I made every effort to cooperate--providing documentation, responding to requests, and even submitting additional information and corrections when asked. Despite this, my claim was ultimately denied. What I want others to understand is not just the outcome, but the process. Managing a claim of this size is extremely complex. It requires organization, accuracy, and emotional resilience--things that can be very difficult if you are already struggling. Over several months, I spent hundreds of hours trying to meet expectations and support my claim. The investigation process felt overwhelming and, at times, intimidating. As someone managing PTSD, the pressure and scrutiny had a serious impact on my mental health. At one point, the stress became so significant that I required psychiatric care. I recognize that insurance companies operate within policies and procedures. However, my experience felt highly impersonal. I often felt like I was being assessed as a file rather than as a person going through a loss. For those who are vulnerable or managing health challenges, I would strongly caution: do not go through a large claim process alone. Seek support early--whether legal, professional, or personal. This experience changed how I view insurance. When choosing a provider, it may be worth considering not just cost or coverage, but the level of support and human connection available when things go wrong. Horrible experience being given the run around between Intact adjusters that do not help their clients. I am frustrated re the recent handling of my claim with Belair (Intact Insurance) despite my mechanic agreeing to match the Belair Labour standard rates provided by the ajuster, they are refusing to cover the agreed-upon labour rates causing a delay in my vehicle's repair. I have been without a vehicle since Oct. 7/25. I was told by the adjuster that if I didn't take a rental that I am allowed to use their Rental Allowance program in place of a rental allowance would be $35 a day for everyday that my vehicle is in for repairs. They are now saying they will only pay me $35 dollars a day for only approved days, which I find unfair because I am still stuck not haning a vehicle. Causing me undue stress. read more

Intact Insurance subcontracts with first on site for fire or asbestos related cleanups. First on-site went through my house that asking what I wanted to try and save. In the end, I was missing my mother's sterling silver, my great-grandmother's quilt (she was born during the Civil War), a copper bowl from South Africa, and a fraternity pendant that had belonged to my mother's fiance. He was killed during World War II. These things were in my house and First on Site was trying to tell me that they did not exist. I used Intact Insurance for content insurance on an apartment. When it was up for renewal, the rate increased by $250 for the year. There were no claims during the year, and I was told that the rate I was receiving was a reward for being a loyal customer. I cancelled the renewal and went with another company. I wouldn't recommend anyone use Intact Insurance, their rates are one of the highest. I'm in Ontario. read more

I'm not sure whether my dissatisfaction should be attributed to Intact Insurance-or to the Broker (Gallagher Canada) who administers my Home Insurance policy. I have just received a Notice of Renewal that appears to have been generated by some form of AI-CHAT/GPT. It concludes with a very personal "on behalf of" which suggests that the agent named has had nothing to do with the (Probably Intact generated) notice, a personal review of my policy/circumstances-or with the preparation of the Notice. Zero stars. Horrible company. 40 years as a loyal client, never had a claim. Falsely accused of property damage by downstairs neighbour. Was asked for my insurance info. Called Intact solely for information on how to proceed. Explicitly stated I didn't want to open a claim and have rates raised, just had questions on how to proceed. Was repeatedly told not to share any insurance info with other parties and come open a claim if we're found responsible. Was told by multiple people, a lawyer included, that insurance should've been dealing with the fallout for me (it went to online court). Horrendously unprofessional employee berated and nearly screamed at my senior citizen mother on the phone (could hear it from another room) as she (employee) repeatedly demanded our claim number, which my mother kept reiterating did not exist. Then effectively called us liars when we said we'd been dealing with *employee's name* before, incase that helped, and she angrily argued that *employee* was a manager and most assuredly did not speak with us. We have a few emails from *employee* with her name clear as day if they wanted proof. I would've loved to report this awful employee, and really wish I would have, but my mother was scared of retaliation incase we needed Intact later in the process. Fast forward, we were rightfully found not responsible and never needed to open a claim. Only to receive our next Intact bill raising our rates due to our "open claim". Upon further review, also found a claim from 2006 that never existed that I was surely charged more for that I never knew about. They were absolutely useless throughout this whole ordeal. They did NOTHING for us, and still thought we'd stick around and pay them more. Dropped Intact like a hot potato the second my policy finally expired and will warn against them to others. read more

