Hungry Ninja - So much ramen/instant noodles. Like almost an entire aisle!

What a cool store that I never knew existed! Hungry Ninja sells primarily imported snacks from Asia…read moresuch as chips, candies, and ramen, but they also sell Asian groceries, such as sauces, oils, vinegars, miso, kimchi and the sorts. They have the largest selection of exotic KitKats I've seen here in Ottawa. They sell bags for $6.99, which depending on the flavour have 9-14 mini bars. They also sell individual bars for $0.99 each. So you can try one before committing to an entire bag. They also have a large selection of Kracie Popin' Cooking' DIY candy kits! They are $5.99-$6.99 which is about half the price of places like Sugar Mountain and Sweet Escape Candy Emporium. Sure, you don't get the nostalgic candy store vibe here, but you save $4-$6 per kit. My little nieces are addicted to these kits, so I've scoured the city for these, lol. If you are a mochi-lover, they have a lot of mochi from Japan. Many grocery stores only carry mochi from Taiwan (and specifically the brand Royal Family), so if you want something different, you can check out the variety here. They sell Wong's Ice Cream (from Toronto)! This brand sells Asian-inspired flavours like Vietnamese Coffee, Thai Milk Tea, and Korean Banana Milk. In addition to ice cream, they sell other frozen goods too, like Korean dumplings, croquettes, and Tteokbokki. They have some bubble tea plushies at the back, as well as those happy/sad reversible octopus plushies. Staff pretty much leave you alone to browse. They were efficient at checkout. They are located in a strip mall. There's free parking in the strip mall parking lot. I definitely recommend checking out Hungry Ninja if you like imported Asian snacks :)

Worst customer service ever. I placed multiple orders over the last year, each well over $100. The…read moreshipping alone was 1/3 the cost of the order, however because they have unique items I can't get in my city I had no problem paying for it. When I received the last two orders (both of which were placed in September), I noticed that multiple bags had expiry dates of September and October of the same year. They were meant to be Christmas gifts for the Healthcare Workers at the Hospital where I work, so obviously they would be expired by then. There was no mention of the expiry date online on any of the items I purchased, nor did they mention anything before they sent me the items. The first time I contacted them they told me to send a photo of the items and I would receive a refund. I did this, but then I was told I would have to return the items (and pay for the shipping myself), show them a photo of the receipt and then they would issue me a credit for that amount. ...What??? Why would I have to pay for shipping AGAIN after paying a total of $60 the first time? What kind of business sells edible products that expire within weeks of shipment? This is mind boggling to me. I have told potential customers about my experience and will share this review in the hopes that others don't end up having to go through the same thing when they go to purchase stocking stuffers or Christmas gifts. There is something not right about the fact that this place is selling perishable food items without being transparent about the expiry dates.

Lollies and Scoops just opened in the Manotick Mews today (February 3, 2023) and I had to check…read morethem out after seeing their coming soon sign for so long. Christine, the shop owner, was warm and welcoming right from when we entered her shop. Lollies and Scoops has sooo many different options of treats, both salty and sweet as well as international ones! At the front of the shop, there is a freezer with some frozen treats like Neale's Sweet n' Nice Ice Cream ($3ish, made out of Toronto with yummy Caribbean flavours to choose from). There is also a cold display case housing edible cookie dough (around $5) and some international drinks! Yummm! We picked up a Reese flavoured cookie dough one to try and two drinks. The shop has different categories labelled on the walls to help guide shoppers, such as Old School, International, Salty, etc. There are also fun stuffies, socks, earrings, etc. making this place a whimsical gift shop in addition to being a sweets shop. Christine mentioned that they will be scooping ice cream too come the summertime. I can see that being very successful with the locals as well as tourists. What an awesome addition to the Village of Manotick - looking forward to stopping in here as a regular! Welcome to Lollies and Scoops!

TL;DR/The Short Version: Small Pakistani, Indian and…read moreMediterranean market in Orleans. Good selection of groceries and has samosas and Indian sweets. The Long Version: This small grocery store in Orleans markets itself as a Pakistani, Indian and Mediterranean market. It just opened up in August 2025 where Istanbul Food Mart used to be on Des Epinettes. I didn't even know the Istanbul Food Mart closed, but my brother who lives in the area told me about it. And when I drove by I saw a sign with a picture of samosas and knew I had to check it out, lol. My mom loves samosas, so when I came to visit her (she also lives near the store) I asked her if she wanted to check out the store together, and of course she was game. They did indeed have samosas. The big regular type and the smaller ones made with phyllo pastry. The big ones were vegetarian and $1.50 each. The smaller ones were chicken and $0.75 each. We got a big one and 3 small ones. They also had Indian sweets such as Barfi, Ladoo, Jelebi, Gulab Jamun and Rasgulla, sold by the weight. I don't know all the names but we ended up getting 4 different types to try. You can see my photo. The store has lots of spices, sauces and mixes. As well as imported drinks and snacks (my favourite, lol). The store is neatly organized. There's also an area at the front with tables and chairs where you can sit to enjoy some food or drink. We had the chance to speak with Ali himself and he was very friendly and welcoming. He told us his plans to expand their menu. They will be selling shawarma. He's also thinking of items like samosa chaat. And maybe some fusion poutine like curry poutine, and likely regular poutine too, lol. I think if they expanded their menu, their eat-in area would be a great place to have a snack or meal. It's by the front, which is all windows, so feels like you're in a solarium. The space is very lovely, and surprisingly so since it's inside a grocery store, lol. I liked how Ali was very genuine. When my mom asked if they will be selling big meat samosas, he said she's the third person to ask him that, so they will likely do so in the future. When I asked him if they will be selling baked samosas, he said I'm the only person who's ever asked that and he thinks baked samosas will likely not sell. Lol. I appreciate honesty! And I get it, you need to sell what people will buy ;) (As an aside, my mom said to me, "Jennifer, people want to eat deep-fried delicious things, not baked healthy alternatives like you do!") Fair! Haha. Ali also told us when his sign at the corner advertising samosas was handwritten no one came in looking for samosas but after he got a sign with a picture of samosas on it people started coming in asking for samosas, lol. The samosas were delicious. The big vegetarian one was filled with potatoes, peas and spices. It was spicy! Spicier than most samosas I've had and I loved it. The flavour was also unique. It was more complex and interesting than other samosas I've had. The small samosas were also good, but pale in comparison to the big one in flavour. My parents enjoyed the Indian sweets. They were too sweet for my tastes, but I already knew this because most desserts are too sweet for my liking, lol. The one with a carrot halwa base was the least sweet and the most enjoyable to me. Anyway, I'm really excited to see how this store evolves. I'll be stopping by again with my mom to try their new items. It's in a little plaza so there's free parking in the shared parking lot with other businesses in the plaza. Review #157 (2025)
