Their website featured so many elegant, fun and classic cakes - we knew they would be a great fit for us. Shortly after contacting Sugar Creations, the owner, Rebecca Sutterby met us one afternoon to go over our cake design ideas and color scheme. Soon after emailed us a drawing of the proposed cake. It was everything we wanted - down to the two monkeys and a palm tree. Yep - not traditional, but spot on! The cake was delivered and we were ecstatic - there were so many flavors to choose from, but keeping with our unconventional theme - we went with Lemon, Smores and German Chocolate. It was so great that we almost couldn't wait the full year to enjoy the one tradition of eating the top layer. *** We were not shocked to learn (after booking) that Rebecca has been featured on the Food Network and has won cake decorating challenges. It all tasted the same. Too loose consistency. The "butter cream" tasted like it was made of Crisco. It was terrible. Chocolate frosting was terrible and their "fillings" weren't that. It was the same terrible "butter cream". The cake was way too dry. Couldn't even cut it without it falling apart into a massive pile of crumbs. It was hard to get down. The vanilla tasted like an overly eggy, super cheap box mix. Fake vanilla flavor. It was the worse tasting vanilla cake I have ever tasted. Even my dad hated it and he loves cake. It was so bad I wanted to teach them how to make a cake. Give them some tips and pointers. I mean. How hard is it to go on Pinterest and watch YouTube videos!?! Then maybe they will learn how to do a cake. The chocolate cake was a basic meh cake. The spiced cake was ok. But again the crumb was terrible. It was like eating sand. The only saving Grace was the pumpkin cake. It was underbaked, but it was at least edible and enjoyable.... Until we paired with the frosting. And then it was ruined. I was in tears at the thought of this bakery being our only option for our wedding. We already wasted $25 for a tasting. Luckily we pushed back the wedding now have proper time to look for a bakery who does cakes from scratch and not from boxer mix.
