There are so many different activities and play features for kids to choose from. I was especially impressed by the sensory-friendly and inclusive features throughout the park. They have a communication board as well as a large basket/nest swing that provides more space and support than a traditional playground swing. I really appreciate parks that think about children with different sensory, communication, and mobility needs while still creating a space that's fun for everyone. Thompson Park definitely did that. Such a great park for families, and we'll definitely be back!

This park recently went through a remodel, and it has been a hit ever since! The playground…read morereceived a complete renovation and now features one of the tallest attractions at an Indy park. There are slides, swings, climbing areas, and plenty of fun options for kids of different ages. Right next to the playground is a shelter area that we rented for my son's graduation party. The rental was around $150 for the day, and we booked it easily through the Indy Parks website. One thing to note is that some people may not realize the shelter is reserved, so we had a few people try to use it during our event. We printed out our reservation confirmation to have proof that it was paid for and reserved. The shelter has four large picnic tables and a grill, which worked well for our gathering. The biggest downside is that there is no electricity and no restroom nearby, which was disappointing considering the rental price. Having those amenities would make the space much more convenient for larger events. The park also has a remodeled basketball court and a trail area for walking or enjoying the outdoors. There is a smaller parking lot, and during busy times some visitors park along the grass. This was a decent venue for my son's grad party. I just wish the shelter included electricity and closer restroom access for the price.

Updating my review, because McCarty Triangle Park has been given a drastic glow-up since I last…read morereviewed it three years ago. The playground has been updated, the basketball courts have been widened to a full court instead of a half court, and a picnic shelter and grill have been installed for the community to use. This little park is so much better than it was before! The playground is also so much better, and is now a lot more inclusive than it once was. One of my favorite features is the Cliff Rider, which is a long pole that kids can climb onto and launch themselves from one side of the playground structure to the other. You have to see it to understand! It sounds kind of dangerous, but it's actually not, and it's a fun way for kids to test their boundaries in a safe space. There's also a ring to spin around on, a rope climbing tower, multiple swings (including a "you and me" swing where caregivers can swing with their children) and lots more. The playground is designed for kids ages 5-12. In my last review, I mentioned that this isn't necessarily a "destination" park. But if you happen to be in the area, it's not a bad place to play. However, sometimes even the smallest pocket parks end up holding a special place in your heart, for multiple reasons (or even just a singular reason). That's the case for me with McCarty Triangle Park. This is a special little place.

One of the rims is even missing the nets. The playground area is lined with soggy wood chips and has limited equipment. There is a traditional/toddler swing set and a large accesible jungle gym with pull up bars and slides. The equipment is adequate, but definitely shows signs of wear. You can find pockets of green space at this park, but it is right in the middle of a neighborhood and surrounded by streets on all sides. This park does not have a designated parking lot. There is a lot of parking available on the streets surrounding the park though. This park is ok if you live nearby and can walk to it. It is definitely not a park that i would drive to. There is a lot of money being put into some of the city parks recently. Hopefully, this park will see some of that money.

Some of the picnics tables are falling apart, there is trash everywhere, the parking lot has huge pot holes, and one pavilion looks like it was the set of one of the Hangover movies. This park is one of the worst maintained that I have seen. The grass is cut, but that is about it. The park has a huge parking area, divided between a couple of lots. There are some basket ball goals in an area, but are set up in an odd arrangement that do not allow full court. There is a playground area there. It is lined with wood chips and has the older style swings, and some toddler swings. There is also two jungle gyms and a couple of slides. The playground is accesible, but the equipment is aged. The park also has a decent restroom facility, a disc golf course, and a fitness area. There are also 3 covered pavilions with picnic tables and grills that you can rent. The pavilions, however, are trashed. They are full of garbage and just plain nasty. The bright spots of the park are the aquatic center, the huge grassy fields, and the walking/jogging trail. The fields can be used for soccer, playing catch, flag football, flying a kite, or just throwing a blanket down and relaxing. There was a lot of people walking on the trail while I was there. The trail is pretty long and goes around the park in a circle. This park was in bad shape and in need of some serious help. Outside of the trail and field I do not see much utility for the park. This park has a lot of potential and if the park's issues are corrected then it would be a great place to visit. As it is now, the park is mehhhh, and I would probably visit another park, even if it was a bit further.

