Good but could be better. I expected a greater variety that included Thai Chicken. Not that I was displeased with the beef and mushroom I enjoyed. The mushy peas taste reconstituted. read more

We visited their stall last night at the Eat Street Markets in Hamilton and purchased food from…read morethem, and whilst we were waiting for our order to be to made I witnessed a pair of tongs fall off the cooking station bench and the female cook pick them up and put them back on the bench, and then proceed to use them. She did not clean them or swap them out. As I saw the whole thing happen, I said to the female cook "excuse me but did you just drop those tongs on the floor and are now touching the food with them?" She replied with a scrunched up face "what?" I stated "I just saw those tongs fall on the floor and you pick them up and not wash them or swap them out" Then she muttered something to the male cook in a different language and he approached me a said "what's the problem" I re stated what I had already said to her, and he replied "no she didn't." I said "yes she did I saw the whole thing" to which again he said "no she didn't" until he turned to the female cook and said "did you drop those tongs?" And she said "kind of". I then said to the make cook "excuse me but you own me an apology as she did and I want our order re made with clean tongs." They then re made the food, only gave us 6 donuts when we paid for 7, I asked for no cream on the donuts and the female cook put cream on them then when I remind her she gave me attitude and just SCRAPPED IT OFF! I am so disappointed with the level of cleanliness and professionalism and won't be going back there again.

When I first heard about Doughnut Time they had just opened their shop in the Valley. It was…read moredefinitely on my 'to try' list but I never really bothered to make the trek. But then this shop in Clayfield opened and I caved to the crazy donut hype and visited. Doughnut Time has a great shop front, bright green and a big neon sign, definitely a good way to draw people in. Old fashioned menu board and a window to see the doughnuts in all their gluten-y glory. My plan was to just pick 1 to try but my impulse purchasing took over and I bought 2. 'Splice' and 'Maple Bacon' were the two I chose to try. The Splice was nice, however the 'splice' flavour wasn't overly strong and it could probably pass for a standard glazed. The Maple Bacon was nice also and had a much stronger flavour, due to the bacon pieces on the top. Overall I enjoyed the donuts but at $6 a pop there's not really any chance of me heading back any time soon. My childhood memories (and regularly repeated now in adulthood) of a cheap cinnamon donut mean I just don't get all the fuss over these fancy donuts. Trying not to be a fuddy-duddy about it, and for a bit of fun it's worth having a bit of a look but I'm not convinced.
I wanted to love you, Doughnut Time. I really really did…read more I'm the annoying girl cropping up in all of the new doughnut and cronut and brownie shop Facebook pages begging for gluten free versions of your wares. I campaign hard and strong for Brisbane's glutard population and I was so happy to hear that Doughnut Time was ahead of the pack and already offering a gluten free version of their deliciously over-the-top desserts. While I wasn't enamored by the 'hole-in-the-wall' setup, the mint green is cute and the big doughnut is sure to make everyone smile, especially when it's lit up at night. I can't be alone in wishing for a sit-down area at which to enjoy doughnuts and milkshakes with my pals and or little people? Also the location isn't super convenient, but from little things big things grow, right? I asked at the counter about the gf options. Unfortunately at this point in time we're limited to the one flavour, one half white and the other half milk chocolate. OK, I thought. We all have to start somewhere.. And usually the simplest ideas are the best (ie: the plain gf cinnamon doughnuts at the Powerhouse markets). I was happy to put aside the tim-tams and chomp bars and settle for a quiet (in comparison) doughnut experience. I sat in my car and took my first bite. My first thought was - hm, this feels greasy. And wet. Cold and wet and greasy in my mouth. And chewy. These weren't good thoughts. Doughnuts (even gf ones) are usually fluffy and light and spongey and slightly crunchy on the outside -- or at least that's been my experience, especially at the aforementioned markets. These alas, are not. I took a photo of the inside of my doughnut with massive holes permeating like Swiss cheese. I'm not sure if it was undercooked or maybe they're still perfecting the dough? Either way, I won't be going back for a 6-pack anytime soon. Gluten eaters don't take my word for it!!! I have no idea what the 'regular' style doughnuts are like, but based on the presentation they look exceptionally fun and deliciously outrageous.
The delectable menu!
Cute packaging.

I was craving their chocolate flourless raspberry hazelnut cake today which prompted me to come back and write this review, and see if they have any locations in the US :D All the desserts are absolutely gorgeous and delicate with rich flavor and texture. The lemon tart was lovely too. When I return to Brisbane I certainly will stop here again!

I dare you to walk in and not purchase anything from their range of tarts, cronuts, donuts, condiments, danishes or mini bar cakes. I drove that 20 mins I mentioned to try one of their much talked about cronuts. I'd had my heart set on the raspberry one (I'll do anything for raspberry) but alas had to settle for plain cinnamon and a salted caramel option. There was nothing wrong with the quality of the cronut - it was flaky and fluffy in equal parts. I just don't think this food trend is for me. Still, the figures don't lie and these babies are literally walking out the door for Flour & Chocolate. I'm yet to sample their equally famous donuts (give a girl time!) but their mini bar cakes always go down a treat for a simple morning tea when the parents visit or you just want to eat a small slice of heaven without the guilt of a whole cake still staring back at you.
