I loved that in spite of the chilly 40 degree temps, patrons were sitting at benches outside with blankets provided by the bar enjoying their drinks. When we arrived it was 10:45 and when we asked as we sat down when they closed, the young bartender told us they closed at 11pm, but would let us know when last call came around. We ordered a couple of lovely German reds and proceeded to enjoy another hour or so of conversation and another glass of wine. Finally at nearly midnight we hear last call. While we didn't partake, we watched the the bartenders putting together lovely plates of charcuterie and cheese with bread. As we'd just had dinner, we just couldn't eat another bite, but it all looked so good. They had a great selection of wines and friendly service.

Vineria da Angelo is a small, cozy and "hidden" Italian restaurant in Poppelsdorf with a lovely…read moreterrace. In my experience there, even though the staff has always been nice and friendly, the service has always been very slow. It takes almost half an hour for them to serve drinks. I even witnessed a young couple leaving as no one actually paid attention to them on a Friday night. Moreover, the drinks such as beer, which are supposed to be cold, are often served warm or "not cold enough". In terms of food, mini-bruschettas served at the beginning taste really good and signal you are going to eat high quality food here. I really like beef carpaccio and mushroom-filled raviolis. Also, wine selection is quite rich. Still, I believe the portions a little small compared to prices. I would say that overall Vineria de Angelo is a nice place to eat good quality Italian food yet its slow service and bad price/performance ratio render the place "just another Italian restaurant" in Bonn. Even though I believe it is the best Italian restaurant in Poppelsdorf, it is good for a casual lunch and dinner, but not for special days.

In fact they are probably butcher-sized (not that I have found any pubs in Australia that actually serve butchers). I actually quite like these small beers, though for some reason I would prefer a little more. Anyway, this bar is pretty much dedicated to the guy that geeks the world over love and admire. In fact, if you are a geek, and you are in Cologne then this is a bar that you should check out. I knew about it, but didn't actually know where it was, that is until I was wandering through the back alleys of the old city and discovered it. Okay, it isn't hugely geeky, it just has a heap of pictures of Einstein covering the wall, but it's still pretty cool.
