You'll end up with a yard that is actually going to get mowed more than once every 2-3 weeks, no notices to cut the grass because you're in violation of city ordinances and you'll have a quality mower for years to come. Do not use this company! We paid $500 up front on Nov 14, 2019 to cover 10 snow removals. If we did not need 10, the remaining amount would be used for grass cutting. Mild winter, we had 3 removals of snow yet when I contacted Shawn to start grass cutting, he claimed we used 10 snow removals and included the day he picked up the check ( no snow reported,) We kept precise records. He sent a copy of snow removals written on a copy of a bogus contract we never signed and listed snow removals on dates there was no snow recorded by KCRG. This company is dishonest and a scam. I have copies of what we signed and what he sent. We will take this to small claims court. For your own well being, do not deal with Behrends under any circumstance. I hired Shawn to clean up leaves in my yard. We had a family member in the hospital and just needed some help while we were spending all of our time in the ICU. He showed up in 20 minutes to pick up my check, but for the next three+ weeks, he always promised he'd be there "soon" but NEVER showed up. After three weeks of being told, "Today" I finally just said, please give me a refund and we'll do it ourselves. In my book, he stole from us. It's unfortunate, because we just wanted help during a tough time for our family and I feel like he took advantage of that. Please be warned if you are thinking about hiring Shawn. Quit's halfway through jobs when he has a disagreement with client and keeps the money given up front. Drives like a madman to get to job sites and ignores traffic laws. A Con Artist! Do not give him your money! We pre-paid for work for the summer. His contract indicated he would service our lawn each week. He has only been out twice since the start of the summer and has done a terrible job. We are moving forward with legal action against this company and reporting them to the Better Business Bureau. Please let me know if you have had a similar experience and would like to join our case. My husband and I are big advocates of supporting small businesses in Iowa but this guy is ruining that type of economy. His contract indicates we have to provide written notice 2 months in advanced to terminate, so basically the sum we paid him for the entire summer. Extremely unethical! DO NOT PAY HALF DOWN ON ANY SERVICE...EVER! My husband mistakenly did this without me knowing. Shawn never showed up for the work he promised to do the week he texted my husband. I have the texts to prove it. I asked for our money back. He said he would have the work done the following week. I was tired of waiting and read the abd reviews. He said we would have to write a letter for his company to review as to why we want our money back, and they would make a decision in 60 days. We didn't sign a contract, and his "company" is just him. He has you pay up front because he has no money himself. He blocked me because I said he is a fraud and stealing from us. I called the CRPD, and the officer called Shawn to give us our money back. Shawn got us OUR money that day after talking with the police. Why does it have to go that far? I am not impressed with him texting.my husband that we are on the schedule that week and never shoeing up or texting my husband an update. Needless to say, we got a reputable company to do the work for us with NO MONEY PAID UP FRONT and it ended up being less than this trailer park backyard business. We also prepaid $1000 in April, for mowing to start in May. They mowed three times in May, once in June, twice in July and once in August. It has now been over four weeks and they haven't shown up. Absolutely do not use these people! We are the laughing stock of our neighborhood, for prepaying. Maybe if they only got paid after they mowed they would come every week. Please read the negative reviews. We wish we had so hopefully this will help people. All of the issues mentioned in the negative reviews happened to us. The owner was very aggressive in getting the job. Multiple text messages and visits. Seemed very interested in making us happy. Send contracts via texts that were shady and on the fly. We asked for signed paper contracts and he did not want to do that. Once we agreed at $2950, he asked for half the money up front ($1475). Then we had a hard time getting them to show up. Multiple text messages were sent. They showed up for a day, did some cleaning, dumped rock. Then disappeared. Sent multiple messages and were told the plants and shrubs are being acquired and that we were a priority. Then we were told that after further review, the price agreed to was too low to begin with. And finally we were told that either we pay more or they will not be finishing work as discussed as they've already done the work for the amount taken. When told this was unacceptable, they were rude, would not pick up phone, would only text and asked us to go ahead and report them to whomever we wanted to as we would be wasting our time. Told them we would be reaching out to the BBB, they said good luck as they are a member too. Have also seen multiple reviews that they have done this to many other people, especially older people. People should definitely be aware of their business practices. Also one last thing, you can tell a lot about a business and how they view their customers by how they respond to negative reviews. I hired Shawn at the end of July to mow my lawn weekly for 20 weeks. He asked for payment up front and told me that people do not bill monthly for lawn service. Being new to Iowa, I assumed he was right and I gave him the cash up front. Since July 23rd he has been out to mow my lawn a total of three times in a 10-week period. His excuse is always that the contract states whether permitting. However, according to the weather channel we have had eight days of rain in that time frame. When you text him for a day that he will be coming out, he will tell you within the next day or two and then that never happens, even if the weather is good. Please don't make the mistake that I did and trust this guy. He delivers very poor service. My lawn is now a foot tall and I have had two neighbors come and talk to me about it. I am totally embarrassed. I am a disabled widow, which is why I hired a lawn service, and I feel that Shawn totally took advantage of me. read more

If I could put zero stars I would. Do not waste your money here. He will rip you off. We paid for 15 mows in the middle of June which would equate to once a week through the rest of September. He came once on June 19th. Next Time was two weeks later on July 3rd. His excuse for not coming for 14 days was rain for 5 days in that 2 weeks period slowed him down. I decided to let it go and hope he would change my opinion about him and his company. And it is now July 24th and he hasn't been back. Literally 3 weeks! Our yard is horrible. This time the excuse Is the warm weather is burning up the grass but let me tell you, it is not. Our lawn is long. We work a lot and can not mow in a timely manner so we paid a company to do what we were not around for. Well, mowing once a month is definitely something we could have handled. And it would have been free. If you try talking to him about when he will be there next he will tell you the next two days and then not follow through. He has done this 3 times to me now.
