This place prides itself of having American beer, and it does fulfill the promise. I do wonder how they could manage to import all of those, but I am not the kind of person who questions thing in a beer bar, I just drink them beer :) We came here on a Saturday at 8pm, without any reservation (could you reserve a place?) worrying that we might not get a seat since we were four, but it turned out a table cleared out right before we came in so we had great timing. I got some really nice stout from Evil Twin and I was happy about it since Evil Twin's stouts are the best thing ever imho. The world needs more Evil Twins! and since it's getting colder and darker, what's more appropriate than drinking stouts? I highly recommend this place for anyone who loves American beer. read more

Liked this spot! It can get super busy because it's in a beer tour so lots of people stop by. They have a bunch of beers on tap, many of them American style or from American breweries. There are also a ton of bottles to choose from if you like. I tried a creme brûlée stout which was excellent. It's a fun stop! read more

Well, the thing that sort of stood out here was that the bar tender really didn't seem to be in a chatty mood, but I'll forgive that simply because we happened to be here at the tail on of a massive Amsterdam Street party so no doubt they have been off their feet for quite a while so they were probably worn out with how busy it was, and since this place appears as the number two go to spot on the Yelp list of beer bars in Amsterdam not doubt this place would have been incredibly busy over the last couple of days. Anyway, it is a craft beer bar, American style. In fact all they serve is American beers, and not actually being American it is actually quite cool to have the opportunity to try some American craft beers. Mind you, like most of these places, there are so many beers it is nigh impossible to try every one of them, and in my case it was only just one. Very cool beer bar in the heart of the Amsterdam city center, replete with an amazing American craft list. About 20 or so taps of draft as well as quite a few more bottles. They also stock a good variety of Mikkeller, one of the finest European beers ever. Cool outdoor seating area if the weather happens to be nice, as well. Highly recommended. read more

Hands down the best place in Amsterdam if you're homesick for a hop-heavy headrush. I first found this place in 2011 and tried one of the most interesting, memorable beers of my life (a BrewDog limited "IPA is Dead" series called Sorachi Ace - it tasted like hoppy bubblegum if there was anyway to describe this trippy beer). I returned to Beer Temple this year (2013) and again quenched my thirst for a IPA or two. Be warned, this place is appropriately expensive for all craft imports. Good beer selection, about 1/3 American. Good European beer selection too, including Italian beers that my Italian friend never heard of! The prices will definitely set you back a bit, but if you need something awesome, or really are just so damn sick of Heineken, this is a great place to check out. It gets packed pretty quickly on the weekends so get there early! This is a great place to stop in and have some American craft beer. With 30+ taps and a seemingly never ending list of bottle selections, you have many beers to choose from; some of them being beers that we couldn't even find at home. For example: we live in Virginia and cannot get our hands on Wicked Weed (a NC brewery), but they had Wicked Weed bottles at this bar. The same bartender was there on both occasions that we went. We went twice within our stay, because we really like the bar and the service. He was very friendly and even remembered us when we came in four days after our first visit (and acknowledged us - always a sign of a great bartender) We definitely recommend visiting! read more

Isn't it always? Well, regardless it's a cozy little bar to hang out in though I pictured it as much larger. There is a lower area and an upper area. It can get crowded quickly and go from quiet to loud very fast. Seeing as it's located where it is I'd call it a tourist bar especially since the menu of beers is vast. All the selections are written on the chalkboards on the back wall, side wall and front walls. It's hard to know where to start. If you don't know you can always ask one of the friendly bartenders to recommend one or more to try out. Enjoy! read more

I know Amsterdam is known for being a place to go to "legally" smoke weed, but it's a great city for beer. I was wandering around the city completely jetlagged, looking for a place to relax and get a beer or two, and this place came up in a few online lists of best bars for beer in Amsterdam. I can't disagree. They had a huge chalkboard filled with beers from all over the world (mostly American) that they served in bottles, then a board with their 20 or so beers on draught. They had American beers that I hadn't even heard of, and I'm a) an American and b) a craft beer lover. Besides that, the bartender (and some other guy who was somehow involved with the place) were very cool and eager to talk beer with me. They were also helpful and forthcoming in allowing me to try all kinds of different beers. I had a good time just hanging out and talking to these folks. I don't know anything about their food, but in terms of a great low key place to unwind and try out some craft beers, this place is great. read more

I have been coming to Amsterdam for over a year for business trips. On about my 9th trip over I finally found this place. As a resident of Philadelphia, I often times take for granted the amazing beer selection we have there. In the Netherlands, there are many places you can get Belgian style ales and pilsners. If you want a good Imperial IPA or Stout (Micro Brews), you are usually out of luck. Not so at the Beer Temple. Come to Beer temple if you want the american style beers you take for granted back home. I love that US beer is of some renown here, truly people need to see the amazing variety that the US has to offer during its beer renaissance outside of Budweiser and miller. This place has an immense selection of the best stuff from both coasts, Colorado and Michigan. We came from Denver, CO. After touring Germany and Belgium this was a nice oasis to have American beers we can't get in Colorado. The staff and fellow tourists were fun and informative of our travels. We were directed to a nearby bottle shop to pickup some Belgian Trappist beers we can rarely get in the states. It's an odd thought to go all the way from the US to Amsterdam to go to an American bar. Do your self a favor though, and go here. They have so many craft beers from all over the world, and the bartenders are very knowledgeable. Even if you don't know an IPA from a stout, they can help you figure out which one you like. My only critique is that beers are on the pricier side, which makes this more of a stop-in and try than a stay all night. read more
