The set lunch had a really nice mushroom starter and I had some decent fish cakes as well. Good range of ales, varied and comfortable seating. A great pick if you are in Hayfield. Keep an eye out because they seem to have a lot of events going on, foodie and otherwise.

Not massively too sure where we were doing, we headed up through Disley and then ended up in New Mills and then though "my God, it's lunch time - we need to find somewhere fast!" Luckily our handy Yelp app recommended the Pack Horse 5 mins drive up the road and a quick zoom up past lovely countryside led us to this little gem. Seating in the bar for around 40 (where you can eat), plus there's a more formal dining room attached, it was super popular with us nabbing the last table. The food selection is all about good proper pub food with around 10 daily specials. If the truth be honest I'd probably give the food around 3.5 as the fish and chips and homemade burger with chips we had was tasty but not the best we've ever had at a country pub. We did enjoy it though. I imagine this is great for a few pints at night (although you'd need a designated driver as it's up a hill and in the middle of nowhere) - and they had some pretty interesting beers on tap too. We'd pop in for food if nearby but there's probably better places within driving range that we'd likely venture to on a day out. Great views from here too! When the large bill came we felt it didn't quite have the wow factor we'd expect at that price point. I think I'd try again but not on a Sunday. At the moment, the much less lauded Hare & Hounds in Mill Brow I think is doing at least as good a job at a slightly lower price.

The traditional open fire type pub had been transformed with a very modern and quirky decor, which in my opinion worked. Very relaxed and friendly atmosphere, with attentive (but not overly so) staff. I opted for the chicken liver terrine and marmalade jelly which was well thought out and tasty. I followed this with the roast beef and Yorkshire pudding (had to be done really!). The meat was cooked well and was accompanied by a wide variety of well cooked vegetables. Home-made onion gravy and fiery horseradish cream set it off nicely. Finished the meal off with STP, which was lovely and came with very nice ice cream. My companion opted for the deep-fried mushrooms, which they thought were nice and came with a spicy sweet sauce that complimented it well. Their main of beef hot pot and dumplings was well received (maybe a little too piping hot to eat) but the dumplings were a bit dry, making them hard to eat. They finished their meal with Eton mess which was very nice and came with a variety of fresh fruits. The only small gripe was that the dishes felt a little over worked with garnishes and "food art", as if they were trying a bit too hard to impress, when the food did the talking very nicely for them without it, in my opinion. All in all very nice food and at 55 GBP including 2 drinks was very reasonably priced. Would definitely recommend and will be re-visiting again.
