I have been a customer of there's for over 10 years. But never again will I refer or come back to this place. Yesterday I called them to ask if they had time to put some line on my reels. I drove 30 minutes to get there. When I got there, Mark starting complaining about his health, which I felt bad and told him "I'll just drop them off and come back later". I called them this morning and spoke to Tina, she told me " they are ready". When I got there they couldn't find my reels. I was then surprised with my reels had never been worked on. My best friend and I have spent thousands of dollars at this store over the past two years. Personally I've dropped $800 on one setup. My friend recently purchased a $250 Phenix rod from them. After getting it home and putting his reel on, he realized the reel seat was not aligned with the guides. He called, they said come down. Upon arrival he was told there was nothing they could do other than send it back to the factory. They sold a faulty item and refused to exchange it. My friend even offered to cover the difference for an upgrade. We will be taking our business elsewhere from now on. I'd rather drive to Ventura and get legitimate customer service. Place is a joke! Been a customer for years and every time I return to the business I regret my decision every time! Worst customer service , mark the owner only cares about high dollar sales he'll spend 2 hours with you if you want to buy a reel but make you stand in the corner of his shop for 2 hrs if you want line on your reel! Amazing amount of stock. This little store has everything for literally any kind of fishing. Went in with my son and picked up a pole and reel same day we were going fishing. That were so nice, set me up fast, spooled the reel with ghost line and gave us great advice. We had an epic day casting out past the waves. I read some of these other negative reviews and laugh. This is the epitome of a Mom and Pop shop. I guess some people think if you spend a few dollars in a store they should worship the ground you walk on. Why don't you go open a local fishing store and see how you react servicing the public. Nobody on the central coast has the inventory these guys do, including box stores. This store is the Lighting Joes Guitar Heaven of fishing. We are so lucky to have them available to us. I should have paid attention to some of these reviews when I visited this store 6 weeks ago. I purchased some items in-store and requested they place an order for an item that was out of stock. They said they would right away, took my number and never called me back. I called them twice to check on the order. Both times they just told me that they have not ordered it yet.... really!!!, Six weeks later and you just don't care about serving a customer who wants to support you as a small business.... pathetic!! Based off my own experience, I had a very informative helpful time in the shop. I am completely new to the world of fishing and Mark helped me out tremendously. I brought in a rod and he helped take the time to set it up for surf fishing. Showing me each step and the knots he made. Gave me some pointers on how to work the beach. He could not have been more helpful. I had a bunch more questions but there were other customers waiting and I didn't want to hold them up. But a great experience. read more

I am not at all pleased with the service. At the end of 2018 season 3 months before close I took a reel in for repair needless to say I was told it would be sent out for repairs to " There Guy" whom was supposed to be real good. I waited I called I went in to check on my reel in person the last week before open 2019 got another lie. I followed to the office to check paper work and no luck but low and behold I saw my reel and its claim tag on a desk and pointed it out matching my paperwork then the story turned and nothing had been done not even sent out. I will Never ever go back to this place!!!!! He even threatened me with calling the police when I demanded the reel back. I said call!!! I wish he would have. I bought a $300 phoenix fishing rod from him in November 2018. Not a year later it splintered whil on a fishing trip. When I took it to him for inspection the owner Mark was so rude from the beginning and ended up saying it's not his stores problem and I need to file a claim directly through Phoenix myself. Never have I had a store owner be so rude. I've spent a lot in that store and I expect better customer service. I'm telling everybody I know what crap service I got there today. My advice is don't buy anything from that store because if it ends up breaking they won't honor the lifetime warranty!! read more

I have not bee able to find the gear I need at Walmart, Dick's, or Big 5 that I need for salt water fishing on the central coast. This place seems nice at first but customer service is terrible. I had to drive 35 miles there and back because mark messed up my order. There was no apology for his mistake. He wasted so much of my time, money on fishing products and gas. When I had a problem with the reel it was terrible. I didn't even want to go back to pick it up. He was so rude and angry when I was talking to him. Never have I had such terrible customer service. On top of that they didn't even address any of the problems and charged $25 for shipping. Terrible shop. They only want to sell and do not care about what comes after. I'm not going back here and I would not recommend this place to anyone. Tackle and line is old and will fail. Same as buying used. Return policy is in store credit only and only if they feel like it. I tried to return a new reel in the box never used can't be returned even for store credit. Don't go to this place, it's junk and junk business practice. read more

Store is dirty, dingy, if there is more than one customer in there they cant handle it. A lot of OLD stock and not a lot of the stuff you would really need. Seem to be only interested in sell HIGH dollar fishing equipment and not the terminal tackle. They look right at you and not acknowledge that you are there. At one time this was a very good place to get tackle, but it has gone downhill and they don't seem to care. read more
