After checking in at the office, I headed out to do the work, and this wonderful man immediately came with me offering his help. Less than 10 minutes later, I was on my way home. It was during that small period of time that this giant of a man took away my overwhelming load of concern...and never broke a sweat, never stopped smiling and asked how else he could help. To many, it sounds pretty simple. For me, an 82yo woman, it was a gargantuan gift! His name is Roosevelt, and I want him to know of my gratitude. It is easy to find and convenient to drop off many things you wish to dispose of that you cannot just leave with your weekly trash. They accept large appliances (ie:washers), car batteries, cardboard, household electronics, tires, oil and gasoline, aluminum cans and mixed paper. They have several different containers to dispose of each different item. Simply drive up to the area and then you place it inside. This location is staffed during daytime hours and can assist with directions on what goes where, and answer questions. There is also a swap shop that you can place items for others to take ownership of if you wish to do so. Either way, here is where you can dispose of many old items you cannot just put out in your trash. Easy to find, and easy to use.

We didn't want to take out a contract with a garbage company once we found out we can drive 2 miles from our house and drop off our garbage. They have everything broken down into categories with attendants who are quite helpful. Anything from paint to oil to cardboard to paper, plastic and normal refuse. All have different compactors or cages to place your disposables. If you spend more than 5 minutes there, ask for help and keep moving.

I have always been a firm believer in recycling. When I lived in NY, I was frustrated with their…read morelackadaisical system. When I moved to Horry County, SC, I was so impressed with their system. One load daily is allowed for homeowners. You may bring used cooking oil, batteries, boxes, papers, glass and plastic, yard waste, household trash and large items as well as computers all to be recycled. Huge bins are provided and although kitchen plastics are recycled, they do not recycle garbage bags. Although I do have weekly trash pick up, I do find I take 1-3 trips to this location per week and feel like I'm doing something positive for the environment, for our children and grandchildren's sake. A friendly attendant is there to direct, however they have sometimes assisted me with awkward items. I just wish they would recycle those cheap grocery bags.

They take just about anything as well as household garbage. Besides the usual plastics, glass and cardboard, I can clean out my house (I'm a pack rat) and be conscientious about Mother Nature. Household electronics, batteries, used oil, bulk waste, tires can all be recycled here. They also collect used clothing (not sure who benefits from these donations). The center also has very convenient hours (see photo of times). The workers are helpful and friendly and help locate the proper receptacle to use. They also keep this center neat and clean. Overall, a household chore is made much easier due to this facility.
