Their prices are comparable to larger chain health food stores. I was super thirsty, so popped in for some kombucha. They only had 2 brands in their fridge: Pur Kombucha in a bottle, with 2 flavours ($4.49 each) and Live Kombucha in a can, with 3-4 flavours ($3.89 each). I opted for the bottle, but would have liked a bit more variety, but I totally understand that their space is small. I was helped by a super friendly staff, who was such a good ambassador for the store I thought he was the owner, but advised me that he was not. He told me about their fruits, vegetables, and fruit AND vegetables baskets that are available for home delivery. The produce is all organic and the price is pretty good ($30 for a small basket, $40 for a medium and $50 for a large). We already get a vegetable home delivery service directly from a local farm, but the fruit option is appealing. The staff member told me his name, but as I'm writing this review it has slipped my mind (sorry), but we chatted and he told me he is a commercial pilot and works at the store part-time. He was very welcoming and knowledgeable and an asset to the store for sure. The store is new as they only opened in December 2021. They are a great addition to the neighbourhood. The employees were very friendly and the inside space reminded me of an old pharmacy. They had plenty of people to help and overall I would recommend stopping here for fresh local grocery items or just to check their inventory out! Every town should have a store like this.

Even though it's small, it has everything you need from meat, to produce, to snacks and a lot of health supplements. And they sell their own pre made vegan meals such as wraps, sushi & salad bowls (better than any salad bowls you'll get at any other grocery). The owner, Gilles, and I messaged and he told me it was no problem if I picked up the following day when I needed. To my utter shock, I recently walked in on said next day to pickup my product and was outraged to be met with incredible anger and verbal abuse. Gilles yelled at me as soon as I entered the store, and soon after threatened to break my jars so I could be taught a lesson claiming I have to pick up another day instead. He was not open to have a calm conversation whatsoever. Without any prior communication in changing the status quo, I was met with such hostility and told I should think, use my brain, and anticipate what he was going to decide next. I couldn't believe how awfully he spoke to me and attacked my person. A friend of mine also noted rising hostility with her and stopped going. Without any prior warning as to what changed. I will never go back and I would not recommend this place to anyone. No one deserves to be spoken to in this manner. Truly disappointed that a business owner would treat his customers this way.

Every time I've gone the fruits & vegetables section was almost questionable . They didn't look fresh, the tempatture in the store is to high for these produce I find which makes them all "mooshie" . They don't last very long if you do buy them , maybe a day or 2 before starting to rot . Most sale items are either expired or expiring within a day. I went because it's quiet and they had a specific item that other health stores don't carry. Second of all what started with a good experience ended up in a very bad one. I noticed after my last visit that they had charged extra item on my bill. A 20$ item to be exact!!! ! I didn't notice on the moment since I had bought other things from the "pharmacy" section and didn't "click" why my bill was higher than expected. My mistake was to not check my bill on site, i felt bad for holding up the line . The cashier was alone and she had about 6 other customers behind me. So I rushed ou When I noticed , I went back to advise them of their error and the cashier told me it was highly impossible that she had made a mistake because the item was in the middle of my bill. I tried to explain to her that the lady behind me had the item that was scanned on my bill. She had left it on the counter while she went to get something else in the store and when the cashier put her scanner down it probably scanned the item by accident ( cause store scanners do that if you leave the barcode in front of the red light it scans by itself ( I've worked in many store and this has happened to me by mistake)) . She refused to believe me, told me the manager would check the cameras and call me within a day or two. Never received a call back from the manager . I had to call back numerous times, they never answer the phone . Only once did I get to speak to the same cashier and she said I'll remind the manager and I'll call you back. It's going on two weeks of me calling and never getting an answer . I don't live next door so it's hard for me to go all the way to the stores, cause trust me I would be there everyday until they admit their error. Even if they don't admit it , atleast CALL YOUR CUSTOMER BACK ! It's the least they could of done. Because now it ends with me having a really bad experience with this store because they don't care about their customers. CHECK YOUR BILLS ON SITE , don't care about keeping up the line if it's going to save you your well earned money ! Now the store has charged 2 customers for 1 item and I find that very unfair ! They should be able to see in the inventory that they sold one more than what they actually were holding in store.

The Long Version: I've been a fan of Healthy Planet since they opened their first Ottawa location at Trainyards. They subsequently opened a second location in the Kanata Centrum and now this location on Merivale is their third in Ottawa. It's the space that used to be a Swiss Chalet but stood vacant for quite some time. They just had their grand opening late November 2024. Healthy Planet is a health food store. They sell lots of organic foods and environmentally friendly cleaners, skincare, cosmetics, etc. They also have a vast selection of protein powders and supplements. Their prices are generally lower than other Health Food stores in Ottawa such as Kardish and Natural Food Pantry. The space is large, brightly lit and well organized. In terms of cosmetics and skincare products, their selection is greater than the location at Trainyards. Otherwise, I'd say the selection is the same. Customer service was good in that while I was wondering around, one of the employees asked me if I needed help finding something, which I didn't, so they went back to what they were doing. One thing that could have been improved is that the cash register that cashed me out had a defective point-of-sale machine, or defective wires or something because it froze during my transaction and I had to stand around and wait. The cashier said that it wasn't the first time it happened, it happened earlier that day. Other registers were fine, he said it was only his register. There were some registers that were not being used. Management should have shut down that register, moved the cashier to another register and fixed the problem. Anyway, I went shortly after their first day of opening, so I guess I'll give them time to iron out the wrinkles. Lots of free parking in the shared plaza parking lot. (216)
