If I could give this restaurant zero or negative stars, I would, because they do not deserve any…read morestars for the most awful and horrendous dining experience we've ever had. Let me just emphasize by saying that dining in a takeaway or a fast-food joint is considered fine dining compared to eating at this restaurant. I'd booked this restaurant based on vibrant professional pictures of its food and great reviews for a birthday celebration and taking my elderly parents for a meal out to celebrate my birthday. Upon arrival, we found this restaurant to be dark and narrow with dirty, greasy windows and dust all over the colorful lights. We were greeted by a young lady who possibly hadn't showered or washed her hair and body in days as she was reeking with the smell of unwashed hair and BO. There was absolutely no ambiance to this restaurant to speak of, and we didn't get a sense of cleanliness or attention to any detail. We were seated and as my parents enjoy Lebanese / middle eastern food I was hopeful that their food may make up for the awful first impressions and redeem itself. Alas, I was wrong and in hindsight, we should have just walked out. We sat down and ordered a bunch of appetizers and our main meals. The starters and our drinks came out ok, albeit being delivered with an added smell of sweat from the lady serving us. At one point, I felt nauseated from getting a whiff of her moving around but I let it pass. She then proceeded to bring two of the meals out and put them down and then asked what we had ordered again! which was shocking as she was the one taking our order to begin with! My mother had ordered the cod which was listed on their menu and after she had served two out of the four dishes already, proceeded to say ...."oh sorry we don't have cod we have shrimp or seabass". If an item that is listed on your menu is out, you mention that when you are taking the orders, not when you are serving the food to two out of the four guests. Usually in any normal restaurant, food for the table is served all at once so people can enjoy eating together. My mom said she'd like the seabass; she went off to the kitchen. We waited, waited, waited... drank our drinks, ordered more drinks... waited and waited while the other two dishes got cold. When we enquired where the other two dishes are and when they are getting served, she came by to say the other two main meals are coming out in 5 mins... then another 5 minutes... after 35 minutes past serving two of the four dishes, the other two main meals hadn't come out yet! There was one person in their kitchen dealing with the food who was not Lebanese trying to cook / fake cook Lebanese dishes but failing miserably at that too. The smelly lady kept giving excuses that they only have one cook in the kitchen and that is why the main meals for the other two dishes take so long. I found her excuses unacceptable. Nothing justifies or excuses this kind of service at any restaurant. If a restaurant is open and is taking reservations, then they should be prepared to serve a decent food and service. It is not my concern how many cooks or chefs you have in the kitchen, but whoever is in charge should be prepared to properly serve if every seat in the house is filled up. This place couldn't even cope with 4 main meals and delivering them together all at once! Let me just say that I can't unsee what I experienced at this restaurant and this place goes down as the most terrible experience in the history of eating out. I would not recommend eating at this restaurant for any reason, unless you enjoy eating amongst dirt, sweat and unwashed people circling around. I don't want anyone else experiencing what we just endured and have a ruined day / special occasion celebration. Utterly disgraceful!

I'd heard about…read moreJeita from the manager at the hotel I was staying at, who sung its praises, so I thought I'd stop by and grab a bite to tide me over. It was well after the lunch rush, and before folks started showing up for dinner, so I had the restaurant to myself. I looked over the menu, and decided that I wanted their hommos schwarma starter. After I had ordered it, I changed my mind, and felt I really wanted the spicier version of their hommos instead, the hommos Beiruty. They ended up giving me both, charging me for one, and provided loads of pita. I was looking for a snack, but this was turning into a meal! Anyway, I mentioned that I really enjoyed ayrans, a salted yogurt drink common to the Mideast, and asked if they could make one (it wasn't on the menu). The cook said he most certainly could, and had his own special recipe. Wow. They were not only providing a fairly cheap meal, but also a special drink not even on the menu! Anyway, both plates of hommos were tasty, especially the hommos Beiruty. The ayran, however, was in a class all to itself: it was singularly the best ayran I'd ever had in my life! I finished it, and they came by and filled up another glass (free of charge, no less). I walked out for 16 pounds, and had a bunch of leftovers! I regret with my activities this week that I could not stop by again. But I told folks I knew here all about it. Well worth a visit if you're in Guildford, even for the day.

The final straw…read more... My family and I have been going to to this restaurant since it opened. The food was great as was the service so we continually returned. But over the last few years the good staff left, the gentleman owner became over bearing and intrusive, table confusions, empty plates / rubbish not cleared up in a timely manner and service was slow, even if the restaurant was practically empty... The final straw came when we booked a table for 8 people for our very special family occasion, of which two members had travelled in from abroad, which they do so once a year and we managed to get everyone together for the first time in a long time. We asked for the big table by the window, by the front door and this was confirmed to us. We were even called on the day of our booking to reconfirm that we were still coming, which we confirmed and also confirmed about the specific table we booked and staff confirmed that this was all ok and booked for us. When we got the the restaurant we saw that our requested table was not free and was currently being used by a Asian family of over 10 people, eating the duck course, so they had not even had their mains yet. We spoke to the staff and they said that their other staff member gave our table away! Even though we booked in advance AND even though they phoned us on the day of our booking to confirm as above. The staff said they could make up a table for us, which would be disjointed tables and sorry, that is not good enough as that is not what we booked! We have had random tables slapped together before which was not inclusive to certain family members, leaving some of us isolated from our family on another table.. not ideal and not what we wanted to do again. We wanted the table we booked and confirmed in advance and again on the day when the restaurant called us! We looked around at the other tables and we saw miserable faces, which I would guess was from people still waiting for their food which they ordered quite some time ago...some which I have experienced for myself in the past on a few occasions regardless of the restaurant was full or not...staff looking flustered and on a sinking ship. An empty table was full of discarded pancake basket containers, drinks glasses and plates. We turned around, left and went elsewhere. Fortunately another Chinese restaurant were able to fit us in last minuet and were extremely accommodating. Especially on such a special occasion, which was tainted and spoilt by Forbidden City!

It can get crowded so it may be advisable to book in advance. On the downside when it gets busy the kitchen is rather slow and you might have to wait some time for your food.
