To quote Wikipedia "alcohol laws of Missouri are among the most permissive in the United States. Missouri is known throughout the Midwest for its largely laissez-faire approach to alcohol regulation". Strange neighbors, but a welcome sight. Even better, this isn't some desperation depot of overpriced county line hooch. They carry a wide range of craft beers, high quality wines, Scotch, and top shelf liquors. Apparently they contract with distilleries to offer some award-winning seasonal private label bourbon. Employees are very friendly, helpful and know their stuff in every department. Regularly carry "gift packs" and hard to find items. The line moves quickly, a TJ Maxx style sign alerts you to the next open register to get you out the door. Approved!

Last night's take out order was a complete opposite of our previous visit. (I could not find an updated menu online and so had to resort to a spur of the moment alternative as I blundered and stammered my way through an order on the phone.). We were told 20 minutes. We arrived well within that parameter and still had to wait another 25 minutes before our food was ready. While waiting, I think my husband managed to memorize the entire inventory of the variety of alcohol displayed on the shelves. Apparently in the cooking process the cook hadn't timed the cooking of the hamburgers with the cooking of the shoestring potatoes resulting in cold burgers as well as cold fries. As my husband observed, the wait staff consisted of one cook and one person at the counter. We weren't the only folks waiting on an order, as people outside were waiting on a pizza that flopped miserably in the oven and was a do-over. Friendly service and a talented buyer keep this place interesting. I was quite impressed by their beer selection. Not huge (unless you need a 60 pack of "Whatever-makes-you-pee-Ice" from the immense beer cooler) but has a few surprises! Thanks to a helpful clerk I recently scored a healthy supply of Victory- Dirt Wolf and Golden Monkey on deep deep deep (and I do mean legitimately deep meaningful) clearance!! Look for the clearance cart when available. Recently some nice stuff from Goose Island, Sierra Nevada, Victory, Boulevard, and others. I won't get your hopes up, the selection is not huge but better than most others in the region. They also have a full selection of wine and spirits.