They increase your monthly payments constantly until you realize that it has become the double amount of the original payment very fast. Does not deserve any stars. Husband been with you guys since covid for car insurance, not one accident until last Oct. Took you guys a month before anything was done to the claim, no one was keeping us informed throughout the claim, had to keep calling you to get answers, the agent we had went on holidays etc etc. Obviously had to cancel insurance as had no car and you then decided to write off car ( which could of been fixed with half of what you offered ) Finally got another car this week, and wanted to use you guys again despite the problems we had regarding claim. Broker triedto see if you would honour the accident forgiveness on our first accident. I guess you dont honour it since you consider him high risk now after 1 accident. Quoted almost $ 800 for insurance for a 2020 kia Optima hybrid. Even the dealership said that was ridiculous. Don't use these guys. I've never had a worse experience with an insurance company. Their website RARELY works. Their app never works. Each time I try, it says I have to create a new password. Each time I do I lose access to everything and have to call them to get it sorted. If they can't handle something as easy as an account email/password, they shouldn't be touching your insurance. Then, the customer service is complete garbage on top of it. Ive been paying to them for decades and yet the one time I need to make a claim from theft, they wouldn't even help me. Trying to cancel a home insurance policy for my MIL. They are requesting my FIL's will stating that she is now the only owner of the house. They have his death certificate along with a legal document from a lawyer (registered survivorship) since the deed has both their names on it....still not good enough. She just sold the house and a chq was issued only to her since she had that legal document drafted but she can't cancel her insurance with it. She paid her insurance upfront (1900 and have never made a claim), and is expecting close to 1000 back from Intact. They obviously are making an 85 year old jump through hoops to get her money back. I wish there was a minus for the stars. In 2020 there was a terrible storm that ripped tiles from my roof and caused massive flooding inside. I went through insurance as the water damage was insane. In 2022, a 100 year old 10" city pipe that runs across my property burst and the water came up into my basement. I put in the claim, assuming they would go after the city as that pipe was supposed to be moved years ago and hadn't. I chased them non stop as their adjusters are not great. Finally had my basement fixed. Received an email this month stating that because of the two claims, I am now cancelled. What is the purpose of having insurance if you cannot use it when you need it? I have never before put a claim in for either home or vehicle damages in my life. Eff you Intact, never again. read more

I was paying 514 a month last year and then i received renewal for this this year at 617 a month and a week later they sent another renewal for 677 a month. I called my broker and they told me that my home insurance has gone up 1400 a year. i have no claims and intact just makes up what they want to charge you. How can they send renewal docs at 617 a month and then a week later send renewal docs again for 677 a month? these guys are scammers and don't care how long you have been with them. read more

Do yourself a favour and stay away from this company. I used this company for one of my properties. Long story short, two different incidents happened and Intact refused both claims using a very generic clause: "Gradual degradation of the insured property" which can technically be applied to almost all issues. Same issue happened on a different property and the other insurance company paid the damages without trying to finding excuses. You make payments to them every month and they will do all they can to not pay you in case of an accident. Do yourself a favour and choose another company! read more

Having contact with Intact leaves me feeling for years I have been paying for no coverage at all! We had a complicated issue concerning a special assessment from our condo board. Many of our neighbours who dealt with Intact received a settlement. We were completely unhappy with the manner in which we were dealt with during this ordeal. Horrible insurance company! I was struck by a street sweeper on a private road in my neighborhood. The street sweeper was stopped. No hazard lights, no turning signal. He was stopped. I turned on my signal light to go around him. He decided to turn and with no signal lights, no warning he crashed into rear passenger bumper. The adjuster (I will call her A), said I was 100% at fault because I was attempting to overtake him while his hazards were on. I asked her if she read the police report or interviewed the witness. She admitted she had not so I told her she called ill prepared and obviously A's mind was made up PRIOR to reading the report or interviewing me. A said she was "doing due diligence" so I questioned her further and the due diligence was to INTACT so my rates are increased! I have never been in an accident in all my years of driving, which is not the issue. The issue is INTACT adjusters are told the accident claimant is to be blamed in every situation to increase their rates. Why is this allowed to happen? Why is there no where a claimant can complain to have this insurance company investigated? My broker will definitely switch me to another company. If possible, the review would have been a -10!! read more

