance ombudsmen. I have been with them for several years, paying thousands of dollars every year. Awful app, awful company, awful services, been with this ridiculous insurance company for more than 5 years, because of the belairdirect app turn of the automerit function by itself then I was charged for 47 dollars from the day it stopped all the way to my next renewal, even I turned on the function by clicking one of the link they sent me afterwards, they were still blaming on me to pay for that 47 dollars. Although 47 dollars is nothing, not a big deal. But the company are dumb indeed. This is the first time that was ever happening in the 5 years and especially the automerit function was off by itself, not by me physically doing it! Belairdirect blame on me who did not check it and insist that I have to pay the outbalance of 47 dollars. In fact, I have confirmed with the agent every time when I paid the renewal, I am not going to have the time to check the app or make sure the app is turn on or even turn on the app manually every single time, the agent even replied "No, you don't have to, just make sure you download it and it worked, then it's all good". Therefore, if for some reason the app wasn't working or stop working by itself, the team should have FIND A WAY to contact me or MAKE SURE I am aware of the situation, because it's not like I did it on purpose. I talked to the customer service for over an hour. they would not transfer me to anyone that could explain how if I am tracking over 90+% that I only get a discount of 16% out of a max 25%. even though before I was 88% and received a 21% discount. on the auto merit chart I am tracking well above the other group. yet my discount dropped by 5%. when they first launched the app it showed the % discount you were tracking towards. now nothing and when you ask how this is possible it is secret information. before transparent now not. only do this if you don't want to explain yourself. seems like just an effort to increase the premiums. supposedly you are not measured by the comparison to the other group but some more local pool that they will not share the info on. read more

I went to bundle home with my existing auto and was informed by the provider on the phone that they do not service clients with Rottweilers due to them being "a dangerous breed that can damage a home". I was quickly reassured that it was not just Rottweilers, but Dobermans, Cane Corso's and more. My German Shepherd on the other hand, is no risk. My insurance flipped from Johnson to Belair Direct in the spring. I was able to get more perks with another company so I cancelled it. I was on the phone for approximately an hour, and the service person then told me that the outstanding balance owing was $22 since the day of policy renewal and cancellation had a 3 day lapse. I had asked to provide my payment details at that time, so the bill would be paid immediately, however I was told that I had to wait 1 day before I was able to make this payment. While I was trying to understand why I had to waste another day of being on hold when I had the information available to provide now, suddenly the price increased to $300. The service person did not have insight into how this cost was calculated and why the price suddenly changed, therefore he put me on hold to discuss with the financial department. After another 20 minutes on hold, I was told there was a glitch in the system and he no longer wanted to provide me with a number. He scheduled to call me back the next day at 10 am. I never received the call. After waiting one more business day after a long weekend, I still had yet to receive this scheduled call. I made a call today and waited on hold again for almost 45 minutes until I spoke with someone. I explained the situation and the service person apologized. I was told that the outstanding balance was in fact $300. I was told that this was just the cost of cancelling. I tried to understand how I was being charged $100 / day however I was not provided a break down. I made the service person aware that had I been informed that this would be the cost to cancel, that I may have reconsidered changing companies at this time. I had asked if there was a possibility to reinstate my policy but I was told too many days had passed since cancelling. I made the service person aware of the fact that I never received the schedule call I was supposed to receive on the day the policy was formally discontinued. By the end of both of these discussions, I was not provided all the information, I wasted hours of my own time and I did not receive a breakdown or understanding of this outstanding balance. I am paying a higher rate elsewhere, however the service I will receive will be worth the cost. read more