This park is amazing. I am surprised that it does not have more reviews. It is a well kept secret I…read moreguess. I had never heard of it before my visit. The park dates back to 1921 when 40 of its 64 acres were donated to the City by Wilmer and Edna Christian in memory of Wilmar's mother. The park is a bit aged, but has everything I look for in a park. It is also conveniently located right off of the Pleasant Run Trail. The park has three distinct sections and a ton of parking available between its 4 lots and street parking. The park can be accessed from many different ways. One area of the park, near the front, has a couple of baseball fields that have definitely seen better days. It is pretty worn and not well maintained. Across the street at the main part of the park is a couple of ball fields that are in even worse condition than the ones in the baseball complex across the street. There is a lot of green space in this section as well, that is suitable for activities such as playing catch, throwing a freesbee, a soccer game, a football game or having a picnic. You will find three tennis courts in the section as well. They are a bit rough, but would still work if you want a quick match. There is a shelter with picnic tables under it and grills just out side of it. The shelter can be rented and are in fair shape. It has remnants of parties past still there. Streamers were all over it. I almost thought it was police tape. There are two full basketball courts that are very nice. I almost had to lace them up and throw a few down. Other amenities in the area include a nice splash pad and playground. The splash pad has benches around its perimeter to sit. The playground is on a bed of wood chips and has some relatively new equipment that includes a bank of traditional/toddler swings, a pyramid net climber, and a huge jungle gym with a rock climbing wall, pebble bridge, a web net climber, a bunch of slides, bridges, monkey bars, and a bongo. It is a very nice jungle gym. I was impressed. The large building that you see in this section is the family center. I do not know if it is still operating (But I believe it is). It was closed while I was there. This is the section that has the largest of the park's parking lots (there are 2 lots in this section). The third section has a decent football field, with goal post on each end. It appears well maintained. This section also has a shelter with picnic tables under it. It is better than the shelter in the other section but could still use some love. It can also be rented. You will find a another playground in this section. It has much older equipment. It has a smaller jungle gym with monkey bars, parallel bars, bridges, tunnels and a few slides, a bank of toddler swings, a bank of traditional swings, old school monkey bars, parallel bars and big blue arch that I have no idea what it is. This is a hidden gem. It offers a ton to do. I did not however, find a restroom facility though. It is relatively well maintained, even though I saw a lot of trash on the grounds near the shelter. It has a paved trail through it that can be linked with the adjoining Pleasant Run Trail to give you a nice long hike. Yes, some of the park could use some upgrades, but it still works well. This is a destination park that I highly recommend checking out. You could easily spend a half day or more here, especially during the summer.

It does have a paved path to walk and a little area to do calisthenics type of exercise off the path. But, it is more like a sidewalk than a park path or trail, or somewhere I'd want to go for a walk. And, it was riddled with litter (not too bad, but consistent); but, it appears to be a very popular park, so the amount I saw want excessive for the traffic. Maybe more trash bins would help. This park looks like it makes a lot of families very happy. The basketball courts were definitely my draw!

It's not a park that I'd have gone out looking for, however, I was on the southside resolving some errands and, quite honestly, got lost coming back. I looked over at one point and there was Orange Park. So, I stopped to check it out. Orange Park is definitely a neighborhood park with a relatively small playground, some benches, some green space, and that's about it. You can find parking along the street, but this is far from a destination park with nothing else to really do. Orange Park was established in 1993. It did receive an upgraded playground in 2024, though it tends to be pretty modest even after the upgrade. This park is a one-acre park. It's a little bigger than a pocket park, but not by a whole lot. The park is on the Southeastside of Indy. The park's playground targets kids aged 2-12. There's definitely nothing for teens here. For what it is, Orange Park is perfectly fine. There's no reason to go out of your way to visit it. However, it serves its purpose for those who live in this area.

There are a few pullover spaces along the street for convenient parking if you are headed eastbound. The park's south perimeter is lined with mature trees for shade, but the park itself doesn't have any shade by the play areas. There are some benches, but no shelter is available. The playground has a few remaining pieces including a small fort, some swings, and a climbing structure. As I moved around the park, I could see timbers remaining from some forgotten purpose that had the equipment removed and has become reclaimed by the lawn. Although there isn't a lot to draw visitors here currently, it is hoped that as the area becomes home to more younger people wanting to live near Fountain Square, the park will get some needed attention to make it an asset for the neighborhood. There is a dirt parking area with more than ample space to park. The play area is on old wood chips and is completely fenced in and has a small kid area to the right, called the Tot Lot, that consists of a mock wooden Indy car and motorcycle, a bank of toddler/ADA swings, a sand pit, a small wooden jungle gym with slides, a bench and a picnic table. The other side of the play area is for bigger kids and consists of monkey rings, rock climbing walls, a huge wooden jungle gym with slides and a bridge, big tires, a mock wooden ship, a wooden suspended pebble bridge, a net bridge, a teetering floor, a tire swing, and a bank of ADA and traditional swings. You will also see an open space in the area in the front right. The playground equipment appears a bit aged and weathered, but is well maintained. The park also has a shelter behind it located outside of the fence with picnic tables under it and a grill outside of it. There is also a lone picnic table sitting right outside the front entrance of the play area. You will find the park across the street from the Central Indiana Girl Scouts Headquarters and next to Ben Davis High School's run-down baseball complex. I should also note that the playground is right down the street from the Indiana Women's prison (only separated by the baseball complex) and they are within sight of each other. I do not see that as being a major issue as the inmates are detained behind a fence and have other issues to worry about than a playground. I like this spot. This is a cute little playground, but not a destination spot by any means. It is a place that you hit if you live nearby or are in the area. I does not get a lot of traffic, which I believe is primarily due to its location. It is a nice playground though and your littles will like it a lot.