NO STARS!!! I had to put one star just to leave the review sadly. I have 2 claims with Intact Insurance. They have manipulated me and lied NUMEROUS times and bullied me. Staff all work together as a team to use deception and confusion and as a company they work together to cover up what they do. It is their company culture, the way that they behave. Staff get paid on what they save the company and they get great perks and bonuses and it makes them not care how they treat you, after all, they're just looking for their bonus. Did you know they pay the highest commission to brokers?? How is that even fair for the industry? The commission for Brokers should be the same. I have been 16 months trying to get answers from numerous complaints and all they do is lie and cover up. I have had to take my case to the fsra, the Insurance Bureau of Canada, the fsrao, the Law Society regarding lawyers involved, and the Privacy commissioner... and will soon take legal action. More people need to complain to the FSRA. Start there if you have a complaint. The reason nothing ever changes with insurance in Canada, is because no one ever takes the time to go to the bodies that govern insurance and see to it that they are reporting what took place and providing alot of evidence. Never delete an email, always insist that you have everything in writing from them and hold them accountable for their behavior! You are the customer, remember that DON'T LET THEM BULLY YOU! Keep notes of everything and keep a calendar of appointments and a diaryof notes. I send emails to myself with notes. Things have to change in Insurance in Canada, and I believe they will change for the better if more people stand up and don't accept the abuse that they're dishing out! I called to speak to my broker who happened to be on lunch and Andrew said he could take care of any questions I might have. From the get go I received big time attitude from him. He was very arrogant and rude. As a result of his rude reaction and response and not wanting to deal with him anymore, I immediately said to him, "Can you please have Josh call me back when he comes back from lunch." To which he answered, "Huh, I think I'm quite capable of handling that." I have been a customer of theirs for several years and this is the treatment I get...no thanks. Under no circumstances should you ever go with Intact Insurance. If you ever need to make a claim, as I did, they instantly become your enemy. They don't want to provide customer service or pay money. They will use your words against you so be careful what you say. They will jack up your premiums even when you are not at fault. They will never let you speak to someone who has authority, can do more than repeat boilerplate rules, or is more than a beginner in the insurance industry. I got an offer for my two cars insurance and I signed the contract with my agent for 4000 CAD and finalized every thing. When intact send me the contract it was 4560 CAD?!!!! Today is July 3rd 2022. I have a vehicle claim that started back in January 2022 and has been nothing but a headache since. Claims advisor has not once contacted us even though Intact has told me on several occasions that she would. I have reached out many times to her by email and phone messages and have still heard nothing. Our rental car needed to be extended due to the delay from Intact in getting our vehicle repaired. 3 months later we find out the rental car hadn't been fully paid for by Intact and was therefore put on MY CREDIT CARD. Over, the now 5 months since my initial claim I have called Intact directly many many times. Each time being reassured it was being taken care of and that someone would contact me in a couple of days. Yet I still have not heard from anyone and the bill has not been taken care of. I have asked each time I've called, to speak to a supervisor but each time they refuse to put me through to a supervisor due to "proper protocols" needing to be followed. This kind of service is despicable especially with the amount we pay for insurance. They owe me over $900.00 from an unpaid rental car bill. What do we pay a deductible for if we are the ones doing all the leg work...for 5 months?! read more

My son bought a SUV and insured it with Intact through PC broker. Five months later a tree fell on his car. It took 5 days for him to receive a response from Intact. This is a recurring theme, Intact often waits 5 days before responding to his emails, and he has never been able to get a human on the phone. The mechanic told him it would be repaired so he left some personal items that he didn't need right away in the vehicle. A month later, Intact confirmed it would be repaired. They then had the car transferred to another chain of the mechanic an hour away to be repaired because the local mechanic was backlogged. This new mechanic found another $500 damage, so now Intact won't be fixing it. They're going to write it off. Now my son, who hasn't had a vehicle for 6 weeks, (and hasn't been looking for one because his was supposed to be fixed), is supposed to find a ride an hour away to get his stuff out of the car. They also only offered him what he owes on the car, not what it will cost to replace it, which would leave him without a down payment for a new car. Why say you'll fix it, haul it an hour away, then change your mind for $500 extra? And why wouldn't you pay him the market value? Now he has to search online for identical vehicles to show them what the car is actually worth to replace! It's been 6 weeks! Either fix it, or give him what it's worth! My other son and I were both considering switching our policies, but that isn't happening now! I'd rather pay an extra $10 a month and have an insurance company that cares! read more

Was involved in a not-at-fault accident with injuries. Claim adjudication for the car repair was excellent - claim adjudication for the injuries is awful, unfair, done in bad faith and proves that their word isn't worth the paper it's written on. They cause extreme hardship and not even bother to respond to the lawyer, just waiting on a tribunal date months down the road hoping that you are so much cornered by that time that you will accept their ridiculous settlement intentions. read more

Warning on getting a rental car/waiting for a service inspection I was told two different things from different customer service representatives. Before going to pick up my rental car, I called into Customer Server to check that even if the work was not covered, that Intact would pay for the rental car for the delay period before the Intact inspector went to go and assess the vehicle. Being assured by your Customer Service representative was the only reason I went to go and get the rental Car. I was told that the car would be covered until the Intact inspector could go and see the vehicle, as there was a 3 day delay. When they went, my dealership called me to tell me that the work was not covered. I did not get a call from Intact to confirm this until 5 business days later. On this call, they told me the rental car was not covered by Intact nor were the repairs. Good thing that my dealership had my back and warned me to go and return the car, so that I only had it for 1 day, as they knew that Intact would not cover. I think it is pretty disappointing that the Customer Service rep that I spoke to told me that they would cover the rental car until my vehicle was assessed, because it is not drivable. I would advise that you align your service department on your own policies, so that this does not happen again in the future. read more

Also a dissatisfied client due to ridiculous cancelation fees. Canceled 10 days after renewal because I found a much cheaper rate. Was charged 1.5 months payment just to cancel. My wife who was with Belairdirect canceled her insurance and was not charged a penny. Do your homework before signing on with this company. Hopefully if enough people leave lousy reviews maybe they will rethink how they do business. read more
