I visited Bedouin on a recent visit to Bournemouth. My friend lives locally and we walked down to Charminster Road for a relaxed dinner. With BYO more or less extinct in London, I love the fact that this tradition is still in operation here. It not only keeps cost down but also feels a lot more authentic.
If sitting with the back to the road on a hot day you can almost imagine being in Tunisia. Interiors and decor are rather plain (the space next door has recently been converted into a take-away pizza place) - the real winner here is the food. We started with a selectino of starters (falafel, baba ganoush, houmous and Tunisian salad) which were served with fresh flatbread. The portions were very generous and everything was delicious - this would have been a sufficient dinner in itself. We then shared a portion of couscous with chicken and vegetables - the best I have ever had with the chicken literally falling off the bone and the couscous extra fluffy and well seasoned. Apparently, the turnover of chefs is high - I can only hope this one will be on duty again when I visit next!
I almost forgot: they currently offer a special deal of starter, maincourse, soft drink and mint tea for only £7.95! read more
