The Emily Program used to be a great program but they have significantly gone downhill over the…read moreyears. They are quick to push residential and day treatment on patients who don't need it to get more insurance reimbursement. That was the crux of their "new clinical model" which rolled out the end of 2017 (Google it, it was a mess). Towards the end of 2017 the company dropped hundreds of outpatients very callously and abruptly. Many patients were actively struggling with eating disorders but if they refused to funnel money into the Emily Program's higher level of care services they were dropped. It was straight up medical abandonment. Also many of their staff are entry level and poorly trained. Eating disorders are severe life threatening illnesses and putting untrained and unqualified staff in charge of intensive programming is irresponsible. Lots of staff are fresh out of college and the Emily Program is their first job. I've been to many eating disorder treatment centers over the years and the Emily Program has the most unqualified and inexperienced staff by far. I'm assuming they do this because they can pay young and inexperienced staff a lot less money, but it completely drains the quality of care. They push higher levels of care on clients and then don't even staff them appropriately. They are really big on marketing and patient recruitment, but the actual care here is below industry standard. Go to Melrose if you need help. Program is much more ethical and the staff are much better trained.

I came to the Emily Program in 2016 after being very sick in the hospital. While I did learn some…read moreskills, as a male they failed me. I had to come from two and a half hours away so I couldn't drive back and forth so I needed to find a place to stay. They have living arrangements available but only for women because the request from males don't happen very often. I was offered no help in finding accommodations and had to pay a lot more. If you look at their website, you will see things about new apartments being used making it sound like it is for everyone but it's very misleading. To make things worse, one of the group therapies was a book based on a woman's perspective called "Eating in the Light of the Moon." I asked for a different option for me and they had a hard time finding anything. I was actively relapsing during the IOP at my apartment and openly talked about it in group but they never seemed to address it. Transitioning out of the program, there was a huge lack of communication where there were things I didn't know about, which caused embarrassment and anxiety. I had requested to sit down with some people there to talk about my issues and feelings after I was done but never got a call or anything. Overall, I was hurt by how I was treated there. Almost immediately being done, I relapsed and was afraid to seek out treatment for three years. As a male, it is hard to admit you even have an eating disorder to begin with but then to get treatment that you can't relate to and can't get access to because of your sex its really hard.

Also, the guy in billing, DAVE, loves to argue and say things like "I only give the energy I receive from you" or "I didn't want to have to do this, but you actually CAN get into your portal so you lied". what customer service is that??! I have been a client for over 2 years and he mentioned 2 dates I've "been in my portal" and one was the date I signed paperwork to start 2 years ago and the other I needed a walkthrough with Melissa (front desk girl) 4 months ago. I keep getting lectured for not knowing how to access my portal and apparently he insists on punishing me for it. And I was billed 2x randomly without a heads up or warning. I had to actually pause my credit card and leash that money-grubbing "finance guy" , DAVE, to stop charging a full-time student because he refuses to honor a payment plan! My mental health, the ENTIRE reason I'm here, is lessoned by talking to these bozos. Get someone nicer than DAVE in billing

As for service, care has been tailored towards my family's individual needs and has really helped to address the issues we're working on. Therapy doesn't feel like a chore, probably because of warm connection and being treated like a real person and not a number with compassion.