Their adjusters don't even follow their own rules and continually lowballing the market value without even using current information. At best, they have moved about 5% out of over a 30% value gap. They are not even aware of what the pandemic did to car values where used cars that can be bought today cost more than used card that won't be available for several months. All of my neighbours report better experience with other insurers and agree with the negative experience with both Intact and Belairdirect. I would really like to share this experience with those who are looking to move to new insurance companies. Very disappointed in this company. After being a loyal Belairdirect customer for years and promoting them by telling everyone that I got a great deal on insurance, they have made the claims process unbearable and completely unjust. In December both my car and my partner's car were parked in our driveway when a tree crashed down on both during an extreme winter storm, making them undriveable. I immediately filed a claim and thought it would be resolved within a decent timeframe. However, my adjustor, Heaven, who told me she was working from home and couldn't give me a phone number to reach her at, gave me an email address just to ignore me for 18 days straight. I called Belair frequently, speaking to a different person every time, pleading for them to tell Heaven to get in touch with me because such little progress was being made. I filed a complaint with the claims manager, Emily, who promised me Heaven would get in touch with me so I could get the $2k reimbursed for the tree removal that she PROMISED during that first phone call! I still have not received a call from Heaven to discuss the reimbursement. Also, It's been 40 days since I filed my claim and they JUST sent the appraisal documents for my car to the auto shop a couple days ago so they could start actually FIXING it meanwhile I've been paying for a rental car out of pocket!! I feel abandoned by this company after having both home and car insurance (by the way, they screwed up my home insurance when I moved too, leaving my home uninsured for weeks!) and making several complaints. I was very disappointed at Belairdirect. I was scheduled to the repair shop for estimate. I thought I can drop off my car and take the rental. So the staff from the repair shop made me to call Belair and confirmed if it was okay to authorize the rental for me. He noticed my car was drivable. After spoke to the adjuster, he gave us the permission. Now Delaidirect wants to the cover the two days rental while it could have been avoided. After I complained they argued that on the first call the adjuster explained the rental is only for use during the repair phase. Clearly I was misunderstood and if I knew I had to pay from my pocket. They preferably used the first call as their evidence and completely ignored the second one which they knew they made a mistake and misguided the customer. It's only 100 dollars however, it clearly speaks about its brand reputation. Action is better than the word. Good luck with retaining more customers. read more

I have my car insurance with Belair, and I have to say that they have the best customer service I've ever experienced. They are professional, but friendly and speaks to your level. They are knowledgeable, and if they don't know they would send you to another person who does. I've never had to wait longer than 1 min on hold, and no hang ups or rude people. Although you can deal with one specific agent, it's not really needed as everyone there can help and they are just as helpful, if not better. All the dealings I had with them, including claiming something, asking questions, making changes to the account, was straightfoward and I can understand. Makes me a happy camper :) Their rates was the cheapest for me at the time when I was getting my insurance. They have an include First Time Accident Forgiveness, which really comes in handy. Also all the paperwork and forms and things can easily be found online and most things are done electronically. You can also get Aeroplan points from every payment! The worst company I have EVER dealt with in my entire life. They automatically changed my policy when I inquired about pricing if I moved to another city. They then demanded proof of my current address through bank statements and phone bills. I sent them the information and they NEVER changed it. So I was paying more money for insurance in a city I wasn't living in. They also automatically renewed my policy without consent or notification, claiming they sent an email regarding the matter. My insurance with them was over $330/month for almost 2 YEARS going on 3!!! They then proceeded to tell me they could not cancel my policy unless I proved I was with another insurance company, and a cancellation fee would be applied to my account for terminating the renewal. (Keep in mind I called the day they withdrew the payment from my account for the renewal I was not aware of nor consented to). Two months into the renewal, I missed payment for the FIRST time on December 5th, and they did not notify me. NOTHING! I checked my account and it said January 5th they will withdraw $710 +hst (December 5th payment + January 5th payment + $50 late fee). January 5th comes and no payment is taken. A few days later I checked my account again, and it said the policy was TERMINATED. And I was only INSURED from October 5th - December 5th!!!!! I drove ALL DECEMBER under the impression I was insured and my next payment was January 5th!!!! Thank GOD I did not get into an accident because the company would have severely SCREWED ME OVER!!!! I had an accident in November, now in March I have still not seen a Penny from belairdirect. No rental. At least 1hour wait times on the phone. Still paying insurance for a car Not on the road anymore so my account stays active (in hopes of eventually getting money for the car). They finally gave me an offer, not even half of what the car was worth, now have to push back to show my car is worth way more than they say. Now for the injury portion, I got a letter saying they are not responsible, but another insurance company, (that I got insurance with a MONTH AFTER the accident occurred) should be paying. But in reality they will barely have to pay for anything as my benefits from work (which are now exhausted) pay for 95% of my treatment. Ultimately, pay for a service for a rainy day.
